  1. It was a gift from God for the Irish tonight. Except for a about 3 minutes of the 2nd half, Chatard seemed to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. It took a couple of long plays from the Irish to pull this one out. IMO, Bishop Chatard solidified their place as the #1 team in 3A. They played a very good Irish team toe to toe BTW, Cathedral won the game 31-21. The officiating in the game was, well strange! That's the only word that comes to mind. They turned this game into a 3 hour affair with they multiple conferences and a flag on just about every other play. I'm not sure that either team had an advantage, although Trojan fans may disagree. The game is being replayed on Channel 40 now and they are just starting the 2nd half.
  2. That doesn't look too bad. It looks better than the last time the Irish played there, that's for sure.
  3. I'm not saying that Chatard didn't have a great game last year but Cathedral showed less spunk than in any game all of last season, imho. Chatard took the Irish to the woodshed in every way possible.
  4. It's gameday and this one is always special. I'm really tired of the trip to Cincinnati too. We get to make that trip again next week but first things first. One thing I'm sure of, the Irish players will give a better effort this year. You can count on that!
  5. You know I'll be there for the tailgate! It was good to see locals, Terry and Nick, have a big week.. Both are very deserving!
  6. A whole day without any conversation about this game? That's unusual. Can't wait to see what has been done to Arlington's field!
  7. That's possible it went OOB on the one, but from our vantage point it appeared to hit the pylon straight on, but we were across the field from the play. Anyway, the short punt gave Elder the ball at the 6 and a pretty easy score.
  8. I knew the score was 28-27. I just must've had fat fingers when posting.
  9. Elder won the freshman game yesterday 28-17. Cathedral went for two late in the game and were unsuccessful. I have no information on the JV game. If anyone has the score please pass that along.
  10. This one is scheduled to be played at Arlington and will bring back a lot of memories, some good some not so good, to both sides. It should be a good one!
  11. It was nice to meet you Friday night! Hope to see you at the tailgate this upcoming Friday.
  12. The game next week against Bishop Chatard will also be played at Arlington. I was told by a member of the Athletic Staff that work has been ongoing there for quite awhile and it will be playable next week.
  13. Stats are quite even: https://twitter.com/CathedralFBall/status/1170160098569871360/photo/1
  14. There's just no room for a tailgate the way the Irish do it . There's barely enough room to park cars.
  15. I didn't think you'd understand. Have a good day. (if you can understand that)
  16. Actually the Irish fans tailgated with the Elder fans. LaRosa pizza and Skyline chili.
  17. The officials missed this call in Cincinnati last night. The ball knocked over the pylon and went into the end zone, and the ball was placed on the one yard line. It eventually led to a score for Elder. I thought the national rule was the 10 yard line. I really liked playing from the 20 in OT much better last night. Thanks for this information!
  18. That answers my questioning of why Avon needed to play their starters for most of the scrimmage. Thanks! I'm surprised you didn't bring your train whistle to Tech.😁 Also Cathedral played "up" probably before you were born in the 1970's, playing in the final game in 1973 and 1976.
  19. Two questions: If a punt hits the pylon and goes into the end zone, is that a touchback or out of bounds at the one? Also, last night's OT possessions, in Ohio, started at the 20 yard line instead of the 10 yard line. Is this an Ohio rule or a national rule?
  20. That's what makes high school football so much fun, nothing is guaranteed. You've got to put it on the line every week in the playoffs.
  21. The Irish coach, Bill Peebles, has had a year to work with the team. This in my opinion is the biggest difference. Also the attitude seems to be more "old school" than it was in the last couple of years. The offense is a lot more sophisticated and the defense seems to be more intense. Also the Irish are playing a lot of sophomores and juniors this season, and they seem to be able to help out quite well. Should be a good one next week! I can't wait to see Arlington once more.
  22. The Cathedral/Avon scrimmage was very interesting. I know it was just a scrimmage but Avon played their first teamers a whole lot more than Cathedral and the Irish seemed to match up well. But all that's just conjecture. Cathedral only needs to stay healthy and get better against some outstanding competition in the regular season. A couple more thoughts about last night at Elder. They need to update their lighting. There were a lot of dark spots. Also it would be nice if they put some wood or aluminum on the concrete that we sat on last night. I bet that concrete gets really cold late in he season. Also $10 to park is out of line for a high school sporting event, imo. The lot we parked in was not that close either. Other than that it was a great atmosphere.
  23. AMEN! I actually met his dad at the LA Fitness in Eagle Highlands a few months back. A very fine man!
