  1. I'm still not clear if a ball that hits a receiving team player past 10 yards is considered "grounded" (because the player is grounded) or "airborne" because the ball has not yet itself touched the ground...
  2. As a strategy, did it appear that the kicking team would've had time to field the ball if it wasn't airborne? Also, what defines airborne? If a kick hits a receiving field player in the helmet (I've seen it on a line-drive kick that hit the first row of blockers), is the ball still considered to be airborne or must it first strike the ground to have a legal touch by the kicking team. Also, assuming that player is at least 10 yards from the kick, can the kicking team legally touch the ball before it hits the ground, but has not gone 10 yards (picturing a pin ball that bounces off a player's helmet and back toward the kicking team).
  3. Also worth noting that he's a former football head coach at neighboring Bosse.
  4. After Week 5 1. Central (5-0) - Can Jasper keep up in a shootout with the Bears? 2. North (5-0) - Any chance of overlooking Mater Dei or Vincennes or is North "that" good? 3. Southridge (5-0) - Big/Small PAC, the Raiders are champs, barring a surprise against TC. 4. Jasper (5-0) - Three straight away games against top SIAC squads. 5. Castle (3-1) - Only given up three TDs in four games. Might need more octane down the stretch. 6. Mount Vernon (4-1) - Big conference implications upcoming with Boonville and GS next 7. Tell City (5-0) - Just keep rolling, but solid enough to stay with the Raider for four quarters? 8. Memorial (2-3) - Bosse up next, then Reitz. Shot to get over .500 9. Reitz (2-3) - Castle at home. Four winnable games to end the season 10. Gibson Southern (2-3) - Humble pie served, but PAC title still in play. HM: Boonville (3-2), Mater Dei (1-4), Linton (3-2), Vincennes Lincoln (1-4) I didn't consult the Sagarin ratings, given that half the teams are playing closed schedules, I'm not sure much would change. Plenty of debate about Central/North and where Tell City fits into this puzzle. Thoughts? What does your list look like?
  5. Another instance through an entire HH offensive play. Disclaimer: I do not represent the views of the Heritage Hills athletic program or football team. I'm merely making an observation based on 20+ years of attending HS football games and my understanding of the rules and responsibilities of the home team. Regardless, props to North Posey for giving HH all it could handle. Even with HH still figuring out how to put the pieces together, the Vikings showed up ready to play and almost got the win. Good luck with the rest of your season, especially against Mater Dei in the sectional who you always seem to draw.
  6. It came from the field being surrounded by trees partially in a valley and Coach Clayton (an English teacher) using Kipling's "Law of the Jungle." BTW: Offical name is "Patriot Field." Maybe one day it will be "Clayton Memorial Stadium," but I've heard no specific talks of that...
  7. It was a long-standing argument that the top Big 8/PAC teams wouldn't have the depth to compete in the SIAC for an entire season.
  8. In post-game interviews HH Coach Wilkerson several times alluded to multiple players out because of injuries. Glad to get the W against the Vikings, but HH will need all hands on deck obviously against the PAC frontrunner Titans. Also, I have always had the utmost respect for the administration and football team in Poseyville, especially when I played against Coach Gengelbach's teams. And you always knew, especially in football and basketball getting a win at Posey, wasn't a foregone conclusion and his players never quit. I was however VERY disappointed to see highlights of the game with the NP public address announcer using the loud speakers to give play-by-play while HH was lining up on offense and even through the actual plays. This is a big no-no. And he did it again when HH lined up at the end of the game for a go-ahead field goal (shown below, turn up your speakers). That should have been addressed the second time it happened by the officials, who relay a message to the press box, and tell him to stop once ball is marked down and ready for play. Am I right @Bobref?
  9. Thanks. My father lived there for a while on a (jumping/show) horse farm, including during the Blizzard of 1979. He said the water in his eyes froze walking to the barn to tend to the horses... Fortunately, a few years later, he returned to Bloomington where he met my mother and then back to their families in Indy, where I was born and most of my family still lives.
  10. They did correctly predict West Side growth before the North Side. Although, I don't think the West Side will fully develop much beyond USI until I-69 (whatever the state highway used to be called... SR-66 ... finds a way to USI and connects with SR-62. The northern route from I-64 is too out of the way and I realize there isn't much land between where I-69 ends downtown and USI. (This is being said with the assumption that it's still a pain during rush hours to get from the East to West Sides on the Lloyd Expressway. They were working on improvements near US-41 when I last drove it regularly... Yes you can use I-64 to 41 to the bypass to USI, but it's not really optimal.) That being said the idea of another Catholic private school on the North Side would be interesting not only because of Vanderburgh County growth in the area, but how easy it would be for nearby counties to send students to an "Evansville Catholic North." I guess the deanery has the final say?
