  1. As a whiting oiler I’m scared the libs might go after us because of climate change, fossil fuel, pand carbon and all that crap

  2. Redskins I'll give you. Perfectly fine with that getting removed, that was the only derogatory one. Braves/Indians mascots should never be removed... there is nothing derogatory there. If so.... absolutely Irish, Quakers, etc need to be removed as they are just as offensive, as Braves/Indians are. Pendleton Heights? yeah you're giving your mascot name back too. Yankess+Texans, nope you gotta give yours up, as well. Cowboys.. you too. THE BOSTON CELTICS!! Can't have that. But we do live in a society that found Aunt Jemima+Uncle Ben offensive lol ... Land O Lakes butter--- HELL NO!!! Crazy, soft times we live in. Same! And the Nebraska Cornhuskers!! don't get me started there. The Floyd Central Highlanders, Minnesota Vikings are a few that sticks in my crawl.

  5. I heard the NN Spartans were originally supposed to be the Yankees, but they backed off and settled for Spartans. I do understand the use of Indians if it is cartoonish or disparaging can be offensive, and Redskins is going a bit far. I would personally be more offended being called a Minuteman. That could get you a bad reputation!

  6. Watch for the Orwellian statements that will be coming soon about how your taxes were "lowered." The Indiana lawmakers just sent a bill to the governor to provide "property tax relief." Customer: "Hey, this hamburger costs $10. Just yesterday, it was $5." Seller: "Tell you what I'm going to do, just for you. I'm going to lower that price down to $7.50 and help you out a bit." Customer: "Gee mister, that's sure swell of you ... looking out for me like that." Seller: "No problem. Be sure to tell your friends how much we care about the customer." Customer: "Sure will mister. Thanks a lot." Seller: "See you later. *in a whisper* Sucker." Customer: "What was that?" Seller: "Oh nothing. See you tomorrow. Tell your friends." As short a time ago as February, the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a ‘categorical pledge’ were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during 1984. Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grammes to twenty at the end of the present week. All that was needed was to substitute for the original promise a warning that it would probably be necessary to reduce the ration at some time in April. ... It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours?… Was he, then, ALONE in the possession of a memory? 1984 - George Orwell

  7. True, and I def saw that as a plus when we moved here from Indiana 17 years ago. But boy the last few years they've really stuck it to us down here with property taxes! My last three tax appraisals combined have not quite tripled the value of my home. If it weren't for my homestead exemption, I would be in a bad place. Whats the property tax situation like up there?

  9. Different in my opinion. I'm not aware of the Catholic Church running assimilation schools (under the guise of missions) in Ireland the same way they did in North America and other places that contributed to the persecution of native people (culture, language, etc.). Plus, ND's mascot is the leprechaun (a fairy in Irish folklore) and not a depiction of a person from Ireland. Indian mascots are often based on inaccurate, derogatory and/or stereotypical representations. That's my soapbox for the day...

  10. My brother-in-law played for Mesquite Poteet. My wife is a product of North Mesquite High School back in the days of the power districts. They were a lot like Carmel is today where they didn't, at the time, split their schools, so they ran roughshod over big school football in the state. Even when Mesquite finally split off to create North Mesquite, the likes of Plano, Richardson, Highland Park, and Mesquite/North Mesquite had huge bodies of kids to select stellar teams from.

  12. I am not sure if the Hoosier makes sense for the Berries but the Berries make sense for the Hoosier. Western is 4A, Logansport is 4A, and West Lafayette is more 4A than both of them. I know they are 3A. Heights is a strong 3A roster wise and have physical kids that can handle 4A competition. I think this makes really good sense for the Hoosier. Does it make good sense for the Berries? They might call it an even trade off with the exception of the loss of Jeff on their schedule. Not sure how the Logan/Peru game figures in, but maybe Logan can keep Jeff on their schedule.

  13. Considering all sports, wouldn't Loganstport dominate most of the current HC? No they will not- they haven't won a basketball sectional game since 2014 I believe- they will at least be competitive in new conference but dominate? No way- wrestling not what it used to be-soccer, track, cross country, swimming will just be a competitor- girls sports just another competitor- baseball is their thing at Logan- always talented-always competitive- the new conference won't be a pushover though with very strong programs at Western/NW It's a good move geographically for Logan, but they won't dominate this conference any more than they did the NCC- they are a 4A school with 2 or 3A athletes other than baseball.

  14. With some of the history between Catholic institutions and Native Americans, this makes sense.

  15. When I first saw this I thought it was for Poteet HS in Mesquite, TX (Dallas suburb). I didn't realize there was a town by that name, as well. Learned something new today already! Only ~2 hours from the coast to Corpus; South Padre's a little farther, but both are good places for a vacay. Looks like a decent program. Last 3 seasons winning records, looks like they been going 1 or 2 round into playoffs.

  16. Yup. Now moving forward a year with CHS... THAT'S a hell of road schedule to through. I am not at all sure what Penn is doing. Kinda out of my perspective...I have games there, but haven't had any real insights into what they should/shouldn't do inside or outside of their conference (or even if they will be in one).

  17. Logansport has great athletic facilities and is a good fit from a geography standpoint. Looks like an hour or so to their furthest opponent. Teams who haven't played hoops in the Berry Bowl is a pretty cool experience, good move for Logan IMO.

  18. Let’s stop all this small talk and get real. Call your state representative and let’s change the name of the state from Indiana to Indigenia.

  19. Hopefully not. The Catholic Church doesn't have a great track record with indigenous peoples.

  20. Not likely that the TRC will bring anyone else in. For whatever reason the conference likes the idea of having 10 teams in it. No more no less.
