SIAC Week 4 - 2020
hhpatriot04 replied to Football Fanatic's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
My bad, didn't see it. Wow it's weird replying to a Jasper follower regarding an SIAC thread. -
Michigan City Suspends Season
hhpatriot04 replied to Tommy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Keep the discussion on Michigan City and implications for it and its opponents. This is the high school football forum, we have the Out Of Bounds forum where you can debate social/potentially politically-charged issues like COVID and its relevant fallout without restrictions. Please take this conversation there and stick to football. We also have threads in the HS forum listing cancellations, so if you want to contribute be sure Michigan City is on there and if their opponents reschedule, then update accordingly. -
SIAC Week 4 - 2020

Also, given the meatgrinder of a schedule Memorial has seen (MD also hasn't had it easy) and the new players now have four games under their belt (effectively with the scrimmage), what does Memorial have to do to score more points than MD? -
It's Wednesday and yet no one has made a Week 4 SIAC thread... So, I'll split Football Fanatic's post into a separate thread and we can show those northerners that Indiana does extend past Bloomington and we aren't part of Kentucky.

Gibson will undoubtedly rise. I expect them to win the Big School PAC, but a chink in the Titans' armor may be their rush defense, albeit against the tough schedule. I think Boonville will make enough mistakes, but you always have a chance of some special teams plays. I think we'll know pretty soon if it's going to be close. There are two approaches to polls: - Rank the teams based on success so far, also early on consider that established programs get a boost - Rank the teams based on who you think will be better Week 9 I prefer the former, and predict if GS and SR win out, and there's a one loss SIAC team, you'll see the SIAC team or GS No. 1, the other 2, and Southridge 3. As the PAC has proven time and again, you can play a 160-180 SoS and make it to semistate or beyond. Therefore, I trust the Raiders are every bit as tough as years past, but until TC knocks them off you have to honor that.

After Week 3 1. Central (3-0) - Top spots are earned. VL, Reitz, Jasper coming up let's see if they are for real. 2. North (3-0) - Seem to be improving every week. Need a few marquee victories. 3. Southridge (3-0) - Solid. SoS may cost them as the season goes on. 4. Jasper (3-0) - You lost to Southridge last year. Congrats on beating Reitz. 5. Reitz (2-1) - Win against North would shake up the SIAC. Already conference title implications at stake. 6. Mount Vernon (3-0) - Quietly undefeated. Is Catholic good this year? 7. Castle (1-1) - Enough players back to deal with Harrison? 8. Tell City (3-0) - We have to Wait until Week 6 vs. Southridge to see if TC can claim a conference title. 9. Mater Dei (1-2) - Coach Goebel only gets his teams better through the season. Solid win against Vincennes. 10. Gibson Southern (1-2) - Let's see if that scheduling paid off. Still playing for a PAC title. HM: Vincennes (1-2) - Keep it close and disciplined against Central and who knows? Could also be a Bears' blowout, Boonville (2-1) - Arguably the best athlete in the area keeps the Pioneers within striking distance of Gibson, Memorial (0-3) - Award for toughest SIAC schedule so far. ETA: Flipped the Vincennes-MD result. Poll updated to reflect that. My mistake. Must have upset TGD gods. Also, no cocaine for me in Iraq, promise. Apologies and remember this is for entertainment.

SW Indiana Freshman and JV News
hhpatriot04 replied to gahoosierfan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Long haul for a JV game... What was the time and mileage? Do you go to I-64 to I-65, or now with I-69 is it better just to head north and cut over south of Bloomington (I forget the road). -
I would try a different browser, but if you prefer to stay with Safari, then switch to desktop mode for the site for the time being.

When you guys say mobile app, do you mean you are viewing the site on your cell phone with a browser like Chrome or Safari? Or have you downloaded some sort of non-browser app in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The company that sells our forum's software is working on a separate mobile app that should improve mobile experiences.

Not sure how this got turned into a PAC/Big 8 or Jasper-Southridge thread. I'll post my SW Indiana Top 10 - Week 4 edition in another thread later today. Should I trust you guys who say Central is not the best team in the league? Is it possible Central "played down" to a lessor Memorial team and the Bears will rise to the occasion when they have to against Reitz, North, and Jasper? How did Central beat Reitz by 42 in the regular season last year, but only lose by a touchdown in the sectional? This rise of Central over the past four seasons or so has me perplexed.

