So, based on your 2nd paragraph, you’ve got Michigan #1 in your preseason college football poll, huh?

Go blue!

Also, based on your logic.

1.  Ben Davis

2.  Snider

3.  East Central

4.  Chatard

5.  Luers

6.  Lutheran

Right?

Uh no… You know better than that. Man, what is so hard for you to understand? Warren was 0-7 against teams above .500 last year yet you want to give them credit towards this year for that. Who did they beat last year?

College football is a totally different beast than high school and you are smarter than that. NIL has ruined college football and players go to the highest bidder, period. Hell, you can play at 4 schools in 4 years and make bank. Each year in college football is its own entity.

Breath #1:  “Warren is like Notre Dame in that they are overrated annually despite not beating anyone.”

Pause…

Breath #2:  “College football is a totally different beast than high school.”

LOFL.

Notre Dame is the most overrated team in college football every damn year. Top 5 recruiting class every year and it amounts to jack crap. 30+ years since a national title and let me assure you it will be at least another 30 years till another one.

Preseason rankings should be based on where teams finished the previous year unless there is a team with special circumstances, like a key player returning from injury, a boatload of proven transfers, etc…

I will say this, Warren might go undefeated this year and win the state title, they might throttle Snider in week 1, and beat Ben Davis handily, but it won’t change how I feel about a team who was 0-7 against .500 or better teams last year and is given a top 5 ranking. It just won’t…

Most preseason polls should just not happen. In college football or High school. It over hypes teams that would never be considered for the top 10 from the start. In high school it doesn't matter as much, because everyone makes the playoffs.

Where in college, the New Years Six spots were getting filled by teams that without their preseason rankings likely would have been on the outside looking in most years.  You can't get beat by every ranked team you played by 10+ points and then get credit for beating an over ranked Mid SEC/BIG10 team. But, alas that is the world in which we live.

20.  Evansville Reitz

19.  Bloomington South

18.  Franklin Central

17.  Penn

16.  East Central

It will be interesting to see how East Central does this year.

I have heard some things from some Penn players that the new coaching staff is 100% committed to changing the culture at the school. Get back to the that winning mentality, blue collar hard work kinda stuff you like to hear. I am more optimistic for the future of the program. Which is good news.

Looks good so far. Also looking forward to see if Penn can reach new heights under this new leadership. The future looks bright for the northern teams.

Agree completely.  No doubt they will take a "step back" but how far?

Do you think they have a chance at Semi-State in the south? I haven't looked to see who is in their sectional.

Zero doubt, maybe more.

I think 5A Regional matchups will be:

Merrillville v Valpo (easy)

Warsaw v Kokomo....(I don't like the Kokomo selection, because Kokomo underachieves almost every season)

Decatur Central v East Central (best matchup of the 5A tournament)

Bloomington North v Evansville North (just guessing)

I think Merrillville will be right there with DC and EC.

I think the Valpo v Merrillville rematch will be a good game and I think the DC v EC will probably be the south Semi-state.

Looking at what Warsaw has I think they are a favorite to get to Semi-State in those two sectionals.

I keep forgetting about Warsaw, I'm not underestimating them.

Whoever they get in Semi-State, especially if it is Merrillville better not sleep on them.

Valpo will be able to handle a physical grind it out game. Merrillville, fast athletes don't like to be hit hard...

If Warsaw can keep Merrillville in front of themselves and get hits on them...it will be a long night. If Merrillville can get the edges and get the D running sideline to sideline I think they will be able to pull away.

Great analysis and as I said in this thread earlier, I just can't buy Merrillville YET.  I want to so badly but they are northwest Indiana's version of Brownsburg to me.  Probably unfair but I just need to see it to believe it.

Merrillville and Penn have had their back and forth trading of wins. The ones that stand out to me were my Sophomore and Junior years. Aldridge the 5 star that went to ND, was supposed to run all over us, he broke his hand early in the first game we won 31-0 and did nothing my Junior year when we had our back up QB playing and lost 7-0. All that talent and couldn't produce. Those teams went 11-2 and 11-3 respectively.

Merrillville for me is a show me school. They have to win before I buy anything with them. I know they beat Valpo in regionals last year and that guaranteed Snider going to State. Yes, I knew Snider was going to beat Merrillville easily. Valpo would have given Snider a much better game. Warsaw is very dangerous and might be my favorite to represent the North in 5A

You want to bet on that?
