Seems to be at the moment. I think the risk in firing Franklin was the hope they could land Cignetti. Everything backfired.

This is getting embarrassing. Some one tell me, seriously, why this program shouldn't go after Brian Kelly. If not, then who?

He’s radioactive and on the wrong side of 60. Part of what he did that was great at Notre Dame was to drag the administration and the program into the 21st century. He left because he was tired of fighting that battle and didn’t want to have to recruit as hard as you have to at ND. Penn State doesn’t need to change, they just need a guy like James Franklin who recruits and develops relationships with his players.

There's just no one out there. Manny Diaz is the best bet? Good grief. I'm getting on the phone, calling Kelly, and hoping the fans don't lynch me before Kelly has a chance to return Penn State to a 10-win program.

They’re in a bad spot, and I get what you’re saying. It’s hard to see the AD surviving this one, and, to me, even harder to see him surviving replacing James Franklin with a guy who wins and loses about the same, gets along with basically nobody, and isn’t interested in recruiting.

interesting take ...former Steelers all for Tomlin leaving and taking the Penn State job.  Is this even a remote possibility??

I've been saying for a long time that Mike Tomlin needs to go. They have three playoff wins in the last 14 years. This is the Steelers organization we're talking about here.

I wouldn't trust Tomlin at Penn State. If he can't win with the talent he's had in Pittsburgh, why on earth would be be trusted at Penn State. NO CHANCE of Penn State going that route.

Good grief, really? You hire Diaz and I'll hire Kelly, lol. Good luck.

Never said that would be MY choice. I’m just stating my opinion as to who THEY will choose and why it’s taking so long.  Duke is playing for a conference championship this weekend.

They needed to go all in for Hartline. Penn State is in disarray.

Looks like Hartline is off the table....accepted South Florida HC position.

That's why I was saying they shouldn't have moved off after they interviewed him. Should have taken the Dan Lanning, Marcus Freeman approach. It would be interesting to know what their plan was from the start, I assume they thought they could get to Cignetti, maybe Urban. At any rate, they overvalued their position.

I'd be extremely worried about Kelly's fire at this age. Dude has made close to $100 million and has another $54 million coming his way. Penn State literally has no incoming freshman class and I doubt Kelly would be able to drag a bunch LSU kids to the middle of Pennsylvania.

I honestly think Penn State thought they could pry Elko from A&M, bringing him home back East. I believe they made a run at Drinkwitz at Missouri as well. I'm convinced that Jimmy Sexton is purposefully sabotaging Penn State with they way they did James Franklin who is also a CAA client. At least 3 different Sexton/CAA clients have all leveraged Penn State for extensions and raises.