  11. That's where I played my last HS game against Chatard, semistate 2003 (Dray Mason, Baker, Halliburton, Dury and company) -- holding them to three TDs was an accomplishment ... First experience was there as a sophomore in 2001. Not sure if the facility has changed, but I assume the community hasn't much. Does the IHSAA allow tournament games there, as it's previously moved semistates away from Broad Ripple. Congrats on the win and season so far. I know they are taking it one week at a time, but let's see two undefeated teams going into Week 9 vs. Center Grove!
  12. At Arlington? Even in a COVID-restricted year, one would think there's a better facility in Marion County to play -- would even consider moving this to a Saturday for a better venue.
  13. I still don't know what to think of Castle. When did the Reitz scores occur? Jasper-Castle definitely seem to be very close. It doesn't help that Jasper has to play at Central, Castle, and North, followed by a home game against long-standing rival Vincennes. How are the SIAC games scheduled and how often will the schedule change? Obviously, it's tough to know what games will be big 2-4 years out, but you generally have an idea. Memorial had a gauntlet to open the year and Jasper to close the year, as we've said. But is this schedule layout indefinite or subject to change every four years or so?
  14. Always enjoyed the match-ups with the Alices during the series they had going a decade ago. It was a loss to SW Indiana football to see the program backslide, but now things seem to be headed in the right direction. Much like Mater Dei in 2A, Vincennes Lincoln could greatly benefit in the 3A tournament by playing in the SIAC if they can maintain depth and avoid injuries. I think the future is bright.
  15. We have a similar poll for SW Indiana. It's always difficult comparing successful small schools with large schools. Occasionally, you'll get cases where a 2A/3A team like Mater Dei who plays a closed SIAC schedule against all 4A & 5A teams get beaten in the playoffs by a good Southridge team (floats between 2A/3A). The closed conferences (or lack of diverse non-conference opponents) have compounded ranking teams unfortunately. Does Muncie fall into the category of NE Indiana? If so, why do schools in that area rarely progress in the tournament?
  16. Congrats to the Irish on getting the W. Sometimes even the best teams need a wake up call to know they aren't invisible. Good to see Cathedral and Center Grove having such great years. Indiana deserves some respect for it's high school football in the Midwest and nationally -- and it doesn't have to come at the cost of being a football or basketball state. Success in both at the highest levels helps all levels of HS players in Indiana have a better chance at playing at the next recruiters -- getting recruiting services and coaches' attention.
  17. Looks like I had Southridge slotted correctly. Tough stretch upcoming for Jasper. Anyone watch the game against MD? How do you think they'll fair against the SIAC's best? Without Gibson Southern and HH so dominate, the Big PAC isn't looking so great. Titans still control their destiny without any conference losses.
  18. A cesspool of forums and subforums where anything goes and people have had their identities exposed or businesses hacked. Pretty much the bottom of the internet. Best to watch not participate. I haven't been on the site in a decade.
  19. One playermaker of his caliber in HS can carry a team and it's impossible to replicate his qualities in practice. Unless you've played with or against a DI "athlete" (talking about position), you don't understand how much angles change and how you just have to grab on until others can come help clean up the tackle. With that being said, I hope Linton -- a storied "small school" with a proud tradition and fan base -- gives our now PAC brethren all they can handle, but ultimately go PAC.
  20. Reitz would have complete run of the West Side and Rex Mundi would pull from North, Central, Bosse (OK shared with Memorial), and Reitz (kind of scary...)
  21. http://wbdc.us/schedule/sports-schedule/ airs Southridge football. I don't see where they've been streaming video like their sister station http://wjts.tv/category/sports/football/ ... nor the school's athletic website or football Facebook page.
  22. I don't think you take that risk in a game like this unless you see a flaw in the PAT defense. Also, Heritage Hills used the strategy of lining up for the kick, but having various 2-pt run/pass plays just to slow the kick block down and keep them and future defenses honest. I hope Cathedral can spring a kick or punt return. Plays like that can really turn the tide, even if you don't score, through field position. Go Irish, Go Indiana! Did Coverdale have previous connections to the Cincy area? Tell City also lost its most successful (recent) coach, Ryan George -- son of the late IN HoF Coach "Bud" George, I think in 2014 to Ohio. He's now in Texas and the article I read said his wife has family there.
  23. Harrell has North scheduled at Bosse this week with no caveat on change of venue as there have been in previous weeks when games have been moved. @tango may know if it's been cleared to re-open by whatever relevant authorities -- building inspectors, EVSC, etc...
