It’s Navy Week. I’m sure sometime this week we’ll hear some people saying that this matchup is a relic of the past. In these days of multi-million $ playoff berths, why would ND play an opponent every year that will do nothing for their playoff chances? The short answer is that even today, with all that money at stake, some things are still more important. The back story is out there and easy to find. The short version is that Notre Dame owes the Navy a debt of honor that can never be fully repaid. So, if Notre Dame ever stops playing Navy, it will be because Navy made that choice. Notre Dame will always make its annual installment payment on that debt. As I said, there are places where honor is more important than playoff or TV money. I’m glad to be able to say Notre Dame is one of those places. There aren’t very many of them these days.

Love the loyalty here. When a friend helps you out, never forget. This is arguably the best story in college football.

If you’ve never seen this in person, you are missing one of the most moving sights in college football. The Notre Dame team joins Navy in singing the Navy Alma Mater to the Midshipmen section.

It was cool too to hear so much of the crowd at the end join in with Beat Army. I was not there, but you could clearly hear it on TV.

During the Brady Quinn era, saw ND do the same with Army. Very cool.

It was a win-win.

I've been lucky enough to have seen about a dozen Notre Dame/Navy games at the Stadium!  It's an emotional sight for sure!

I'm still quite surprised that the Irish covered the 30.5 spread!  I didn't realize that Navy's QB was out until gametime, but his replacement played well the first half.  The Irish defensive coaches made the necessary adjustments at halftime.  And the ND offense is tremendous at this point.  Jeremiyah Love has to be mentioned as a Heisman candidate, and maybe even get an invite to NYC.  I understand he's not a QB, but he makes Carr's job a whole lot easier.  And Jardarian Price ain't too bad either, quite a tandem!

My last regular season game was in 2006, against UCLA.  It ended with Brady Quinn and Jeff Smardjia teaming up on a winning TD with 26 seconds left.  We had seats next to the ND tunnel, and NBC interviewed the winning duo in the end zone near the tunnel.  After the TV interview, the two high fived everyone on our side of the tunnel, including myself and my buddy, Charlie!  It was a good day for the Irish!

The Navy QB was ruled out about an hour before the kick.  Announcers kept talking about it.  Upper body injury I believe.

Agreed on Love.  Too bad the OC all but forgot about him in weeks 1 and 2.

That's very cool.  When I lived out in the DC area, saw a few Navy games at the Navy Marine Corp stadium including the Air Force game.  Did see ND and Navy play the year ND won the natty with Holtz, but it was at the old Baltimore Memorial Stadium.

Lol, you're old. Your hearing and eyesight are probably too far off to determine which team hits the hardest.
