  1. Congrats to the Irish on getting the W. Sometimes even the best teams need a wake up call to know they aren't invisible. Good to see Cathedral and Center Grove having such great years. Indiana deserves some respect for it's high school football in the Midwest and nationally -- and it doesn't have to come at the cost of being a football or basketball state. Success in both at the highest levels helps all levels of HS players in Indiana have a better chance at playing at the next recruiters -- getting recruiting services and coaches' attention.
  2. Looks like I had Southridge slotted correctly. Tough stretch upcoming for Jasper. Anyone watch the game against MD? How do you think they'll fair against the SIAC's best? Without Gibson Southern and HH so dominate, the Big PAC isn't looking so great. Titans still control their destiny without any conference losses.
  3. A cesspool of forums and subforums where anything goes and people have had their identities exposed or businesses hacked. Pretty much the bottom of the internet. Best to watch not participate. I haven't been on the site in a decade.
  4. Where in 4chan do you get your kicks?
  5. One playermaker of his caliber in HS can carry a team and it's impossible to replicate his qualities in practice. Unless you've played with or against a DI "athlete" (talking about position), you don't understand how much angles change and how you just have to grab on until others can come help clean up the tackle. With that being said, I hope Linton -- a storied "small school" with a proud tradition and fan base -- gives our now PAC brethren all they can handle, but ultimately go PAC.
  6. Reitz would have complete run of the West Side and Rex Mundi would pull from North, Central, Bosse (OK shared with Memorial), and Reitz (kind of scary...)
  7. http://wbdc.us/schedule/sports-schedule/ airs Southridge football. I don't see where they've been streaming video like their sister station http://wjts.tv/category/sports/football/ ... nor the school's athletic website or football Facebook page.
  8. I don't think you take that risk in a game like this unless you see a flaw in the PAT defense. Also, Heritage Hills used the strategy of lining up for the kick, but having various 2-pt run/pass plays just to slow the kick block down and keep them and future defenses honest. I hope Cathedral can spring a kick or punt return. Plays like that can really turn the tide, even if you don't score, through field position. Go Irish, Go Indiana! Did Coverdale have previous connections to the Cincy area? Tell City also lost its most successful (recent) coach, Ryan George -- son of the late IN HoF Coach "Bud" George, I think in 2014 to Ohio. He's now in Texas and the article I read said his wife has family there.
  9. Harrell has North scheduled at Bosse this week with no caveat on change of venue as there have been in previous weeks when games have been moved. @tango may know if it's been cleared to re-open by whatever relevant authorities -- building inspectors, EVSC, etc...
  10. You forgot the the third phase of the game, especially in high school: special teams. Thoughts? Advantage.
  11. Hehe. And I get criticized for not being so active while I'm working/residing abroad... I had to give up management of the TGD poll to WC Grad (he's done a great job) and some of the Pick 'Ems. The crash didn't help, but still running our Twitter and auto-reshare feature, along with the predictor tool (working out some kinks for the server) -- still trying to do my part. Although, I've had to limit my forum moderator duties to egregious reports and those on topics I'm very familiar with (like those in SW Indiana.)
  12. Yes, if you will it's the Carmel or Center Grove of the Evansville area. As I understand it, Evansville North's demographics are slowly shifting that way too. They have been very competitive in some minor sports like girls golf, but not sports like wrestling or swimming where Castle is rich in history at the state level (especially at the individual level). Coaches in those sports can make all the difference and Castle has been fortunate in wrestling (benefiting their FB program), similar to CG and Coach Moore with track.
  13. Cathedral fans are being silent before this one. I have no doubt they have the utmost respect for St. X, but perhaps there's a gag order in place... Shame. There will be five pages of comments after the game. I hear they're calling @Bobref out of retirement to do this one.
  14. In communications with DK, hope to have time this weekend to work on it.
  15. Yes and I'd predict another sectional championship this year, no offense to TC or Linton. Coach Goebel knows how to play with the cards he's dealt by Week 10 knows when to play them. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Tell City win a sectional. It would do wonders for the community, but if being the favorite for a sectional title means "gone south" then you're right.
  16. Or just call the third RB/WR a "flex" position or something similar ... same with DEs, LBs. Some odd front teams have three down linemen with a what are essentially OLBs walked up playing as a DE (a 50 defense is essentially the same as a 3-4, when you talk about responsibilities... just alignment changes based on formation). Then you have your traditional 4-3 and 4-4 (not sure if anyone still runs this as base). But definitely the 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 defenses have trickled down to HS. Additionally, let's assume Brady Allen is PAC 1st Team QB (as expected), but another QB deserves recognition. He'll get all-conference awards (1st Team) on defense at a position he may have only played a few snaps. Not sure what the solution is there.
