  2. Not many "solid" programs venture out n get a younger head coach either..Luers got blessed with coach k..what Bowen did at Northrop was an eye opener..if the Damon Bailey rule applies then fwcs schools may need to counter
  3. I just watched the Bloomington South vs Bloomington North game. Well, the 1st half always. North looks young and small. But South has that huge QB back and some pretty good weapons.
  4. Week 2 Matchups St. Pius at Gibson Southern (-19.5) Heritage Hills at Owensboro Apollo (+10.5) South Spencer at Eminence (-2.5) West Washington at Tell City (-14.5) Reitz vs. Tri-West (+6.5) Castle at Mater Dei (0) Central at Bosse (+7.5) Memorial at North (+17.5) Monrovia at Linton (0) Vincennes at Northview (-6.5)
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets program on right track and is hired on as the head coach. That could be a major win for the Legends. Not many people in FWA carry that much football clout than Jaylon.
  6. Bedford North Lawrence Columbus North Jeffersonville Lutheran Floyd Central

  8. Does MD have a better passing or running game? Defense supposed to be any good?
  9. Pick 'em Selections They always like to say that a team usually improves the most from game one to game two, so we shall see. I hope my selections do the same since last week wasn't a particularly good week for my picks. Bloomington North @ BNL The Cougars took it on the chin in their near shutout loss to South, 44-6. The Cougars depth right now is a problem area, and they had a few players that were walking wounded that didn't play. Having more two-way players than they would like, they can wear down in the second half. They have two pretty good running backs and some speed at the WR position, but they have a freshman QB in Fisher Pugh who showed a lot of growing pains, and he threw two pick sixes in the South game. Meanwhile, BNL outlasted Martinsville in a tight game. The Cougars new coach will start the season 0-2. Columbus East @ Columbus North It will be interesting to see Frozen Tundra's take on this game. North won their game against a Whiteland team that's been decimated by graduation and returned just one starter on defense and three starters on offense. Meanwhile, East went on the road and lost to a Mooresville team out of the solid Mid-State Conference. North returns just four starters from last season--two each on offense and defense. I believe both teams are starting new QBs. I really debated this game, and my gut tells me I should go with the Olympians, but they haven't beaten a team outside of the HHC since the 2020 season, so I'm going with the home team Bull Dogs. This is an excellent opportunity to snap that losing streak to nonconference teams for the Olympians. Jeffersonville @ Seymour Both teams went on the road and lost last week with Jeff giving up 67 points to a Lawrence Central team that could make a lot of noise this season in 6A, while the Owls lost to a so-so Greenwood team. This is a tough game for me to figure out, so I'm going with the home team Owls. New Albany @ Indianapolis Lutheran Okay, New Albany surprised pretty much everyone with their home win over Providence. Can they keep it up on the road against Lutheran that beat the Bulldogs last season by a score of 17-0 in New Albany? I say no. Whiteland @ Floyd Central It will be a game between a young Whiteland team experience-wise and a veteran FC team that's coming off a big road win last week. FC by at least three TDs providing that they don't shoot themselves in the foot like they did last season.
  10. Is that right? Well, give me your info and phone # and I’ll pass it along to Coach Bragg. We’d sure like to have your expertise and experience down here.
  11. 10-2 with just a sectional would be a disappointing season for the squads I’ve put together…
  12. I haven’t heard anything about a BNL transfer to South. I did hear about Maysen Lewis transferring, I got the pleasure to watch him play basketball. If his football skills are any close, he’ll for sure be an all state player.
  13. I tried to look it up, but a lot of articles came from last season and previous ones.
  14. Off subject, but Bloomington South has a transfer from BNL who has to sit out for the first six games, and I'm having trouble identifying his name and position. Would you know who it is? He was one of two transfers that came in this season with WR Maysen Lewis transferring in from Terre Haute South.
  15. My comment wasn't a knock on Gibson by any means, just stating the facts on Floyd. I'd bet my house Gibson, Memorial, HH, and maybe Reitz/Mater Dei would beat Floyd come tournament time. 3A schools need a few weeks to get into game shape. Larger programs have plenty of kids to rotate in with fresh legs and sometimes its too much early in the season for smaller schools.
  16. I want to see how they fare in 4a first. No doubt parents believe he may be able to assist in their kids recruiting by just knowing the right people. During the youth playoffs for a summer league, parents spoke more about north side than ever. With recent coaching changes at Northrop the legends will see talented freshman and more transfers show up. If he can get those assistants in line the city may be in trouble..
  17. Bloomington North (0-1) at BNL (1-0) BNL. I like the Stars this year. Columbus East (0-1) at Columbus North (1-0) Columbus North Jeffersonville (0-1) at Seymour (0-1) Seymour. Edge to home team. New Albany (1-0) at 2A #3/#5 Indianapolis Lutheran (1-0) New Albany. They’re a lot better. Whiteland (0-1) at 5A #6/#7 Floyd Central (1-0) Floyd. They avenge the last few Whiteland matchups. Whiteland is still a good team with a great coach though.
  18. I have long thought the league would make more money selling team packages rather than just the full league. There was a time though where you could pay a rate to watch an individual game, or maybe it was the games that day. Is that no longer an option?
  19. The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again. When NIL came to be, no one foresaw borderline NFL players going back to college … because the NIL $$ exceed the NFL’s rookie pay scale. I sincerely hope this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back … and causes someone to grab college football by the throat and shake some common sense into it. As many have observed, the current model is unsustainable.
  20. In Indiana, yup. If you love 8-man football so much why don't you start coaching it, maybe move to Oklahoma. Or is 8-man Rensselaer's "long term strategy" as it's enrollment continues to decline: https://ballotpedia.org/Rensselaer_Central_School_Corporation,_Indiana#Students Hmm, interesting. How were these arrangements structured between the school corporations?
  21. My favorite of Dolly’s. A true American treasure
  22. Gibson Southern has been a very good program for a number of years. It's early in the season, so there's plenty of opportunity for them to move up the rankings. Gibson Southern plays Heritage Hills head to head in week 6, so that will take care of itself. So don't get your panties in a bunch just because someone with no influence on the real polls or Gibson Southern's win/loss record has your favorite team lower in a set a rankings then you would have them.
  23. I agree. Although much can change as the season plays out with injuries, etc. IMO it has to be Castle just because they played a competitive opponent in Wk. 1. At this point I think its hard to gauge Reitz or Mater Dei, but we should find out a lot more this weekend.
  24. Harrell has AP, USA, and IFCA listed on his website, but the AP is still the final poll of last year. I used to have access to AP subscriptions, I might have to ask a former colleague if it is still going out.
  25. It's my understanding that his hire is just temporary until they find a full time replacement. I think Smiths investment in the program might change now that his cousin is out. He's a good replacement for now as I'm sure he wants to see this group of kids succeed since he probably had a lot to do with them coming to North Side. He's not going to abandon them. North Side can absolutely be competitive in 5A. There's talent in the halls even without the recruits. But it's going to take a coach who has a good grip on fundamentals, x's and o's, ability to teach leadership, and willingness to stick around more than a couple of years. Wealth isn't made overnight, it's built over time.
