Playoff Roster Size Limit Logic
hhpatriot04 replied to FCGriz's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
And rings. -
With a Goldsberry and Winchell likely back on the roster! That being said, no doubt that Heritage Hills has a tall task ahead of them tonight playing the best team in the state with probably the best QB and top receivers. I just hope HH can keep it close, take it one play at a time, and be as opportunistic as possible with one of the potentially greatest 3A teams to come out of southern Indiana. Best of luck and Patriot Pride!

Isn't this pretty standard across Indiana? Townships have determined school attendance, even in some cases crossing county lines? I guess the bigger cities are starting to see public services merge -- fire departments, police/sheriff departments, other forms of governance. I'm generally not a big fan of redundant systems, but also like to see governance and services as accountable as possible. Idk. Big decisions.

A guy at my dorm at IU was from SB Riley. He said he played football. Got absolutely laid out by a current HS assistant coach (former all-state LB teammate of mine) in the DiNardo days in a 7-on-7 tackle game. He responded by ripping a fire extinguisher out of a dorm hallway while intoxicated and trying to assault various floormates... Judging by collegiate social media accounts, that was a foreshadowing of the current destruction of property craze. The guys from Penn were much more personable. That is my experience with and knowledge of South Bend football. Oh, I guess Gehrig Dieter has done the city pretty well after setting an NCAA record for most transfers.

ETA: Where is just a straight list of enrollment and classification for football for the current cycle? The IHSAA used to release the enrollment numbers, along w/1-64 in each class and an asterisk on success/relegation teams. All I can find are these - https://www.ihsaa.org/Schools/Enrollments-Classifications - which doesn't include the current cycle by enrollment.

Actually something like: 1A: # of teams left 2A: 96 teams 3A: 96 teams 4A: 24 teams w/4 sectionals of 6 teams, no regional round) - any fair success factor changes to increase the competition in the largest class would be welcomed. Without changing the success factor too much, instead of looking at the previous two years, you look at the previous four years and throw out the season with the most points and the least points to get a median average, which IMO is a much better measure of a program than the current system...

32-64-64-64-64-32 (actually fewer) makes tremendously more statistical sense. The enrollment lines would also be farther apart, so teams would naturally stay in a class longer (not considering success points).

It's the Indy sprawl -- transfers or just being affluent enough to move into the school district has its advantages... Who's that Dakich guy and where does he live? 25 years ago, Zionsville had an enrollment of 850. Frankly, it's impressive that they and schools like Westfield have been able to grow and maintain quality academic and extracurricular activities.

You Make the Call

Is there not an exception for illegal participation? I believe there is also some lenancy in interpretation if say a coach or player came onto the field to blatantly affect the outcome of the game... -
Laying would be holding...offensive or defensive. A player on either side must disengage. It was a common strategy for linebackers to clog holes by laying on a blocking RB/FB.

Maybe they'll get a trophy!

GS might cover 5 TDs if HH doesn't pass, continues with turnovers, and misses coverages... Second meeting is historically closer in recent years. Still, you have to strap it up and play...
-
In-state only games... SoS is fairly easy to compute... It's usually something like 0.5*(Win pct of opponents) + 0.5*(Win pct of opponents' opponents)... The weights can vary from ranking to ranking.
-
Closed conference, no way to compute that relative to the connected data...

Raise it with Coach Goebel. Please record it and post a link.

AK Steel is definitely not in North Spencer School Corporation. It does supply a lot of treated metal to Toyota though. There have been a few contributions to GS from HH though in football and elsewhere. Do you think GS will accumulate enough success factor points to be in 4A, and where will that leave Memorial? It could be a very interesting alignment forthcoming depending on those programs and Mater Dei. It's possible that the Titans will put a running clock on every team from here on out.
-
After a hiccup in late January/early February, Toyota's stock price is flirting with an all-time high!

Let's hope HH can show up healthy, leave healthy, and continue to improve every week. It will be such an honor to see a DI QB and other collegiate recruits performing at the highest level of 3A football and making their teammates better. As fans of football, HH should soak up the environment and let the chips fall where the Almighty wants them to.

Just curious what is trending now across the state. With few exceptions (New Palestine's run), it seems that teams are opening the playbook to compete at the highest levels (Center Grove). Obviously, this isn't always an option if you don't have the personnel. What do you see your team running as their base set?
-
What happened to the vaunted Mater Dei offenses of yesteryear... An accurate QB, 4 WRs who just run precision routes, an undersized line that punches above its weight and a RB who would keep your defense in check. Recently, Mater Dei seems to have trouble scoring and does some un-MD like things like TOs. Just a down cycle?

Probably much bigger issues in these boys' lives. Hopefully this is a wake-up and... Yeah. Anyone working at Bosse, I don't envy. I couldn't do it.

From very reliable sources, it will be a safe environment. 😏 Also I wouldn't want to be a fugitive in Spencer County... ISP Detective on the HH coaching staff, and I'm sure this fugitive would be surprised to know what locals think of the Second Amendment, even in "gun free zones..." Another ISP officer's property basically borders HHHS... Vikings and Patriots will be safe and the winner will be the one which commits the fewest turnovers and penalties. Ironically, we played the Friday after Tuesday, September 11, after much debate protected by the corn rows!
