Tin Cup Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Let’s get it started. Hoping for a great game. Who can fill us in on New Pal’s team? All I know is they have destroyed everyone they’ve played so far. Quote
Just a dad Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Have New Pal’s starters played a meaningful minute of football in the second half of any of their games? How many of their starters play both ways? Quote

How many of their starters play both ways? My guess is several. Unless his model of success has changed, he used to be notorious for playing his best players (several) on both sides of the ball. That's how the 4A school competes with 5A and 6A competition. Quote
TheDoctor22 Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 New Pal has consistently proven that the strength of schedule and number of two-way starters does not matter. They are the best 4A team I've watched this season. I think Chatard will come ready to play so hoping for another entertaining game. But I think 4A is New Pal's to lose. 1 Quote

You’ve trashed New Pal and Sagarin all year and then you predict a pick em game will result in a 3 point Chatard win. I just can’t. Edited November 10, 2024 by temptation Quote

If saying New Pal isn't a Top 10 overall team means that I "trashed" them, then so be it. Great 4A program for sure, I'm just not sold that they'd beat Snider or Elkhart. Show me the receipt where I said Chatard was that much better. Edited November 10, 2024 by BTF Quote

Just a dad Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 For my money I want to see which kids perform when the pressure ramps up. Chatard has 5 wins (and 2 losses) against teams that are better than anyone New Pal has played all season. In a mistake free game for both teams, with good to great coaching staffs and athletic kids on both sides, the scales have to tilt towards the team that has had to make plays late in the 4th quarter of a physical game. Sometimes a little doubt creeping into a kids mind can cause a critical mistake. As Mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face. Roncalli punched Chatard in the face Friday night. In fact, both teams traded punches til the final whistle. Has New Pal been punched? Their schedule doesn’t say so. 28-17 Chatard 2 Quote

Just a dad Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 @temptation I would say Center Grove and Decatur Central (both top 550 teams nationally according to calpreps) were very good teams in 2018 and they handled them. 2019 they played Cathedral, Center Grove and Valpo. All top 400 teams nationally, again according to calpreps. I’d say both of those teams were challenged, took punches and were superior to some really high quality teams. This year their toughest game has been against Greenfield Central who is ranked 2812 nationally. Their opponents combined records are 57-61 Chatard has lost to Cathedral (163) and Elder (429). They have beaten Columbus North (739), Roncalli twice (805) and Brebeuff (1405). The combined records of their opponents this year is 75-47-1 There is an enormous difference between 2018/2019 New Pal and 2024 New Pal. 2019 NP opponents were 91-71. 2018 NP opponents were 83-75. I just don’t see how you can compare their 2024 team to either of those earlier teams. I’m not convinced that New Pal isn’t the underdog in this game 2 Quote

You said “punched in the mouth” originally, nothing about SOS. In 2018, they beat CG/DC by a combined score of 59-23. In 2019, they beat Cathedral, CG and Valpo by a combined score of 90-39. I am not saying that this New Pal team is on par with those teams but they’ve heard this argument before… Quote

Those were great teams, but not the kind of talent a school of 1400 can replace year after year. Those were once in a generation teams. Quote

This team has loads of talent: they returned most of the team who reached semi state last year and they have multiple players with D1 offers. I hope you’re right, I’d love to see this young Chatard team win (if only to guarantee their spot in 4A for a little longer). But just saying New Pal is at worst a very good team, and very likely a top 10-15 team in my opinion. 1 Quote

But they can't keep up with the top ten programs in 6A on a year to year basis. Not with their small enrollment. I agree, I think they are a very good team for sure. I can get on board with 15ish, but for now, that's about as high as I would give them. If they beat Chatard, I'll concede that they are a Top 15 team. 1 Quote

Yeah, if you can point directly to SOS as to why they lost 64-61 in 2015, I am all ears. That game was nuts. We will find out soon if they were once in a generation. I tend to think you are right which is why its taken them time to get back to this level. They played the 2021 state championship squad from Cathedral as well as anyone (6A Westfield and Brownsburg included) and were competitive with Roncalli (eventual state runners up in OT) in the tournament in 2022. I think SOS played a part in them finding themselves down 42-14 in the first half. The talent Snider had hit them like a ton of bricks. Once they got their bearings straight, it was game on. Quote

I've always given Kyle Ralph credit for being, arguably, the best coach in high school football. I say arguable because there are a few other coaches out there that are pretty good as well. I remember those teams from 2018-2019, not so much the 2021 team. Ralph might be the best at getting the most out of what he has. Playing your best guys on both sides of the ball, which is what he's notorious for doing, is they only way they can compete with 6A programs. Quote
JustRules Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I've seen both teams and both are very good. I wouldn't be surprised if either team wins. It should be close but momentum is huge in these games. If one teams gets on a roll or gets a couple defensive/special teams scores, it may not be as close. New Pal will be very good regardless of how strong their schedule was this year. 1 Quote
