They’re figuring out how to make better schedules despite travel difficulties.

I'm not defending any one or any team. I just like to put out my musings of WRC football. As an observer, having seen a clip of the hit, it was not blindsided. Unnecessary? Yes. And as I stated, it was flagged on the field as soon as it happened. Furthermore, ejections usually only occur in high school after the second assessed personal foul on a player or Coach. Or if the circumstances warrant an ejection (Ex- Fighting, throwing a punch, late hit, etc.) This particular block, while the result was unfortunate, didn't meet that standard. By two weeks in a row, I'm assuming you're referring to the clip put out on social media of an RP player's hit after the whistle on a kickoff? Some one already stated it was also flagged and the player was ejected. As he should have been, there's no defending that. Hardly a pattern though. To your second point, it wasn't all that long ago that RP was being drilled by the rest of the conference by an average score of 50+ to 0. Like all the other programs around the WRC have experienced, they seem to be the ones with an influx of athletes and are in the upper class of the conference, for now. As with all small school athletics, things often go in cycles. To me it's just simply RP's turn.

In a relative sense, yes. What I mean is that early on in this season, there seems to be a lot of teams that are not as strong as they usually are. For example, I ranked Cincinnati (OH) Anderson at #100 with a blowout loss to Trinity and wins over two Ohio teams. However, a poster on another site whose opinion I really respect was critical of that because he saw the Trinity game and know some folks in the Anderson program. He says the team in not that good and does not deserve a ranking. My response was that they seemed as valid in that spot as any other team not ranked that I could see. So, to answer our question, as I look around the country and have seen Brownsburg (play Rabun Gap), both seemed to substantiate their rankings.

Covington @ Fountain Central - Might end in a tie 0-0 If by 10-15 yards away from the ball carry who was on the sideline and the hit was in the middle of the field I would say you are correct. Obviously @Bear54 and @KDumbwitty are Panthers. It was in every way a blindsided, dirty and illegal hit. If the game was anywhere but RP he would've been ejected. Two weeks in a row of it too... Not all WRC teams are as blessed as the mighty Panthers and have 50+ kids on their roster. Most teams in our conference can't afford to take an athlete off the field because the drop off in talent/strength is too drastic. So what will you guys blame it on when it happens next week? My guess is that you guys are just too good and strong for the WRC. Maybe the WIC or the MIC would be a better fit. Parke Heritage @ Attica - PH wins by as much as they want. Riverton Parke @ Seeger - RP wins by as much as they want. South Vermillion @ North Vermillion - SV by a couple scores.

There was a lot of preseason hype about them being better this season than last. I am not sure we see that yet.

Week 4... Covington @ Fountain Central - Gonna be tough for both teams without their starting QBs. The Trojans had last week won. The Mustangs kept fighting after a scary situation. Word is he is gonna be fine. I've seen the hit. The block was right in front of the returner. Unnecessary? Probably. (It was flagged, also.) But not dirty or blindsided as indicated by some. (I'll just go ahead and ask the question... Why is your starting QB a coverage guy on the Punt team?) Anyways, this will be a close game. I'll take coach Earl to get his first win. 24-14 Parke Heritage @ Attica - The Ramblers came back to reality after playing a team with a pulse. I want to believe they're improved, just not seeing it yet. The Woolfs survived a scare from the Junior Visors. I don't think we can crown them just yet. That should've been a blowout. Pretty sad state of affairs in Rockville if they believe their best high school football player is an 8th grader. Anyways, they'll get to pad those passing stats this week. 41-13 Riverton Parke @ Seeger - Panther starters began to get pulled in the second quarter last week, even after the unsteady start. Two weeks in a row they've railed off 40+ points after being down early. Is this just this team's MO? Slow starts? Might get them in a bind some day. The Patriots did whatever they wanted to last week, against Attica. This week may be a different story. I think they can make it interesting against RP, but their lack of running game and dudes up front will ultimately hurt them. 48-22 South Vermillion @ North Vermillion - Good fight by the Junior Visors at Rockville last week. But the decision making needs to get better. May I suggest kicking a field goal when down by 1 in the last minutes of the 4th quarter? Falcons reminded me of their old selves fighting back and stealing one from Covington last week. Could be something brewing in Northern Vermillion county. I'm taking the home team in this one. 28-24

Castle's sample size isn't reliable. They've played the 150th toughest schedule, according to Sagarin -- so, basically a low 3A/high 2A schedule.

