  1. If they get that far without them, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the program not to let them play. Obviously the kids who filled in can do the job and they didn't do the crime so they lose their position so these kids can play? What do some of the coaches on here think?
  2. Kids make mistakes and they and their teammates will pay the price for these poor decisions. But in the South Bend Tribune article the Chief made it sound like not a big deal. That is more concerning to me than anything. Underage kids drinking and speeding along a highway should be a concern for us all. Just because someone didn't get hurt doesn't make it any better.
  3. I'll bet King Gyros on that game. Plus a beer of your choice.
  4. I agree except for a couple of games... 1. Plymouth will upset St. Joe. (I believe that we are due) 2. Ridge will win. 3. Warsaw will lose which is just my take on the coin flip.
  5. It's been awhile, but since my AD is on vacation and won't chastise me for posting what I think here here is my thought. We should take our sectionals and play a round robin. Then seed the sectional from that data. The last games of the season would be against a natural rival who lives close by. I would love to see our Rockies take on the Glenn Falcons or the CMA Eagles. Both of those game make more sense than the current games against East Noble and Kokomo. Each school still gets that one opponent who they love to hate or just have someone who isn't too far away and save the kids a trip. But more importantly you get true seedings for the sectional. After that play the rest of the rest of the tournament on the home field of the team who plays the least number of away games as we currently do. Or if you want to use a computer ranking then let the sags determine the home team. Having coaches vote is not the answer. I agree with FootballKing16 in that the bias would creep in and not give a best case seeding. Let's be honest, the conference championships are a joke because in most cases the same teams win them every year. So drop conferences and play a round robin in each sectional to seed the tourney. How much fun would that be?
  6. In reading this topic I see some questions are being asked. Here is what I see as someone who is around a lot... 1. We have had a couple of classes in a row who don't play football. The kids in those grades are good kids but they aren't football players. I wish they could've got some wins but if you look at them through the years they just haven't been successful in football. So lack of talent is reason number one. 2. Our move from the option based offense that worked in the early 2000's to shotgun spread (when Coach Barron's youngest was QB) to wildcat (Jake Reichard at QB), to this past season where we didn't have an identity. The offense switched from game to game. None of them worked. But we had an offense we hung our hat on and changed it for the coach's son and we still are searching for an identity. 3. New AD over the last couple of years who had a well-known outburst after a boys basketball game that has made it difficult to get coaches to apply for open jobs. (Girls/Boys Basketball). We will see about Football. But on a side note even though we had limited people apply to for the Boy's Job they seem to be showing improvement and hopefully we will turn the corner there. Joel Grindle and his staff of former basketball players are doing an excellent job. But still there is a lot of distrust from the coaches on staff for the current AD. 4. But our Junior High teams were both very successful this past season and things are looking up. Will we be competitive next year? Not unless we can get some more athletic kids to play. But there is a chance for us to get better with the right person in place. Patience will be key for the new hire. I haven't heard any rumors about where the coaching search will go but I do hope we get plenty of people to choose from and if any of you are looking to apply please do and if you want any info about the school that can't be asked here, DM me on the digest and I will try to get you your answers. I want us to be good at the major sports. When schools see success in Football and Basketball in Indiana they seem to have better overall school culture. So please if you are coach looking for a challenge please apply!
  7. I don't know if he was the best candidate but I agree that he was doing a job that he was asked the impossible of. Goshen and Plymouth are two communities where soccer has taken over. I hope that we can withstand Junior High Soccer but I don't know. If that happens we may never field some of the football teams we have had in the past. I know that when we played Goshen they played hard and with enthusiasm. I don't know the specifics at school but from an opponents perspective Coach Park seemed to be doing the right things.
  8. I was watching as a bystander but I have become an AC fan. The officiating hasn't made the same calls for either side. Even the late hit out of bounds early in the game was a terrible call. Too bad this has to happen here.
  9. But it doesn't present less. So why are the rules different for the youth than the older kids? I worry that we have too many Vince Lombardi's out there who put kids in unsafe situations. These kids either get hurt or quit because of the stress on their bodies because they haven't fully developed yet. We all love this game but I again wonder the motivation for these events when the stress on the athlete could cause undue harm.
  10. I just wonder why we have rules for High School, College, and Pro for contact in practice and number of games played but not for our youth? With numbers down at a lot of places are we pushing this too far too early? I wonder what the motivation is to do this to young kids while we are protecting the older athletes.
  11. Because being smart and protecting our future players isn't important? I question your motivation for not wanting to protect our children.
  12. So maybe the concussion problems we see in the upper levels are started in the youth leagues. Kids banging around for too long before they have developed brains. It is pretty obvious that the people who run these tourneys and the people who send teams are doing something to potentially hurt these kids. I guess I wonder the reasoning for doing this knowing the damage that it can cause.
  13. So.....with all of the discussion about contact sports and concussions it is okay for a middle school child to play multiple games over a weekend but players at the higher levels are only allowed to play 1 game or 5 quarters a week? I agree with the original poster that this seems out of wack with what is best for the athlete. But I guess since you win an 8th grade tourney it makes it okay....
  14. Then who do we place responsibility on? It starts with the players, who are coached by the coaches who choose to play them in the game, the coaches are under the direct supervision of the AD, who is under the direct supervision of the Principal, who is under the direct supervision of the Super, who is under the direction of the school board. I don't know if the schools boards in this case are elected or appointed so I don't know who they answer to. But I know that in the end the kids will be punished. We know that "poop" runs downhill. I wonder who will accept the responsibility or will the IHSAA have to determine who is responsible?
  15. Thanks. I will enjoy another night of flipping though the games. Good luck to all of the teams that are playing.
  16. Will the IHSAA charge to watch regional games again or will they allow the streams to play on their network. I enjoy watching multiple games from home. But I don't want to pay for it.
  17. Of course the ratings come into focus. They change each week. If teams win they move up. What did they look like before the sectional started?
  18. Since it looks like both teams are guilty in this matter, then they both should be removed from the tourney or nothing should happen to either team. I watched the video but not the entire game so I didn't see everything. But from the play in question that started the final fight, both schools are at fault. If the IHSAA wants to send a message then kick both teams out of the tourney. If you fight you get removed.
  19. Back when I was young...I'm sure you guys enjoy telling your stories from the barstool. I'm proud to be your hero.
  20. Just because it was done in the past doesn't make it the best way to do things....
  21. I would suggest that the IHSAA play all sectional games at home sites. With the option to move to bigger/better equipped fields for the second and third round games. Then play all regional/semi state games at neutral sites. As I mentioned in a previous post watching the Adams Central vs. Monroe Central game last night made me wonder if the game was played on turf would it have been a better game for both teams? I live in Plymouth and we have a very nice facility and since we were out of the tourney it was open to use. I think that at least it should be discussed by the IHSAA.
  22. I disagree. I was able to watch some of the South Adams vs. Monroe Central game and that game was played in mud pit. Not only did it take away from both teams but it may have tore the field up and require some $$$ to repair. The field turf at least would offer some chance for both teams to play on a decent field and also allow them to put forth their best effort that is not changed due to the weather.
