It was only a matter of time.  Brian Urlacher will be on hand at Blue Chip here in Michigan City for the ribbon cutting and place the first bet at the new Fan Duel Sports Book.  Bears are +3 point favorites with an Under/Over of 46.5 against the Packers tonight.  With a +140 straight bet payout for the Packers and a - 160 for the Bears.

Betting on sports is not my thing, but what is the state and local government cut on such activity?  It can't be insignificant.

Can tell ya the casinos only get 5% per the casino I work at. So....pretty significant

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue faculty and staff – and maybe even students – could be barred from wagering on Boilermaker teams, President Mitch Daniels said.

Daniels released a statement late Thursday saying that Purdue’s trustees will consider a policy, of some sort, at their Oct. 10 meeting on the West Lafayette campus.

Daniels said the policy was still in the works and no specifics have been released. He said some faculty members and Purdue athletics department urged the administration to come up with a policy.

The news comes weeks after the first bets were placed at the start of September at Indiana casinos and sports books. The Indiana General Assembly legalized gambling on sporting events, including NCAA games. The Indiana Gaming Commission permitted 13 locations – 10 casinos and three off-track betting sites – to start taking bets on Sept. 1.

I understand employees, especially coaches and auxiliary staff members but not sure why students could not bet on their beloved Boilermakers.

Not yet, but kicking around the thought.  I really like the one at Paris Las Vegas, but figure they're not the same here.

I have not but I good friend of mine has been up North and done the rounds.   Amistar is just a window you can go to.    Horseshoe has the "vegas" style book with TVs etc

I can see both sides of this one as far as students go. The players are in classes with students, so the opportunity for some students would be too easy to reach out to players for some type of “influence”.

yea more I think about it you are right.     I keep forgetting about all the prop bets or individual bets.   Kid goes up to Rondale Moore:  Hey you didn't get 10 catches because you dropped a ball, that cost me XYZ Money......  You would like to think that would not happen, but.................

Or the flipside....if you get 100 yards rushing, I can make some cash. I will give you a cut of that.

It the first month Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City took in $3.8 million in wagers and paid the state $91,000 in wagering tax.

Just curious....years and years ago, there was a set amount you could win before you would be taxed. IIRC, it was $2,000. The tracks even had IRS reps woking the windows. Is there still an amount to win before taxes are paid?
