  1. I doubt they will since Coach Peebles is very familiar with them from Coaching at Lawrence Central and his comments on broadcasts about both Lawrence schools being athletic and talented. Even without overlooking them Lawrence North will present some difficult challenges with their WR's vs Cathedral's DB's. Should be a very good game and honestly could be a coin flip game.
  2. Chatard vs Cathedral is just different. It is a rivalry game that anything can happen no matter which one looks more dominant. There has been about everything happen in games between the Trojans and Irish. Even the game itself was wild between momentum shifts, the lights going out at Arlington, the move to play Saturday at Chatard. Even the transitive property comparison has never worked. Chatard vs Roncalli @ Chatard 14-7 (Chatard) Chatard vs Cathedral (1/2 @ Arlington 1/2 @ Chatard) 24-21 (Chatard) Cathedral vs Roncalli @ Roncalli 42-0 (Cathedral) Chatard is very good and they aren't flashy. They very well could be 3A State Champions, but they aren't so dominant that no other team has a shot. It won't be easy for any team in 3A to beat them, but it is also not a given.
  3. I only used sagarin as a base point. Although sagarin is at about the best it can be I prefer to look at Calpreps because of the total ignore of Out of State opponents by sagarin (which is why Center Grove and Ben Davis' strength of schedule is that much lower than Brownsburg and HSE's). There are strong teams in 5A but there is very little gap between the Top 3 in 5A compared to the Top 3 in 4A. I personally think had the classes been split to have 32 in 6A and 32 in 1A with 64 in 2A-5A it would have been MUCH MUCH better, but that is just me. 5A tends to be very watered down in its current state (doesn't mean the top teams aren't good).
  4. Like F.W. Snider not much East Central can do they have to play their conference (which is very week). Sagarin does not take Out of State Opponents into their equation, so basically the computation in sagarin only has them for 7 opponents (because out of 9 games they will have only played 7 Indiana opponents). Their non-conference schedule though consists of 6-2 Harrison (OH) (a Ohio D-II team that is their rival as the two towns are pretty much next to each other, Cincinnati Moeller (OH), and Roncalli (who is not as strong as they have been the last 2 years). Make no mistake however even though East Central's conference is weak they are not. East Central is very good and will likely be the favorite for 4A but also could be playing for State Championship in 5A. Sagarin is about as good as it is going to get (still doesn't account for OOS opponents) Calpreps however does account for OOS Opponents. Notice where East Central sits out of all teams in Indiana. http://calpreps.com/2023/ratings/Indiana_all.htm
  5. No offense. I would take the top 20 of 4A any day of the week vs the bottom 20 of 5A. I also think the Top 3 in 4A (East Central, Ev. Reitz, New Palestine) would do very well against the Top 3 in 5A (Bloomington South, Valpo, F.W. Snider).
  6. Maybe if we lobby hard enough after Week 9 we can get them ranked in 1A and receiving votes in both 2A and 3A!!
  7. Sectional pairings are today. I would bet we will see right out of the gate first round at least 2 or 3 of the following. In 6A Sectional 3: Fishers vs HSE Sectional 4: Carmel vs Westfield Sectional 5: Ben Davis vs Brownsburg Sectional 6 Cathedral vs Lawrence North
  8. Not really surprising to me. Noblesville has had some rather close games that they haven't won. If Coach Sharpe's offense is clicking it can really chew up clock and limit possessions for the other team and less scoring. Judging from the box score (and knowing it was windy leading to less passing) the game likely went quick and possession were limited.
  9. It was started 2 weeks ago because it was announced at that time the game was being moved from Arlington to Butler and @PHJIrish was informing of the change right after it was announced.
  10. Probably not, but Coach Peebles does what he thinks is right. When it hit 35 and running clock he emptied the bench. Roncalli lost a lot from last year and starting a lot of young fellas (I think they had 4 Soph's starting on Offense). They will take their lumps and get better.
