Indiana Game of the Year (Part 1)
Footballking16 replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
To be fair, it's no longer a theory when it's been disproven. It's just an opinion without merit. "Football factory" is the key word, the rest is smoke. We all know that football factories come in all shapes and sizes as well as enrollments, socioeconomic demographics, etc. The one constant however is culture. Won't find many successful football programs that don't have longstanding and rich cultures. He's dead serious. He's going to post the same drivel again, someplace, somewhere. -

That's irrelevant to the fact that you have explicitly stated multiple times that non-mega school enrollments with low socioeconomic factors can't compete. There's 3-4 Miami inner-city schools (Northwestern/Central/Washington/Jackson) that all have between 900-1500 students who produces a ton of D1 talent year after year. I don't know enough about every single inner-city public school system in the country to give you more examples but will assure you they're out there. Serious question, do you think a school like Tech is completely devoid of athletes or are they completely devoid of any kind of structure, commitment, leadership within the school or am I just way over my head in thinking that? Do you think that problem exists at King or Cass or any of the Miami city schools I mentioned? If a city like Detroit can produced not only 1, but 2 very, very good inner-city football schools, why can't Indianapolis produce one? Inner-city Detroit just have that many more better football players than inner-city Indianapolis? -

You're thinking of Cass Technical, who also has a great athletic program that is more than twice the size of King. Keep digging. -

You're not listening at all what I'm saying. I'm being a smartass. King is a good football program despite having a low enrollment and vastly high f/r lunch program, something Temptation has said isn't feasible under those conditions. -

I'm being a smartass. According to Temptation, schools who have astronomically high f/r lunch programs can't/aren't expected to be good at athletics unless they have a mega-school enrollment. It's the only thing he's been talking about these last 6 months. An inner-city public school (like Detroit King) blows that narrative out of the water in both instances. That's why I'm being "cute" according to Temptation. -

Lol. It's run by the DPS which is the equivalent to IPS. It's strictly a public school zoned to some of the most impoverished areas of Detroit. The school literally almost closed a handful of years ago. You have no clue what you're talking about. -

Looks like I pulled some old numbers. King is up to 79% free and reduced lunch and only has 1189 students (not 1500). Carmel truly did avoid one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. -
What's status of Carmel's starting QB?

Believe the entire 2H was a running clock and Cathedral only scored one TD. -
Penn at Cathedral

In all honesty it’s likely a culmination of things. 1. 6A has simply caught up. During the 90’s and early 2000’s, you weren’t going to find many teams bigger and stronger than Penn. I’d say most 6A programs today have not only caught up to the Kingsman in their strength and conditioning program, but left them in the dust. Penn just looks like a 4A school when they line up to play. 2. Decline in the city of South Bend. South Bend in generally has just been on the rapid decline. The SB public schools are non-existent, St. Joe is fading fast, it’s not just Penn. 3. Schedule. Think it’s finally caught up. Penn’s decline has been going on several years but hasn’t always appeared that way on the surface. Penn has always benefitted record wise playing predominantly 3A-4A schools and with the inception of a 6th class, Penn has been able to avoid Valpo and Snider in most years in the north half of the bracket. Some pretty bad Penn teams have been able to sleepwalk through 6A north sectionals and regionals. 4. likely a level of apathy. I know posters on GID don’t represent entire fan bases, but you alluded earlier that they are non-existent on here. There used to be a ton. I sense a general level of apathy has set in the Penn football program and not sure it’s ever coming back to the level of excellence some are accustomed to seeing. -

It has nothing to do with enrollment or spike in % of students with f/r lunch. For sure can tell you that. -

Brebeuf has more 1st place votes but ranked 2nd? Hmm -

Didn't watch any of it but saw 58-0. Thing is, IMG would beat just about anybody in the country 58-0 if they really wanted to. Did they call off the dogs early? -
Bishop Sycamore
Footballking16 replied to Whiting89's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Correct but as an aside I don't believe IMG nor Bishop Sycamore are sanctioned by either of their state's high school governing body. -

Forget ESPN not doing their homework, how about this team playing two games 48 hours apart from each other? -
Penn at Cathedral
Footballking16 replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
In a game where Cathedral should be able to name the score, execution and attention to detail will likely be my two biggest takeaways. Offensive line play has been very suspect, if not downright bad, over the culmination of the last two weeks. This should be a nice confidence booster. Can’t have another game with double digit penalties and 100+ yards worth of penalties. That drives me crazy. I have Cathedral winning 49-0. Backups finally get some reps playing the last quarter and a half with a running clock. -

Carmel needed a literal Hail Mary to beat an inner-city Detroit Public with 1500 students where 67% are on a free or reduced lunch program. Center Grove in theory has a punchers chance in this game Friday night. Somebody out there give me Tim Bless’ thoughts on this game? Is it safe to play? As far as the game goes, give me Center Grove and their 2500 students and higher free and reduced lunch program in a big upset. 31-13 Trojans. -

Cathedral vs Brownsburg on Friday!
Footballking16 replied to Dave007's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Penalties have been that way for the last few seasons. Not going to change unless players are held accountable. Defense again played lights out, offense has a way to go. Offensive line needs to get better in a hurry. Playing Penn should help. -
Best Week 2 Games
Footballking16 replied to Lysander's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
King is what IPS had envisioned for Tech. Inner-City school that has athletes littered all over the field. Carmel will be the more disciplined team, and if patient should wear King down with their size. Like Carmel in a nail-biter, but King will put points on the board. -

Biggest Week One Upset
Footballking16 replied to WestfieldRocks's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Have followed European soccer for years. Teams being promoted from lower leagues get a massive revenue boost and can subsequently go out and buy top league level players. Doesn't work that way in Indiana High School football. The same Gibson Southern team that beat Columbus North this year lost by 42 points the year prior. The success factor in of itself follows a model of promotion and regulation.