This is typical of every time we upgrade the forum software. The community adjusts. I have to use Facebook at work and am not a fan of the new design... lots of things are hidden which used to be easily accessible. To the people doubting the security: DK and 77Jimmie each have 25+ years in the tech industry (hardware and software). I know times the forum has been under DoS attacks (no threat to the user, just makes loading the site impossible) and spam bots registering accounts from third-world countries. This isn't their first rodeo. TGD, thanks to a lot of people but most of all the late Coach Tim Adams, has survived because of the community. Did the updates thread get shorter? Yes, but we have the largest IN HS football Twitter account to make up for it. Whenever the server goes down we have Facebook to let users know when the forum will be back. Just like a good football program, you adapt with the times -- even if that means Bill Belichik explaining much of the "new" offenses in the NFL are just variations of the Wing-T series. So after 22 years, TGD remains and will endure and adapt. -
Serious Question...
hhpatriot04 replied to footballer_02's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
If I recall (from my childhood going to basketball camp), the University of Evansville has a track that encircles 2-3 basketball courts. I don't think it would be long enough to do the 60-meter dash. It might not even still be there, that was 25 years ago or so. Jim Crews era... right around the time they got rid of football (one of the biggest losses to SW Indiana HS football). -
I just want to see who wins between Bosse and Harrison. Do you think they would win one or two games in the small PAC conference? Remember it was an SIAC poster who re-opened this yearly can of worms.

In the past (2010 era) @WCGrad92 and I made a Google Sheet that had each team's website, FB page, Twitter handle, etc... I'm sure that Google Sheet is still on my drive, but teams change FB pages and Twitter handles year-to-year (usually parents or booster clubs come and go without ensuring their account info is properly passed along). Slowly you're seeing Athletic Directors establish "official" accounts and sharing final scores for all sports or for larger sports or if say a team goes on a tournament run, they'll share more frequent updates. Trying to make a list is a bit like trying to herd cats. We have nearly 9,000 followers on Twitter without paid promotions and little unpaid promotion ( @DK_Barons can add a link to TGD Twitter & FB pages on our menus). Probably a quarter or more of those followers are inactive accounts -- parents who only followed a program while their child played. Still, if we're consistent with it, it'll grow and TGD followers will grow it themselves.

Interesting. Where I am in northern Iraq (Kurdistan), the government basically lifted all restrictions but is still encouraging good hygiene, social distancing, and masks. This was because since March the regional governtment (about the size and population of Indiana, but far less healthcare capacity) had very strict movement restrictions and it was heavily affecting many businesses which depend on face-to-face interactions... We shall see. Back to the topic. 1. Central -- Who is No. 2? North or Jasper at this point?
-
Often journalists or people posting updates just mention teams' full names in the first post of the "thread" because they assume followers know what game they are updating. Character limits on Twitter also can be a reason. Good practice to use the team or school's Twitter handle to avoid confusion and increase the reach/engagement of your tweets.
-
No good. Could affect them next week. Why do these COVID issues arise late in the week? I'm out of the loop. Are teams testing within 48 hours of game time, or? How long now to get test results?
-
Interesting that the conference game switched. You see this in basketball, but with tournaments... I wonder if there is a PAC by-law or the ADs/coaches flipped a coin or how that worked out. Statistically the home team does have a 1-2 point advantage in all levels of football. Should be interesting to see how GS handles Mockobee, given the rush defense so far has been less than stellar (no offense intended just stating the obvious).

Does the IHSAA have to sign off as well? If so, do you think they'll consider one-year contracts for football moving forward?

Serious Question...
hhpatriot04 replied to footballer_02's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Do some of the better track programs in the state participate in any out of state or in state indoors competitions? Where are there indoor tracks besides IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame? ISU? -
As the previous poster mentioned, you don't need a Twitter account to view public Twitter profiles. Thanks for your contributions to this Twitter-specific thread Muda. If privacy is your concern, you can create anonymous accounts with anonymous email servicses using VPNs and browsers which don't track you. If your concern is Twitter's notorious algorithms which control the content you see, that can be disabled. Anyway, BACk on topic. This will be the first week of 2020 that we will be autosharing instantly scores, updates, and multimedia which mention @gridirondigest or use the #TGD hashtag with our thousands of followers.
-
So we've had @gridirondigest on Twitter since before the IHSAA had an account. We have the unique feature to instantly reshare any tweet we're mentioned in instantly and automatically. This is particularly useful for game updates, scores, feeds, and multimedia. Do you follow TGD on Twitter? What would you like to see more or less of?
