The SIAC Thread

Recommended Posts

In my opinion north and rietz will be the most improved in siac.rietz will be the fastest team in the siac.north has some talent on the line especially super soph Benjamin brasher.they have some div 1 talent fcs talent so watch out.im not sold on jasper as to me they take a step back.super soph Brooks Thomas will be a div 1 talent .mater dei and memorial probably right 1 and 2 but I think rietz will be in the mix to.watch out for Angelo st Louis of north have a big season. My favorite wr div 1 talent is Antonio Harris of castle a junior and is special a game breaker.bosse my school so I hope we can get better more kids to come out.jaiden Thomas is pretty good for bosse to.watch out for rietz junior Caleb Utley I believe he's a div 1 talent and north Jayden Hazelwood a junior both de/ dt.i like Hayden summers wr for rietz to watch out for him . obviously Porter rode is a div 1 talent.Memorial probably has most talent ol,dl in siac with potential div 1 prospects in weinzapel,Cassidy, farmer, obviously hartig.im ready for football.

I completely agree

JR Hazelwood 6’3 330

JR Dixon 5’10 280

Soph Brasher 6’3 290

Replacing experienced players in Mooney and Hatt will hurt. But I’m sure the Huskies got players up for the challenge

Thomas, Vera, Burnett all fast players for Brunson

Jasper has proven themselves so far, if they beat Memorial in Week 1, watch out for Lewis’ Wildcats

Double digit D1 FBS/FCS prospects? Curious as to how many of the above mentioned currently have an offer besides Hartig? That would be more D1 kids than the last 10 years combined.

Leo Collins has Valparaiso but I like 2024 class in siac.both Benjamin brasher soph and Brooks Thomas are top 10 in 2025 class by Indiana preps. Porter rode is top 5 in2024 class by Indiana preps.im going to do my list of potential div 1 players on twitter.com/ snadenjr.im going to do a couple of schools each week. one of the guys that writes for Indiana preps I gave him info on a lot of siac athletes  from 2023 to 2025 class.

I see what you're saying. But unfortunately, as it pertains to the SIAC and Evansville area, there has been a lot of D1-level talent over the years that does not end up going D1. I can't speak for Snadenjr but I know when I talk about high school players/prospects I sometimes refer to them as having D1 talent even though I know there's a very real possibility they don't end up going D1.

But if you want to be more realistic about it, how many/which players currently in the SIAC have a legit chance to go D1?

Before I get to that a lot of athletes seems like aren't dm coaches with their film, like ncsasports.org that's the site that everyone on for recruiting .players have to dm coaches consistently and have a wide range of schools.i say like 50 to 100 schools they need to dm at first.some don't have Twitter either .over 125 fbs and fcs schools  so that's 250 schools in USA .Some might be grades to. Try to go higher than NAIA,div 3,div2  schools. So talent here but that's what athletes for football gotta do.really need to be on coaches radar by beginning your junior year to have a shot at going div 1. recruits need to dm coaches 8th grade , freshman year.

Not being argumentative, but who from the SIAC in recent times (say last 3-4 yrs) do you think had D1 talent that didn't go D1?

From Memorial, I would say the players we've had in recent times who had "D1 talent" (or maybe the correct description is D1 size/talent) all went D1 - Drew Hart ('18 to EKU), Michael Lindauer ('19 Cincy to SIU) & Branson Combs ('19 to SIU). We've had a lot of other players who were very good HS players, but they weren't D1 caliber players.

I think coaches and players do a great job of creating film and contacting schools/coaches.  In todays world of technology, film and contact info is readily available. The siac has a couple D1 kids some years with lots of naia and D2 kids most years.

Back in  90s a lot of athletes were going div 1.so I think there's div1 talent were 3rd largest city if new Palestine can get 2 to 4 kids to go div 1 then how the siac can't come on.

I just don’t recall a time when the siac had a lot of football players playing D1.  I think there are 5 maybe 6 right now and that seems like more than usual.

Do any of the 2023 kids listed have an offer besides Hartig?  Collins has Valpo but it’s a non athletic scholarship school.
Not to be argumentative but are these kids all being legitimately recruited or is this based on opinion looking at their skill set and or size?
The Brasher kid tried to transfer/enroll at Memorial and was told he wouldn’t even receive limited participation if he left.

I think it is opinion based on their measurables.  Very few, if any of these guys will go D1

You are right about that, measurement  play an important role now. Just look at Brock Combs, since recruiters said he needed to be 2-3 inches taller to even sniff at an offer

Those are my opinions on kids that have div 1 fcs potential.all of them ranked by Indiana preps zone except Donovan Baker and hess.

But also grades play a factor to and your attitude cuz coaches look at that. But like I said there's over 250 fbs and fcs schools combined so to me if you have that talent and measurables and persistent at dm coaches  you should have a chance to get a div 1 offer.

Not sure how much stock you can put in these rankings.  They have Herdes as the 8th QB in the class of '23, yet he completed only 41% of his throws, 1 TD and 8 Ints, and a QB rating of 32 (stats courtesy of MaxPreps).  And he was replaced in the line up by a Freshman last season.

Agree....these all have serious limitations.