  17. When in doubt, at all levels, personal awards like Mr Football, The Heisman, NFL MVP tend to go to the player whose team has the most success. Let's see what type of numbers Allen puts up in the remaining five games including the rematch against Boonville. There's also an argument for Mockobee to be considered because he also contributes on defense and special teams. As far as the PAC is concerned it's a two-horse race for MVP, I'm not sure it's much different for the C&P all-area team, nor the coaches' awards, or the press's. Still I think overall team success will be the tie breaker if there needs to be one...just the way it is.
  18. I don't know the causation. It's an observed correlation without data to support it. I'm trying to see if others agree with the correlation, if so why (causation).
  19. In the closed conference with only Bosse and Harrison basement dwellers (Vincennes maybe just adjusting to the constant competition, but still respectable), the SIAC is full of games with real conference implications every week. Reitz. Castle, Memorial and Mater Dei can shake up the standings if something happens like North not clicking in Week 1. Should be an interesting race to watch. Hump Week!
  20. After Week 4 1. Central (4-0) - Only given up two TDs. "Yes but Central didn't beat Memorial by as much as North." It's a shame we have to wait until Week 9 unless the Bears stumble on The Hill... 2. North (4-0) - Maybe the best team in the poll, just not yet. Win against Bosse will give Coach Paridaen a 47-47 all-time record. 3. Southridge (4-0) - Hope the Titans and Raiders are healthy. Goes without saying, a win justifies their weak SoS. "Oh my, how can little 'ole Southridge be ranked 3rd?" 4. Jasper (4-0) - Things starting to get real, let's see if that Big 8 depth argument holds water. 5. Castle (2-1) - Hard to get a read on Castle. If North is that good, then maybe the Knights have SIAC hopes if the chips fall right. 6. Mount Vernon (3-1) - Losing to a ranked 2A Kentucky team by a score doesn't sting as bad as a PAC loss would. 7. Reitz (2-2) - I want to believe this Reitz team can deliver. Opportunity this week. Not showing up in big games. 8. Tell City (4-0) - Congrats Rookie Coach Webb. Take in the sites in Larry Bird country. 9. Gibson Southern (2-2) - Not as convincing win as they'd like. Might take it out on da 'Ridge and jump WAY up. 10. Memorial (1-3) - Harrison and Bosse up next, then Reitz HM: Mater Dei 1-3, Boonville 2-2, Some teams near and dear to my heart need to continue finding their identity and their roles. FYI, one of the hardest Top 10s to ever piece together
  21. It's amazing the correlation that a 6th class has had on Cathedral and a few 6A teams (and possibly New Pal last year) being tremendously better than the top 5A teams were as I remember it in the 1990s and early 2000s. I know WC had some teams which were arguably the best in the Midwest, but it's possible to see multiple Indy teams ranked very high nationally this year and in recent years. Obviously the travel rule is always going to hurt our state in the rankings, but am I the only one who think now there are 3-4 legitimate Top 100 national teams from Indiana now that we are well into the 6A era? Good luck to the Irish representing Indiana this week.
  22. Very good Jasper team (pure Brewer ball, double-tight, I form, flanker and Power I) that went on to beat HH in the sectional final in a nail biter and then on to state and were runners-up to SB St. Joseph's. I forgot Mater Dei was in 3A during part of the 1990s.
  23. @TigerFan20, I'm not sure why but I agree. Jasper is a solid team, but Mater Dei might keep it close if they can score (only 3 TDs all year). In other topics, Jasper's schedule is very end-heavy with their least tough opponent after Week 5 (according to the computers), Vincennes, a long-standing rival where records go out the window. On the other side, Memorial was very top heavy. Also, Jasper and Mater Dei have so much tradition, but when's the last time they played? I know they were in the "old" SIAC, but going back to 1970 I don't see a Jasper-Mater Dei matchup. For those of us who haven't purchased @Rudy's books (haven't had time, will ask for some for Christmas this year). Where was Rex Mundi located in Evansville and what school(s) did it dissolve into and why?
  24. Congratulations to Memorial on winning the Evansville Catholic Bowl. Good defenses, or bad offenses? Mater Dei 1-0 against 3A teams; all losses to 5A and 4A teams (albeit Memorial in 4A due to the success factor). Sneaky Coach Goebel. Find a way to put some points on the board (3 TDs in 4 games isn't very MD-like) and I don't think anyone will be wanting to play Mater Dei in 2A after Week 9. Would be nice for someone midweek to post all the SIAC and PAC games on television or streamed online with links.
  25. I hate being right. I don't buy the argument that Boonville was more affected than HH in Week 3. Regardless, GS got the W, that's what is important. Should be interesting to see the rematch. As always, especially in 1-4A HS FB, a dominate playmaker can make any game interesting. Props to Boonville for coming to play. Coach Ward is headed in the right direction.
