Wabash River Conference Week 1
WRC123 replied to Donnie Baker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Three very good games this week with the potential of a fourth. @ThePrince we'll see how you're feeling after week 1 😂 Attica at Faith Christian - I've heard a lot about both teams recently and that makes me lean towards Faith. Attica will be in this one the first half but after that I see Faith Christian pulling away. 30-20 Carroll at Seeger - I believe Carroll is returning most of their team that went 7-4 last year. Their schedule is tougher than Seeger's so I'm picking Carroll. Plus I've heard Carroll qb is the real deal. I think Seeger will keep it close and I also think they are the second best team in the WRC. 35-20 Carroll. Covington at Tri County - Covington wins big. I agree that it would be nice to replace this game with someone a little tougher but I also see it from the other side as well. Easy week 1 match ups are nice too. Crawfordsville at Parke Heritage - All PH here. Cville lost a lot from last years team and PH just reloaded. I look for them to dominate the whole game in cruise to a week 1 win. 42-21 North Central at North Vermillion - NC is going to score a lot of points this year. This head coach knows what he's doing. NC wins big 54-12 Riverton Parke - Linton at Rose Hulman - I LOVE THIS MATCH UP. Two teams that will line them up and say were bigger and stronger and were going to run it down your throats. I've heard the kid playing qb for RP is "electric" They've been doing a little spread with him and that makes them even more dangerous. I think this is the year for RP. I know their community is even closer after everything they have been through the past couple of months. RP wins 30-21 Southmont at Fountain Central - This is one I'm not too sure about. Both teams graduated a lot of key players last year. Southmont is young but still big and physical. I went to the FC scrimmage last week and was not impressed. Hoping that was just an off night for the Mustangs and they can keep with one close. I'll take the Mounties barely beating out FC. 28-22 West Vigo at South Vermillion - This game will be close. WV has their guy in Coach Crabtree and he will get the program rolling in the right direction. It may take a couple of years but I'm going to assume he has some studs out there right now. SV will be better. They might have the second best backfield in the conference (behind RP). I'll take WV only because of Crabtree 28-14. -

Actually, if you look at that list, everyone of those teams is a pretty darn good program. Looking at some of the teams that were left off makes you realize how strong football in Indiana really is. The Carroll vs Hamilton Southeastern game really intrigues me. It will go a long way in determining whether the north will be a contender or a pretender in 6A. The Week 1 slate is off the charts throughout the state. I'm not sure I can ever remember a week where there were so many marquee matchups on tap. -

We have used both for home and away. Depends on the uniform combination and what helmet color the other team is wearing. -
Heritage Hills (0-0) @ South Spencer (0-0) This is the 56th meeting between Heritage Hills and South Spencer. HISTORY OF THE MATCHUP The Patriots lead the overall series 43-12. The 12 wins that South Spencer has over Heritage Hills is second to Southridge for the most wins of any opponent against the Patriots. South Spencer is one of only three teams that have been on the Patriot football schedule at least once, every year, since their inaugural season in 1972. Like many of the Patriot's opponents, the Rebels dominated the Patriots in the early days of the series winning 5 of the first 7 meetings. The Patriots went on to win 4 of the next 5 games to tie the series up at 6-6. The Rebels would regain the series lead 7-6 with an overtime win in 1984 and the series would remain tightly contested through the first 21 meetings. After a Rebel win in 1991, the Patriots led the series by a slim 11-10 margin. After that loss the Patriots won the next 19 meetings before the Rebels ended the streak with a 14-0 win in 2011. The Patriots have won 13 out of the last 14 games since the loss in 2011. Knox @ North Judson- Jays catch a few breaks with Knox figuring out their offensive identity post their Mr Football era. 28-14 South Central @ Wheeler- Wheeler seems to be getting close to their late 2000s era of decent football teams. 35-7 LaVille @Triton- LaVille with a hard hitting win in week 1. 21-0 Central Noble @ Culver- Cavs pull out the win. 22-20 Caston @ Whitko- Is this the year Caston makes a run at the top 3? Early blowout could tell us here. 35-14 West Central @ Winamac- Only bc they are returning their coach. 20-12 Northfield @ North Miami- Warriors won't be as tough but still handle Northfield 26-6 Pioneer @ Lewis Cass- Pioneer starting a freshmen at qb? Lot of replacements from last year but Panthers find their groove in second half and pull away. 28-13

You realize banks have had night deposit boxes since forever right? My guess is most schools who have a random 30-40K laying around all weekend probably have a safe as well. I’m sorry man, as a Seymour local, who spends a fair amount of time at athletic events, and being privy to some of the inner workings of the myriad of tournaments SHS hosts, I can assure you it’s not that complicated to handle cash.

It would be interesting to compare other male sports at the schools that are struggling in football to see if they struggle to field full teams in other sports? A couple of thoughts for low numbers. It has been said that many kids are focusing on one sport. Maybe some of the college coaching legends should talk to the single sport athletes and tell them that they would sign a multi-sport athlete before a single sport athlete. Urban Meyer and I believe Nick Saban have both said that they prefer a 2-3 sport athlete than a football only athlete. Another reason for low numbers could be that kids are tired of having losing seasons every year. It would be interesting to see how often there is a coaching change at the schools that are struggling with numbers? The schools that seem to have great numbers every year are schools that have had long-term coaches and/or promote from within.

Glad you are doing the poll in Temp’s absence. Gives us all something to talk about. Just make sure that 24 of the 25 teams in the poll are Indy based… Rest of the state should be playing flag football -
