  1. Not sure how this got turned into a PAC/Big 8 or Jasper-Southridge thread. I'll post my SW Indiana Top 10 - Week 4 edition in another thread later today. Should I trust you guys who say Central is not the best team in the league? Is it possible Central "played down" to a lessor Memorial team and the Bears will rise to the occasion when they have to against Reitz, North, and Jasper? How did Central beat Reitz by 42 in the regular season last year, but only lose by a touchdown in the sectional? This rise of Central over the past four seasons or so has me perplexed.
  2. This is typical of every time we upgrade the forum software. The community adjusts. I have to use Facebook at work and am not a fan of the new design... lots of things are hidden which used to be easily accessible. To the people doubting the security: DK and 77Jimmie each have 25+ years in the tech industry (hardware and software). I know times the forum has been under DoS attacks (no threat to the user, just makes loading the site impossible) and spam bots registering accounts from third-world countries. This isn't their first rodeo. TGD, thanks to a lot of people but most of all the late Coach Tim Adams, has survived because of the community. Did the updates thread get shorter? Yes, but we have the largest IN HS football Twitter account to make up for it. Whenever the server goes down we have Facebook to let users know when the forum will be back. Just like a good football program, you adapt with the times -- even if that means Bill Belichik explaining much of the "new" offenses in the NFL are just variations of the Wing-T series. So after 22 years, TGD remains and will endure and adapt.
  3. If I recall (from my childhood going to basketball camp), the University of Evansville has a track that encircles 2-3 basketball courts. I don't think it would be long enough to do the 60-meter dash. It might not even still be there, that was 25 years ago or so. Jim Crews era... right around the time they got rid of football (one of the biggest losses to SW Indiana HS football).
  4. I just want to see who wins between Bosse and Harrison. Do you think they would win one or two games in the small PAC conference? Remember it was an SIAC poster who re-opened this yearly can of worms.
  5. Forget same acronyms, several schools across the state have the same name: - North Central (Indianapolis and Farmersburg) - Mount Vernon (Fortville and Posey County) I'm sure there are others, the one that always annoyed me was Hamilton Heights and Heritage Hills when both were ranked in 3A.
  6. In the past (2010 era) @WCGrad92 and I made a Google Sheet that had each team's website, FB page, Twitter handle, etc... I'm sure that Google Sheet is still on my drive, but teams change FB pages and Twitter handles year-to-year (usually parents or booster clubs come and go without ensuring their account info is properly passed along). Slowly you're seeing Athletic Directors establish "official" accounts and sharing final scores for all sports or for larger sports or if say a team goes on a tournament run, they'll share more frequent updates. Trying to make a list is a bit like trying to herd cats. We have nearly 9,000 followers on Twitter without paid promotions and little unpaid promotion ( @DK_Barons can add a link to TGD Twitter & FB pages on our menus). Probably a quarter or more of those followers are inactive accounts -- parents who only followed a program while their child played. Still, if we're consistent with it, it'll grow and TGD followers will grow it themselves.
  7. Interesting. Where I am in northern Iraq (Kurdistan), the government basically lifted all restrictions but is still encouraging good hygiene, social distancing, and masks. This was because since March the regional governtment (about the size and population of Indiana, but far less healthcare capacity) had very strict movement restrictions and it was heavily affecting many businesses which depend on face-to-face interactions... We shall see. Back to the topic. 1. Central -- Who is No. 2? North or Jasper at this point?
  8. Often journalists or people posting updates just mention teams' full names in the first post of the "thread" because they assume followers know what game they are updating. Character limits on Twitter also can be a reason. Good practice to use the team or school's Twitter handle to avoid confusion and increase the reach/engagement of your tweets.
  9. No good. Could affect them next week. Why do these COVID issues arise late in the week? I'm out of the loop. Are teams testing within 48 hours of game time, or? How long now to get test results?
