Taking the out of state games out of the equation, Carmel is winning by an average of 37+ points per game…and they’ve beaten the 2nd/3rd best team in the HCC in two of those contests…

And you think Carroll/Crown Point would be within two scores?

Nah.

I've got Westfield on equal footing with Carroll and not as good as Crown Point. Carmel beats Westfield by 24, so maybe they beat Carroll by 24. Maybe not. Carroll dismantled their only common opponent with Westfield with far more ease, so the Chargers have that going for them. But lets just say that Carroll and Westfield are equal, which they probably are. Carmel beats beats Carroll by a similar margin of 24. Now, go back to the first sentence. My prediction is Carmel over Crown Point by 14.

I think you're grossly underestimating Westfield while over estimating Crown Point. Westfield has far more talent than Crown Point. Outside of Gibbs Crown Point has taken a major step back in skill talent in comparison to the past 2 years.

Yet Crown Point continues to win games in impressive fashion. Westfield has the talent, presuming Crown Point has the coaching? Show me a game this year that suggests that Crown Point has taken a step back. Until then, Crown Point over Westfield.

I would take everyone ranked 22 or better with the exception of East Noble over Decatur Central. There is no plausible reason why you have DC ranked so high

East Noble and Decatur Central are a coin toss.

Maybe, point is DC is way overrated and has beaten nobody. Question for Temptation, who has DC beat in your top 50? How can they be above Avon who beat them head to head? Look at Avon’s schedule then look at DC’s… By the way, I really enjoy your rankings every week even if I am questioning some of them

Nobody in the Region can compete with Crown Point’s lines (OL/DL) or coaching staff.  Those advantages are negated against Westfield, Carmel, etc. They don’t have much speed at RB. They don’t have any WR’s that can dominate a secondary like Carmel or Westfield. They lost a 4 year starter at WB to the MAC and his replacement isn’t better.

Decatur Central has been rolling people (albeit not premier teams) and did so on 2-3 occasions with their backup QB as their Toledo bound signal caller was injured on the last play against Avon.

I’ll really piss off @23andCounting with this one…

Check out where Sagarin has DC.

Which top 50 team has DC beat?

Plainfield/Whiteland

Also, the only team with a halfway respectable loss to New Pal…and did so with their backup QB.

Do you really believe DC is a top 10 team in the state? You watch plenty of football, I think I know the answer…

Great, another team that plays nobody… sigh

I suppose history can attribute to rankings

you know, how DC is the defending 5a state champs

and how teams like crown point come down to Indy to lose by 3/4 touchdowns

Like Crown Point and New Pal, they’ve beaten the teams they should.

I’m not sure they’d be favored against anyone in the top 10 but could absolutely hold their own against the rest of the poll.

My opinion of course.

That just validates my opinion of the ratings. It's a fun poll and I respect Sagarin for putting it together. But there are way too many intangibles that Sagarin can't take into account. Having DC ranked #4 grossly exposes Sagarin's flaws.

Don't get upset, I never said Crown Point would beat Brownsburg or Carmel.

You’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of that Carroll win over HSE and Crown Point over Westfield.

Are any of those programs much different now than they were then?

I think you should go back and do a double take on your FW Carroll and Westfield common opponent hot take.

Common Opponent number 1:

Westfield over Homestead 35-0

FW Carroll over Homestead 49-0

Common Opponent number 2:

Westfield over Hamilton Southeastern 21-17

Hamilton Southeastern over FW Carroll 14-7

I won't make Westfield out to be the better than what they are. I will say Westfield is the only team to hold Brownsburg to 14 points in a 14-10 loss 1 week ago. Brownsburg is averaging 39 points per game so that is not something to just gloss over. That being said there is a resurging Carmel team who looks to be the likely favorite from the north what a difference when Coach Wright came in as Head Coach a 3-7 team last year sitting at 6-1 this year.

Crown Point/Penn vs Carroll will be a war, plain and simple. Unfortunately though, I think Carmel is two touchdowns better than all comers.

I appreciate you throwing Penn into this mix, but as of right now the lack of playing time from the starters and how poorly they played Friday in a full game I think I have to give CP a 14+ point nod. I don't know if our D is ready for that smoke. Especially if we cannot get to the QB.

No, but you’ve cherry picked those two examples and even cited moral victories to attempt to illustrate that the gap is close…which it isn’t.

We have 2.5 decades of data.

What I call "being competitive" and giving another team "all they can handle", you call "moral victory." You use it like it's a bad term.

But you do so while glossing over the dozens of examples in which those northern teams got mud stomped.
