Irishman Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Incredible race. I thought Lyles won watching live and the review was for 2nd and 3rd. Not sure though. I am also curious to know how many of them ran their personal best. 1 Quote

Correction.....the 7th place finisher today would have been Bronze in Tokyo. The 8th place finisher today was just .02 seconds slower than the Bronze medalist from Tokyo. Quote

I used to watch Cole run HS track meets for some invites that include both the boys and girls teams. He was so very good in high school. But, never thought I'd watch that young man win a gold medal in the Olympics and set a OR. That was simply beyond cool!! A number of Hoosiers really representing in these games!!!! Making us all proud! 1 Quote
Muda69 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 If Team Indiana were a separate nation, it would rank 12th in Olympic medal standings: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/olympics/2024/08/08/indiana-athletes-having-a-golden-summer-at-paris-olympics-cole-hocker-sarah-hildebrandt-chloe-dygert/74718687007/ Quote Featuring rare gold medals by runner Cole Hocker, cyclist Chloe Dygert and wrestler Sarah Hildebrandt, athletes from Indiana are poised to exceed large medal hauls from the previous two Olympic Games. Through Wednesday, and with four days of competition left, Indiana-connected Olympians have totaled 15 medals and six golds in Paris. That follows 19 medals at Rio de Janeiro 2016 and 20 at Tokyo 2021. If Team Indiana were a separate nation, it would rank 12th in the standings, behind Canada’s 19 medals. Canada’s population of 39 million is about six times that of Indiana. With six golds, Indiana would be tied with Canada for 11th. Notre Dame accounts for seven medals, four in fencing. Carmel accounts for four, three in swimming. The state nearly picked up another medal Thursday afternoon from Indiana University diver Carson Tyler, who finished fourth on 3-meter springboard. .... Still in the mix for individual medals are former Purdue hurdler Devynne Charlton in track and field, Mary Theisen-Lappen in weightlifting, and Mason Parris and Kayla Miracle in wrestling. Poised for medals in team sports are Notre Dame midfielder Korbin Albert in soccer; Matt Anderson and Annie Drews in men’s and women’s volleyball; the Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton, Princeton's Jackie Young and Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd in basketball. 1 Quote

But blame the guy who did not run the race or any of the heats for that matter? The 4 on the track for the final were the same 4 that ran every heat. Quote

Lyles didn’t matter in the 4x100. No reason that a country that boasts 6 of the fastest 20 men on the planet can’t get the stick around the track. Haven’t medaled in the men’s 4x100 since 2004. And I don’t hate America, Ronnie. I just have high expectations for US track and field. Distance men showed up. Throwers showed up. Vaulters showed up. Sprinters and jumpers didn’t. Quote

When you have 6 of the fastest 20 men on the planet and your closest competitor went out in the previous round, anything less that gold is a major disappointment. With or without Lyles, this is embarrassing. Edited August 9, 2024 by temptation Quote
Irishman Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 To put this in perspective… in 2016, Helen Maroulis was the first woman from the US to win an Olympic medal in wrestling… today, Helen perhaps wrestled her last match, securing a bronze medal for her third straight Olympics with a medal - putting her with the second most Olympic medals for ANY US Wrestler. And to add to just how far it has come, it is now a sanctioned sport in the IHSAA, and the NCAA is adding it at the D1 level soon. A handful of schools are even offering scholarships in anticipation of it becoming a real thing. Quote
Irishman Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Ok, first breaking should have never been a “sport” in the Olympics. I thought breaking was no longer a thing I always knew some people should never do it; myself included Seeing this qualified to GET to Paris, just how bad was the competition in the Australian trials? All that said, I dare anyone to not 😆 https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-eJFaEtlYh/?igsh=c3Fqdnd4NHpuZGh 1 Quote