  10. Interesting that the conference game switched. You see this in basketball, but with tournaments... I wonder if there is a PAC by-law or the ADs/coaches flipped a coin or how that worked out. Statistically the home team does have a 1-2 point advantage in all levels of football. Should be interesting to see how GS handles Mockobee, given the rush defense so far has been less than stellar (no offense intended just stating the obvious).
  11. Does the IHSAA have to sign off as well? If so, do you think they'll consider one-year contracts for football moving forward?
  12. Do some of the better track programs in the state participate in any out of state or in state indoors competitions? Where are there indoor tracks besides IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame? ISU?
  13. As the previous poster mentioned, you don't need a Twitter account to view public Twitter profiles. Thanks for your contributions to this Twitter-specific thread Muda. If privacy is your concern, you can create anonymous accounts with anonymous email servicses using VPNs and browsers which don't track you. If your concern is Twitter's notorious algorithms which control the content you see, that can be disabled. Anyway, BACk on topic. This will be the first week of 2020 that we will be autosharing instantly scores, updates, and multimedia which mention @gridirondigest or use the #TGD hashtag with our thousands of followers.
  14. Post scores and updates across the state for Week 3 of the 2020 season here
  15. So we've had @gridirondigest on Twitter since before the IHSAA had an account. We have the unique feature to instantly reshare any tweet we're mentioned in instantly and automatically. This is particularly useful for game updates, scores, feeds, and multimedia. Do you follow TGD on Twitter? What would you like to see more or less of?
  16. Who has played the most unique opponents? My bet is whatever SB school is oldest, Evansville Central, Reitz, Cathedral or Linton (despite its relatively "closed" current conference schedule. Vincennes Lincoln also could be in the running assuming they didn't absorb any schools during consolidation.
  17. You're missing 3A runner-up Heritage Hills opening 0-2 against teams they have collectively beat 90 or so percent over the past 20 years. Yet somehow they are still ranked No. 15. All due respect to Mount Vernon and Tell City. Another challenge awaits with Boonville and a Navy committed RB/DB.
  18. Are there no penalty clauses for breaking a game contract (I assume something in writing exists?) If the issue was location, did Gibson call the bluff and counter with playing at Southport with something like split gate revenue sharing?
  19. Try a different browser if that's an option and double check there's not an Advanced Settings text link below that chunk of warning text.
  20. There's an indoor track season in Indiana? We participated as our first event in the meet at IU, but I believe that was Heritage Hills' only indoor meet.
  21. What happened to the cries of gentrification in downtown Indy? When I left in 2016, I had many friends in their upper 20s and lower 30s living in areas between the circle and Broad Ripple... unthinkable even 15 years ago. I imagine the median household income for Marion County residents has risen over the past 20 years.
  22. There have been years the best 3A team would've given the best currently 6A teams a challenge. 1999 Roncalli and 2003 Chatard come to mind. If not, they didn't need much more to be as good...certainly not the rosters of all 1-3A teams. It will probably never happen but change the all-star game to 1-4A vs 5-6A.
  23. Yeah, don't think Sagarin will be reliable this year because of COVID until Week 6 or so. Typically by Week 4 all teams are "connected" (outside of closed conferences), so the ratings get better week by week. With the SIAC being closed, we no longer can statistically compare its teams' performances until the playoffs. A bit of a bummer.
  24. I've never met a Rebel who wants to be a Marksman... But maybe you're right. TC is a notoriously difficult place to stay, as many are still living in the 1980s athletically. I went to school with the Kramers and Harpenaus... Try as we might we could never get Ben, a 6-foot-5 athletic 300 pound lineman, to come play at Heritage Hills with his step brother (same class, went to Wabash to play football). Ben went to Purdue and I think eventually got on scholarship throwing hammer throw.... he was recruited heavily by small DIs and to walk on at Big 10 schools. I then covered TC closely for 5 years 2008-13ish... Lots of really good individual football, basketball, and baseball players. I thought their best recent coach was Ryan George, who left for the Cincy area and before last season he went to Texas...Shame, but if Mac wants to dictate that he coaches at TC in the future, then more power to him.