  11. No at the time up until 1953 there was Cathedral (all boys located downtown Indianapolis), Sacred Heart (later named Kennedy merged with Bishop Chartrand to form Roncalli), and Latin school. You had girls High School too Ladywood (ran by Sisters of Providence) which is where Cathedral sits today, Ladywood and Cathedral were combined to make Cathedral Co-Ed. Cathedral was Operated by Brothers of Holy Cross but full control (no longer financially supported by the Archdiocese happened in 1964 and the brothers closed the doors in 1973 due to financial reasons declining enrollment and shifting populations). In 1953 Scecina Memorial was built, Bishop Chatard in 1961, Bishop Chartrand 1962, and Cardinal Ritter in 1964. These schools were built to ease the overcrowding at Cathedral and Sacred Heart. Parents and Alumni saved Cathedral by forming a non-profit organization to operate the school becoming a Private Catholic school. They have recently rekindled with the Brothers of Holy Cross.
  12. Actually Cathedral was one of the original "Deanery" schools from 1918-1964 when the diocese turned over control to the Brothers of Holy Cross making them independent due to opening Scecina, Bishop Chartrand (Now merged with Sacred Heart/Kennedy to form Roncalli), Bishop Chatard, and Cardinal Ritter . After the Brothers closed the doors in 1972 alumni saved the school moved it and made it a Private Catholic school. Honestly "any" gentleman's agreement would and should never happen (especially with the close proximity of Cathedral and Chatard). There are legacy students and family names crawling the Cathedral hallways from every Deanery elementary school dating back to 1918 (even Southside). It wouldn't behoove Cathedral to do so due to that and the fact it would struggle to keep its doors open (even if the other Deanery High Schools don't like that). Regardless the archdiocese elementary schools have provided the large majority of students at Cathedral for 105 years. In all honesty with the explanation there is 2 sides to the story and the truth most likely lies in the middle and there is hyperbole and embellishment from both sides (really only those inside the meetings know the truth). In all honesty "the gentlemans" agreement as it has been called in here would have been detrimental to Cathedral staying open (unlike Brebeuf which opened in 1962 and doesn't have as long of a storied presence within the Archdiocese schools).
  13. There is a trophy for Cathedral vs Bishop Chatard (Northside K of C traveling trophy) and Cathedral vs Roncalli (K of C Victory Bell). I would think there is one for Bishop Chatard vs Roncalli too.
  14. The only thing that does and should matter to the Coaches and the players is etching another year on the K of C Victory Bell. Cathedral leads the series 22-12 overall and has won the last 12 meetings between the two, but the bell only exchanges during regular season match-ups. Cathedral holds the bell currently after a 2010 regular season game won by the Irish 41-10.
  15. That almost guaranteed won't happen. 35 points gets to a running clock, and Coach Peebles has always been one to not run up scores. When he builds a lead to a running clock he usually substitutes getting a lot of players playing time and experience. If the game were to hit 35 points expect a quick 2nd half with a lot of players hitting the field regardless of who they are playing.
  16. Don't worry there are 3 more hairs in that grilled cheese for 0-7 Avon!
  17. Well wacky tobacky isn't legal in Indiana, so 4 individuals have to be making trips to Illinois and Michigan quite regularly!
  18. I believe they do have the 40 second clock, that being said many Ohio schools do not have on field play clocks. The QB has to confirm the time with the Referee.
  19. A major factor will be where this game is played. If at East Central EC will likely win, if at the Reitz Bowl could be a totally different story.
  20. I am sure Cathedral will make space on the Home Side for CG fans. They have done that at U of I in the past.
  21. Loved watching Coach Dilley and Coach L teams. As well as Coach Kennedy at Lowell and Coach Scifres at Roncalli. We are going to run the ball at you come stop it. Showing how many different ways you can run Off Tackle or Power Toss.
  22. They beat Cathedral while having their starting QB who was injured in the Guerin game. Even if they play with QB2 I think Chatard wins this one, but there is no denying QB1 makes Chatard a better overall team with both his arm and legs.
