Football Fanatic Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I think only one home team wins in week 1 which is crazy to think about. Here we go! Memorial at Jasper - Great week one matchup and debuting Jasper's new look stadium. I think Jasper can hang tough in this game if they take care of the ball, but Memorial squeezes it out by 1-2 scores. Vincennes at Bosse - The Bulldogs are no longer the threat they were last year. They still have some athletes but I don't know if they can score consistently enough to stay in games. I think the Alices win by at least a few scores even though their offense is a question mark. Mater Dei at Central - I am tempted to pick the Bears in a home upset as they will be fired up and eager to win a game. It would be great for early conference parity for it to happen. I do think Mater Dei will struggle again this year but they find a way to win this one. Harrison at Reitz - This should be the most lopsided score of the week. I think the Panthers will be a top contender again and the Warriors will have a tough year. If I heard correctly, Reitz will be missing a few key players for this one, but they still win big. GAME OF THE WEEK: Castle at North - This is a tough one to pick. I think Castle is a tier above North this year but the Huskies will be fired up at home to continue their win streak in the series. I think the Knights get enough stops to win by a few scores. Quote
TigerFan20 Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Massey Ratings: Memorial (-1) at Jasper, 51% chance of winning for the Tigers Castle at North (-6), 58% chance of winning for the Huskies Lincoln (-9) at Bosse, 65% chance of winning for the Alices Mater Dei (-29) at Central, 94% chance of winning for the Wildcats Harrison at Reitz (-37), 99% chance of winning for the Panthers 1 Quote
tango Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Memorial @ Jasper - Memorial 24-22. Going with my heart. This always such a tough Wk. 1 match-up for us. Castle @ North - Castle 28-13. I think Castle will win with McCool. Lincoln @ Bosse - Lincoln 13-0. Wagner did it all last year. Is there anyone who can fill that chasm for Bosse? Mater Dei @ Central - MD 27-8. Central will be improved, but I expect MD will be ready after what was reported as a rough scrimmage with Reitz. Harrison @ Reitz - Reitz 49 - 0. Running clock. Quote

I wasn't able to go, but was told that MD basically ran the same three plays the whole scrimmage. I wouldn't put too much stock in scrimmage results, especially since MD doesn't. 1 Quote

Reitz looks very solid though, especially on defense. Quote
TigerFan20 Posted August 20, 2024 Author Posted August 20, 2024 Castle at North is going to be a fun one to listen into. North’s OL vs Castle’s DL will be one of the key stories in the matchup. Quote

North’s OL vs Castle’s DL will be one of the key stories in the matchup. What is North bringing back? How many SIAC schools run 22 different starters? Castle has done this for a long time and I wonder if it helps or hurts? Helps because it gives good rest and lets players focus on one job. Hurts because your best athletes are only on the field half the time. Quote

Majority of their Trenches, Top receiver, RB2 with 700+ yards last season, and their LB Core. But based on my returning production numbers, they overall returned 8-9 starters. I know North likes to use their linemen as 2-way starters for their DTs. Since they did that last year against us in Week 2. Edited August 21, 2024 by TigerFan20 Quote

However, sometimes there's a player or two that simply should not leave the field unless they need a break. Quote

For those who can't make the game in Jasper, Indiana SRN will once again be streaming all memorial games this season. TigerFan20 Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 Picks: Memorial at Jasper Always a classic matchup between these 2 teams. Memorial is on a 3-game winning streak against the Wildcats, which includes them ending Jasper’s season twice. Memorial returns a bunch of players from last season’s 9-4 squad and will be a contender/favorite in the SIAC. They also return their QB from injury back in Week 4 against MD. Jasper took some hits in their offensive backfield losing their FB, but the Wildcats have been eyeing this game since last season. Jasper also opens up the season in a brand new stadium and aspirations for the SIAC crown/deeper postseason run. I have a feeling this game will go back and forth, I’m biased, so give me the Tigers by 6. Lincoln at Bosse Both teams lost their valuable QBs to graduation and some key players too. Last season, the Alices were highly underrated in their 8-4 campaign and finally broke out from the bottom of the conference. Bosse also surprised many with their speed and offensive power being the top Offense in the Conference for nearly all the season. However, the Dawgs lost Wagner to graduation, who made up most of their offensive numbers. I think I’m going with the Alices by 2 scores in the game. Mater Dei at Central Mater Dei was in some unfamiliar territory last season going 3-7, although a couple games could have gone their way. Central, on the other hand, is still looking for their first win since 2021. Can the Bears see some improvement? Mater Dei should see some improvement this season, but some questions on the offense. However, I’ll take the Wildcats by 2-3 scores. Harrison at Reitz Reitz is eyeing for a 3 peat in the Conference and eyeing to win the sectional for the first time since 2016. But took some heavy hits to graduation from last season. Harrison is trying to improve over the years, but returning 16 starters is a start for them. But, give me the Panthers in a running clock. Game of the Week: Castle at North Definitely the best matchup this week is the Knights vs the Huskies. Last year, the Huskies swept the Knights by beating them in the Sectional Championship. However, Castle has been eyeing this game since bowing out last season and wants to make a statement. As Castle enters the season being one of the early SIAC favorites returning a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball. North did take some graduation hits losing valuable players. However, the Huskies returned a majority of their college-sized line and a few other starters. Both teams will be highly energized for their matchup due to a lot at stake and will be a preview for the Sectional. I’ll take the Knights by 12. Quote

combthehair Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Thank God we are back. Castle by 10 Jasper by 3 Lincoln by a lot Mater Dei by a lot Reitz by a lot if Jasper doesn’t win it’s first game in the updated facility we have to tear it down and do it again. And that will seriously dip into our beer fund. Can’t have that. 1 Quote
