Yep, and it works. ND still needs to hold its head high. They, along with Northwestern, are prestigious top 10 universities that simply ran into football factories who are posing as universities. The gap from the top three to everyone else is humongous. With the early signing day in the rear view mirror, let’s take a look. Number of 5 stars on the active roster: Ohio State - 14 Alabama - 12 Clemson - 11 Notre Dame - 2 Stars aren’t everything, but in this case they don’t lie.

Carson has never gotten too cool to hang out with the younger players. He has been a big influence on some kids who were being bullied and others who teachers were struggling to reach. He frequented the fields for practices and games. I think he knew he was a rockstar to those kids but he never let it go to his head. He's just a big tender-hearted kid...off the field.

Read the article last night. LOVE it. What a great kid. The coach is great. Sounds like the community is great too. I had a HUGE take away..... The section where a teacher would contact Coach Moore if their student was having a tough go. Coach Moore would then contact Carson (in this case) and he would reach out to the youngster. As adults, we tend to forget just how BIG of an impact these young men have on the youth. I know there was A LOT of great information in this article, but as a teacher and former coach, this made my day. Well done Carson and family. Well done Coach Moore. Well done CG community.

Bite your tongue. From a selfish perspective, I'd like to see how far he can take the program. He's got a strong freshman class that played Westfield's freshman to a 28-21 loss. Word on the street is that Westfield's stock is going to be improving in the coming years, so I think that bodes well for Harrison in comparison. Lafayette area's already lost a good coach to the MIC when Kevin O'Shea left LCC for North Central. I'd hate to see the area lose another good coach.

The new coach of the Illini is the former Wisconsin coach, Brett Bielema. This is a very interesting hire. He's a B1G guy, originally from Illinois, played at Iowa, coached at Wisconsin. I think this is a terrific hire.

There’s a split in the community about whether downgrading from an HHC schedule is the right thing to do. Some feel the HHC has passed up the rural/small town makeup it used to have and is becoming too big for a small community like Jennings County. The fear is that they won’t be able to compete and will continue to lose athletes and fan support. The other school of thought is that leaving is the easy way out and admitting failure. These folks also believe they should stay in the HHC because they helped found it. They also believe there is potential to compete in the HHC. If Jennings County were to leave the HHC, the EIAC would be the preferred destination. The communities are small and/or rural. The schools are in the 3A/4A range which is closer in size to JC. Madison would prefer to wind up there as well but there aren’t any spots available at the moment. The EIAC doesn’t have any departing members to replace and doesn’t seem to be intending to expand. Jennings County would prefer to join along with Madison as part of a package deal. The official debate of leaving or staying in the HHC took place 2-3 years ago now. My understanding is that they decided to stay because a door wasn’t open elsewhere, but that the debate could resume if a door did eventually open up. It’ll be interesting to see if the football coach and athletic director have any say in the matter. Both are newer. The football coach was raised in JC and played football there but had left for awhile for college, the military, and being an assistant coach for a few schools in the Indy area. The AD is from the Chicago area and has no ties to JC. Maybe the outside influences these two have sway the decision and maybe they don’t. Time will tell.

Excellent post. In terms of football only, I don't know how the other schools traveled, I know South Bend schools usually don't travel well. I also know other teams don't travel well to South Bend, except Penn. For basketball, South Bend schools traveled well within South Bend and probably Mishawaka, but not anywhere else (Maybe to Michigan City). Didn't get a lot of travel from out of town teams. Mishawaka will thrive in the NLC. The future of the NIC is for another thread.