Kinda worried about Southridge. If the Patriots don't jump out early, I think this has the potential to be a close game. Ran this analysis on margin-of-victory: All-Time Average margin of victory: 21.5 points (regardless of winner) Average margin from HH's perspective: +13.1 points (HH-favored) When HH wins: average margin of 24.3 points When SR wins: average margin of 14.5 points Last 10 Matchups HH leads 7-3 Average margin of victory: 24.7 points (bigger blowouts recently) Average margin from HH's perspective: +9.5 points

The line play on both sides was questionable. The radio broadcast after the game said they were mostly in base schemes defensively which may explain part of it.

Are Brownsburg and Westfield deserving of their 19th and 86th rankings?

Covington vs FC - Definitely surprised on the Covington/NV game last week. Hinchee was very impressive, and Covington without their QB will struggle. I didn't get a chance to see the hit on the FC QB, but heard it was away from the play and completely unnecessary. It isn't the first time an RP player has sent a kid to the hospital on a dirty hit like this. Give me an FC trick play for the W 22-13. PH vs Attica - PH wins this by what they want, but I'm not completely sold on them yet. WRC is weak enough this year that they will win some more games, but I don't want to say they will give RP a run for their money just yet. 47-6. RP vs Seeger - May be close for the first 3 minutes, but RP will destroy Seeger up front and get to Salts all night. With Seegers lack of a running game, this will be a blow out unless Seeger can win their 1 on 1s quickly against cover 0. 54-13. SV vs NV - This will be a good battle early between the two QBs. Hinchee is showing his arm is very good, and Shryock has been a lot more involved with his legs this year. SV's running game alone will be enough to win this game, but if they figure out their passing game it wont be within 3 scores. 35-13.

These Other Schools are figuring what out ? You mention Penn's State losses , NP has made it to state 2 times in that time frame . They got 77 points hung on them in one of the games . Maybe you should be concerned with NP instead of Penn .

Nice , had to throw the last couple sentences in there, didn't you? Look at it this way , the yearly butt kicking NP will take only makes them better.

The timezone argument is such a weak argument. You do realize the timezone splits the NP district right down the middle? I'd leave my house at 6am to get to the school at 5:15am for my 5:30am practice before school then after practices ended at 5:30pm I'd hop in the car and hopefully be home by 7pm. Every day, that's just how it is and you figure it out. I'm not suggesting Penn leave the NIC in everything. But they 100% need too in football. A South Bend school hasn't beat them since 1986 (including St. Joe) and Penn is currently on a 164 game win streak against any school that is named "South Bend XXXXXX"....Their current schedule is such a waste of time for everyone involved. Go independent in football. Keep a DAC school week 1, keep Mishawaka week 2, Elkhart will have an opening in their schedule so keep them. You have Cathedral who is Independent, etc. how hard is it to make a schedule that looks like: Valpo Mishawaka Elkhart Cathedral & Bloomington South are independent Dwenger, Homestead, Snider, Carroll, New Palestine, have 5 non-con openings Roncalli, Chatard, East Central have 6 non-con openings Hobart, Lowell, Andrean, all have a non-con opening you have Michigan schools, you have Ohio schools, you have Chicagoland schools These other schools are figuring it out, why can't Penn? Fact is Penn hasn't won state in 25 football seasons and in their 4 trips to Indy since then the scores have been 7-57, 0-54, 16-28, 14-63 against the big boys of Indy. What does Penn have to lose?
