People still love to bring up the UM loss to App State nearly two decades later and I could make the argument that this season’s ND loss to NIU is worse.

That App State team won the FCS title the previous year and won it again in 2007 after beating UM…

This year’s NIU team finished 7-5 and tied for 6th in the MAC.

I don't know...it was still a loss to a FCS team.....not sure how one can polish that turd....

An FCS team that would have demolished the MAC.

Not trying to polish any turd, demons were exercised last year.

I'd rather see a one loss MAC team make the playoffs than a three loss Power Four school. If you lose three games in one season, you don't deserve the opportunity to call yourself champion. There's an intrigue factor with a one loss team no matter the conference. There is no intrigue with a three loss team.

How about losing 24-3 to a pitiful Oklahoma team?

Don't forget a 6-6 Vandy team, a game in which they were 23 point favorites.

Because it’s hilarious?

Like beauty, hilarity is in the eyes of the beholder.

It was a horrible loss. As bad as any I can remember in my 60 yrs. of following Notre Dame football. However, in terms of its effect on the playoff, it’s hard to argue it has any relevance at all. Under the current format, even if the Irish were 12-0 and ranked #1, the best they can do is host a first round game. They can never get a bye. This year, they’ll host a 1st round game. So, despite that horrible loss, they’ve still ended up in the same place they would have if they had won the game.

Thanks for making my point Bob.  Regular season is meaningless.

Hell, the conference title games aren’t much better.  I can get into the B10 championship game for $15 this weekend.  As a fan, why would I waste my money on a conference title game when I can save up for a guaranteed playoff game ticket?

Maybe ND can win their first meaningful postseason game since I was in middle school this time around.

Maybe they can. They are playing awfully well right now. But if they draw Alabama, I’m going to be praying for snow in South Bend.

And the regular season has more meaningful games right now than it ever has.

OSU/Oregon

OSU/PSU

OSU/Indiana

Georgia/Bama

Georgia/Texas

Bama/Tennessee

Georgia/Tennessee

Just a few examples of games that were billed as important in 2024 and none of them actually were as all will be in the bracket next week.

Let’s rewind to the old 4 team format…

Think about how exciting this weekend would be.  Georgia and Penn State would be playing for their postseason lives this Saturday.

I love March Madness but I’ve always liked how college football rewards the BEST team 90+% of the time…college basketball rewards the HOTTEST team.

Oregon is the only team flawless thus far.

Boring.

You’re not sure why he keeps bringing up ND’s loss to Northern Illinois? I am.

Lol, not surprised.

No disagreement there PHJ.  Its all about the brand with certain "football" schools.

In other words, some team is going to be SOL because of "brand."  I understand, but times they are a changin.!

Don’t need to feel better…team is on top right now.

Best MAC team in 2007 had 5 losses, App State won the national title by four touchdowns that year.

Only on top as a result of a cheating scandal. Wonder what else Harbaugh did behind closed doors. You have to admit, Jim screams shady to the tune of that guy named Pete. Two peas in a pod. Fun guys for sure. Likable by their players. But shady as............well, you know.

Most MAC teams would wax App State.

You’re drunk.  Still waiting on that supposed NCAA hammer to drop I assume?

He cheat at San Diego, Stanford, San Francisco and LA too?  Dude is a winner.

Plain and simple.

Beat the Buckeyes (along with Penn State, Iowa, Bama and Washington) fair and square without Stallions on staff last year and embarrassed OSU’s offense this year too.  The proof is in the pudding.

How can you hate from outside the club when you can’t even get in?

I don't hate Michigan, but I know someone who hates Notre Dame. It's pretty obvious. Your team's season is over so you're in here pissing on Notre Dame's parade. It's not working. We're pretty proud of our team. The NIU loss is completely irrelevent at this point, they're ranked #4 in the country for crying out loud.

Harbaugh is a winner, I don't deny that. But, like Pete Carroll, he's better off in the NFL where coaches, for the most part, are on a level playing field. Look, Harbaugh was desperate. He didn't turn Michigan into the title contender the alumni wanted in the timeframe they were expecting. It wasn't past him break a few rules to acheive his ultimate goal. I'm not saying he's not a good coach, but he's certainly not a Cignetti.

Wow, so much to unpack here.

Out of all of the teams remaining in contention for the title this year, I’d actually like to see Notre Dame win it.

Look, no one does it the “right way” anymore but Notre Dame is about as close as it gets.  Zero hatred in my heart after my team ran the table last year.  Two years in a row of a non-SEC team winning the championship would be gold.

If you think the amount of “cheating” that Harbaugh did is even a pinprick of what goes on in NCAA football, you’re delusional.  I notice that you conveniently ignored the data from his years in college prior to Michigan.  (Is it even POSSIBLE to “cheat” at Stanford?)

(And I am not even wasting any energy on the Cignetti comparison, lol.  It’s so asinine it’s not worthy of words.)

Definitely not delusional. If Jim Tressell is corrupt, then all coaches are corrupt. I just like dishing it back out to you.

Why isn't Cignetti worthy? Google him.

Has Cignetti ever even beaten a ranked team?
