I'll agree with you that it doesn't make sense to not win a state title and get moved up, but to say that it is the end all be all for Luers is ridiculous. They have proven in their conference and in playoff play that they can punch well beyond their enrollment. Obviously they are well coached and have athletes year in and year out to win. If they don't, they will be in 3A soon enough again for another go round at the 3A state title.

There are schools that are still looking for one state title to show at their school. They still put their heads down and get to work every year in hopes of it being their year. I think Luers and their fans are just getting a small taste of what most of the schools in Indiana feel every year. The odds stacked against you, how are you going to respond? Throw a fit and say it can't be done, or find a way to make it happen at the next level you have to face.

You are a passionate fan of Notre Dame from what I have seen in other threads. Did Notre Dame get cheated out of the college football playoffs? Absolutely, the second the bracket was shown and they weren't on it, Freeman had them with their heads down pushing and working already for the next year.

I'm not saying the answer is to sit around and sulk about it. I can't imagine any coach doing that. But as a fan, I can advocate for a change in the rule. I have a hard stance on this one and would defend any program regardless of where they were located. I was about to get on here and defend Merrillville as well, but without giving it much research, I'm presuming they bumped to 6A due to enrollment, not success factor points.

I appreciate your well thought out response. Your opinion is respected.

Then with that mindset from YOU, why are you okay with them staying in the SAC?

Not sure what one has to do with the other. If you ask the best programs in the state what their primary goal is, the answer is to "win state." Not "win the conference." The SAC prepares the Knights for their ultimate goal. Conference championships are fun, but the real hardware is given out on Thanksgiving weekend.

Twelve state titles...............all at the 2A level. Never won 3A. Bumping a team up without winning the title is asinine.

An absolute 100% flaw in the system. "We know you can't seem to win in 3A, but  we're bumping you up to 4A now." That's the epitome of stupidity. But hey, that's just me.

Luers absolutely should move up after destroying Knox.

So other schools have to suffer and lose good players because poor Luers didn't get treated fairly? What are the phrases the p/p schools use? Stop complaining and get better I think it is.

Couldn't have said it better myself....

"Congratulations on making it to the state title game two years in a row. We know you didn't win either time, but nice accomplishment nonetheless. We're going to bump you up one more class. Good luck to ya."

Lol

All this whining about Bishop Luer's enrollment in relation to their IHSAA football classification shows yet another flaw with a primarily enrollment based system, even one with a "success factor".

A true system of promotion and relegation is the ultimate solution.

It's not the first time it's happened. There's no issue.

It's not an issue since it's happened in the past? Not sure I follow that line of thought. I think it needs corrected. I get it that the team in question in Luers and no one will feel sorry for them. But would the same amount of posters come on here and defend the IHSAA if it were a small team in the country? I try to advocate for all without discrimination. I'm more likely to to bring these things to attention when it affects NE Indiana since that's the area I follow the most.

Its happened to North Harrison GBB.. it is what it is.

There's nothing to advocate for.. its the rule and it applies to all.

Nothing to advocate for? Good grief, you'd make one hell of a dictator. Go tell that to all the nationwide protestors. "There's nothing to advocate for!" Take a big shield with ya.

Did I miss some posts? Who was "whining" about Bishop Luer's enrollment?

I understand where @btownqbcoach1 is coming from. It's in the rules unfortunately. I don't know what you do to solve it other than nothing. You can't write in a rule that says you only move up if you have the correct amount of points and win a state title. What would happen if Luers was in 3A next year and they lose in the state championship again. Well they didn't win a state title, so we have to keep them in 3A. Process repeats, stay in 3A, process repeats...It's a slippery slope that a team like Luers is more than capable of doing. Now in that time do I think they would finally win one maybe. But let's look at it this year. Who could beat Luers in 3A North this year? Andrean? Maybe. Then get to the state championship lose to a potential team like Chatard. Same thing the following year. Eventually you have to move them up. We have the system in place for that whether it's right or wrong.

Luers needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves "we made it to state twice and didn't win either one. What do we need to change to make sure that doesn't happen again."

Soo... I give you an example of a "small team in the country" and that's still not good enough. Got it.

The nationwide protestors look like idiots, as do you.

Hopefully the answer is not poaching players.

I don't recall saying anything about enrollment. I recall saying that a team shouldn't bump up without winning their current class.

This is a formal request asking for input from the Press Secretary to the GID on this topic.

@Rodney ????

I have a feeling his solution is going to be to hell with classes. The problem is solved by having one big state playoff and one champion lol.

I don't necessarily disagree that it should take at least a state championship and then another season of regional or SS championship to advance, but these are the rules that we play by. The IHSAA clearly wanted to provide other teams opportunities to get to LOS, like it or not. AC has gone from 1A in 2023 to 3A in 2026 and I would tell our fans, as I'd tell Luers fans, to embrace the challenge. The Luers program will have to improve to meet the new competition level and I'm sure there will be some new names on the roster to help out. Fort Wayne has a big pool of talent.

Our journey is a bit different because our enrollment shifted to bottom half of 2A when we were going to bump up due to SF, so we were moving to 2A no matter what. Regardless, AC went on to win state the next year and they were a TD away from making it back to LOS this year.

Considering Andrean beat Luers last season in week 2, I think it's more than a maybe as to whether or not they could beat them. I'd argue that Andrean, AC and Eastbrook all would've competed with Luers last season in the playoffs. Different year, different teams. Who knows what would happen this coming season? AC gets their shot week 1 to open up the 2026 season.

State championships come too easy at the 2a level. You probably don't recall, but before the success factor came into play, I was a strong proponent of Luers bumping to 3a on their own accord. I came in hot and heavy on that topic and Luers faithful couldn't stand me for it. I've been a big fan of them to win their first 3a title. Still waiting.

technically 3a now in enrollment

Taking back my bet. I assumed incorrectly that Luers was in the same sectional as Leo, BD, EN, NS, and CC. You should have jumped on that one.

I'll bet you dinner at Ruth Chris that Luers doesn't survive that sectional. Wives are welcome. Probably talking $500+. Proceed with caution.

I have no idea what Luers or any other team in that sectionals has coming back, but I’ll place my order now. Thanks for dinner.
