  1. I believe no one asked for their money back after this one! First off, it was a shame that there was another hazmat situation on I74 this year. This is the second time in the last few years that's happened when the Irish were trying to get to the Queen City to play. We were routed off the Interstate onto Hwy.46 and we arrived just before 7PM after leaving at 4PM. As we were buying our tickets we saw the Irish buses pull up and knew there was going to be a long delay. The Irish played very well despite this situation. No excuses! I'm not sure why every D1 coach in the Country isn't knocking of the door of Shiloh Means. This young many is a football player! I hope last night's efforts will bring him some more offers. It was a shame that either team lost this one. It was a very evenly matched football game. It was back and forth all night. The Irish had a rough time shutting down the Panther QB. I haven't seen the stats yet but he might have gained 200 yards rushing in this one. The Panther TE was a handful too and it was evident that he was their go to guy. The Irish led until Elder kicked a game tying FG with only 39 seconds left. The kicking game really cost the Irish in the first half. All three Elder TD's were on a short field, including one from the six yard line. The other two TD's were from a short punt and an unsuccessful onside kick, which gave Elder the ball at mid field. The Irish offense was in high gear most of the game and it was a shame to lose when Orin Edwards couldn't quite handle a low snap in the OT. The offensive line looked like it could be a work in progress at the beginning of the season, but it has performed well up to now. The defense seemed to be chasing the ball a bit last night instead of containing the edges. It allowed the Elder QB to gain some big yards on keepers. We had a different view of the Elder hospitality. We pulled into a parking lot and were surprised that there was a $10 charge to park. Also there was a handicap parking spot available that this old Irish fan was not allowed to use. I've given up a lot of body parts for my handicap placard! But it was an easy out from where we parked and I arrived home at 1AM on the westside of Indy. That's not too bad actually, after a near 8PM start to the game. It was nice to meet some TGD contributors during the night, none being 1906 of course. It's on to Chatard next week! Anxious to see how Arlington's stadium has been spruced up. I've been told that work has been done to make the field playable. It's be nice to not have to leave town to watch the Irish play. GO IRISH!!!!!!!
  2. Just got home from Cincinnati. This was a good football game! Cathedral only had one turnover all night but it was in OT. Elder won the game 38-31. More later in the morning. It's bed time.
  3. This will be Cathedral's first visit to the Pit since 2002. This could be a very interesting game. Caution to Irish fans, get there early! Parking is limited and the Elder fans will be sitting on the visitor's side quite early so it's best to get there to claim a seat very early.
  4. IMO, he's just trolling and trying to get a reaction from us to gain attention. It's really kinda sad.
  5. He should just be ignored. It's my opinion that he's just trying to gain some attention.
  6. I agree, but then I'm an old fan boy! The attitude alone was so much better than it's been for a few years now. I know the depth isn't there but if they stay relatively healthy they'll have a very good year.
  7. I respectfully disagree that it's a "chore" to change. I don't believe most clock operators, and I know some, would have any problem with going back and forth. Just my opinion of course. Also increasing the threshold to 36 or 42 points is better than the current 35 points. A few years back, Cathedral had a 42-0 halftime lead at Whiteland in the Playoffs. Cathedral pulled the starters and Whiteland scored 28 points in about 5 minutes of the third quarter and Coach Streiff had to put the starters back in. Anything can happen.
  8. BTW, the Cathedral freshmen lost to Brownsburg 8-7 yesterday ending their 3+ years of being unbeaten.
  9. Cincinnati version: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/2019/08/31/naumanns-reign-moeller-starts-turnover-filled-28-0-loss-cathedral/2182524001/
  10. And a lot of young players playing keep roles. If they can stay healthy, this is going to be a fun season for the Irish and their fans.
  11. Except for the 4 Irish turnovers, it was a very good night for the Irish. Total yards, 275 for Cathedral, 104 for Moeller. First downs 13-5 in favor of the Irish. Orin Edwards threw for 217 yards on 20-33, but threw 3 ints. Only 4 penalties for 20 yards for the Irish. On a personal note, it was nice of Moeller to turn down sitting on the St. X side, home side. So we sat on the "home" side and it is an amazing view. St. X is one of the few football fields without a running track and that puts you right behind the bench. It's a great venue for high school football not matter which side you're on. Next week isn't any easier when Cathedral visits Cincinnati Elder at the Pit.
  12. Outstanding effort, and I emphasize effort, by the Irish. Moeller turned the ball over a school record 8 times in this game. It was the first time they had been shut out since 2006. More later after Church.
  13. Cathedral only has one losing season since 1967 (3-7 in 2003).
  14. My old gang with be there tomorrow night! It's really strange not playing on Friday night.
  15. Cathedral JV 24, Noblesville JV 7 I'm unable to find the freshman score. I will post it when I'm advised of the score. Of course if anyone knows the score please post it here.
  16. A couple of observations from last night. First off Noblesville's punter was outstanding! 7 punts for a 50.3 average! He flipped the field more than once. Secondly, I had never seen a game at Noblesville in all my years of watching Cathedral football, and I was impressed with the facility and the hospitality of everyone there. And lastly, I saw something last night for the first time. In my 65 years of Cathedral football, I had not seen a female official until last night. Hats off to her for a fine job, in fact the entire crew was very acceptable.
  17. St. X is a school of approx. 1600 young men. It has a proud tradition and it's really a neat place to play. My advice to fans, get there early and avoid a long walk from a remote parking area.
