  1. Well, you don't seem to be a FAN of Cathedral football. Lots of negativity towards them in fact. Give cred where it's due. This was, by any means, a major upset. Trinity had beaten Carmel and Warren Central, for heaven's sake. Maybe you should come out and watch the Irish play sometime and see for yourself that this is a good football team. And they play under the same rules as every other school in the state of Indiana, just ask Bobby Cox who has very little if any love for Cathedral football. If they were doing anything illegal, Bobby would be all over it.
  2. The Irish are not worrying about New Pal now, they have Brebeuf Jesuit and Center Grove to worry about first. Oh and then there's the sectionals.
  3. Both of Trinity's losses were on grass fields, at least that's what I was told tonight. The Arlington field held up well again. It looks like there will be more high school games there in the future.
  4. Irish 28, Louisville Trinity 7! It was a classic win for the Irish. Trinity was #6 in the USA Today Midwest rankings.
  5. Cathedral, Decatur Central and Plainfield, all Indianapolis area schools, are in the same sectional, Sectional 13, with Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North.
  6. It's almost time to leave for the game! I hope to see a lot of Irish fans tonight!
  7. Actually the Cathedral/Tech 2-0 classic at Bush Stadium happened in 1962. Of course I was there. The place was packed. Irish running back, Bob Romberg, seemed to score the go ahead TD late in the game, but was stopped short. On the first play after the stop, Tech RB John Smith was tackled in the end zone for the safety that won the game. Big crowd, memorable game!
  8. Yep. Cathedral's last "home game" at CYO Field was the 3A state championship game in 1976 against Merrillville. They're startin' early this year with the deja vu!😁
  9. I've been told that Cathedral is kinda "kicking the tires" with playing more home games at Arlington. It has a lot of positives, including the close proximity to Cathedral. If the decision comes to playing most, if not all home games, at Arlington, further updates will take place. Right now it is adequate for a few games. If there had been more inclement weather recently that probably would have changed. Luckily we've been in a dry spell here in Central Indiana.
  10. This is another tough test for the Irish. It should be an interesting night of football.
  11. It shouldn't be that hard to spell Cathedral correctly, after all it's tossed around here a lot.☺️
  12. Some stats from last night: Cathedral 585 total yards, 237 rushing, 348 passing . St. X 348 total yards. Turnovers, Irish 2, Bombers 0, the difference in the game.
  13. The interception at the end of the first half was a huge play! Also a holding penalty on a late game drive hurt the Irish. These are things that can be cleaned up in the future. Yes, the Irish are young but there's enough talent to make a deep run in the playoffs. We have to remember this is high school football and not the NFL. These are young men learning to how to play the game and learning how to win. You really can't fault the effort and effort is big at the high school level, imo. Also the Irish have as much speed as they've had in many years, and speed can help you win a lot of games (just see last week's game). The St. X fans I talked to on the way out of the stadium were really impressed with the Irish. Overall it was a fun night of football, but it'll be good to be playing the rest of the regular season closer to home. We've had enough of Cincinnati!
  14. Outstanding and fun high school football game. A couple of turnovers were the difference in this one. You can't give a great team like St. X short fields because they know what to do with 'em. Disappoint with the Cathedral crowd tonight. I guess some just didn't want to make the trip to Cincinnati a third time. Oh, and no hazmat accidents on I74 tonight! More tomorrow.
  15. The game time has been changed to 7PM. Evidently the Indy Star was not notified of the change.
  16. Cathedral was reclassified during the summer, have been placed in a sectional with Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South and New Pal was moved to the south, where they belonged all the time, and will play the sectional 13 winner in the regional! Now, how's that for a conspiracy?
  17. Cathedral won today's freshman game 19-0 against Bishop Chatard. Again this week no score reported for the JV game.
  18. No off week for Cathedral this week for sure. St. X whipped up on Penn last night and are their normal high powered team. The Irish will have to have a higher level of intensity for the Bombers too. The effort level was not at peak value last night. Chatard had a lot to do with that.
  19. One of the officials forgot to pick up his flag after a late game call and one of the players had to hand it to him. I sure hope they had plenty of Oxi-Clean at home to clean up that laundry.😄
  20. I should add that it was really nice to be back at Arlington tonight! The field held up quite well. I've been told that this could be the start of more games at this venue.
