  1. This study was published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Neurology. That gives it a lot of credibility. Chronic Traumatic Encephelopathy (CTE) in football has become one of the biggest issues they face after finishing their careers. However, a recent study from JAMA Neurology suggests that former high school football players do not face an enhanced risk. The findings from the study (which took on 3,904 men with an average age of 64.4 years) read as such:The study used data from the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, with players matched between March 1 and July 1, 2017. Controlled variables included adolescent IQ, family background, and educational level. This included three types of studied subjects: all controls, those who played a noncollision sport, and those who did not play any sport. So for those who attended high school 60 years ago, playing football didn’t expose itself as a major risk factor for later-life cognitive impairment or depression that comes with CTE. Despite the game being quite different today with bigger, faster, and stronger athletes, it still found that the risk today is similar as it was then. The study also stated that, “cognitive and depression outcomes later in life were found to be similar for high school football players and their nonplaying counterparts.” That’s got to be even more comforting knowing that it’s as if they never played at all. For players that have taken their careers to the next level, and the professional level, this isn’t necessarily encouraging. However, there has to be some relief for people who may have questioned what football may have done to their bodies just from playing high school ball. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/7/11/15952184/cte-study-wisconsin-high-school-football

  2. Just finished binge watching the first season on the new series The Boys on Amazon Prime video. Really enjoyed it, the setting and story is an interesting twist on your generic superhero tropes. It is based on a comic books series of the same name first published in 2006. May try and track the comics down as well. Highly recommended.

  3. Not quite sure that's how I would have put any school joining a conference. *Did North Judson-San Pierre 'slum' when asked to join the Hoosier North? *Is Mishawaka talking about the Northern Lakes as a 'slum'? I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say just a poor choice of wording .... I would think that Bremen joining the HNAC would be a good move for everyone. The travel is not ideal for the northern portion, but the competition in a lot of sports is pretty good. Let's take a look at the various conference sports offered .... Pioneer has run the race in football ... LaVille in baseball ... Pioneer, Winamac, and Knox have led softball ... boys basketball has had several teams at the top since the conference inception ... girls basketball can say the same ... LaVille in boys soccer ... there are not enough schools in girls soccer to have a conference, so Bremen would help ... Bremen also has swimming, cross country, tennis, and volleyball, which gives the HNAC more depth across the board. I would think it would be advantageous for everyone to add someone like Bremen. I will add, however, that from what I hear, no formal invitation has been extended to anyone to expand the HNAC. Eight is a strong balance for the conference. Unlikely to increase to nine or even 10. But, as we have read in this threat, Never Say Never. As always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  4. I expected (and still do) that Campbell will be a starter. If he isn't, I still expect him to play a prominent role in the offense. Ballard and Reich both have huge man crushes on him. Today at camp he had a great day. For all of the doubters who said he can't run a route tree, they should be watching clips of him at camp. Dude is going to quickly become a fan favorite. You were wise to pick him up. Another dude having a good camp (so far) is Funchess. I hear he's having a blast and playing great. Funny what a change of scenery can do for a guy's career. Just ask Ebron. I also hear that Autry is a one man wrecking crew on the D line in camp. With Houston getting pressure on the outside and Autry on the inside, we may finally have a great D line this year. Lots of high expectations out of Indy this season. I believe the first 5 games are going to say a lot about how good they are having to play the Chargers in week one and the Chiefs in week 5.

  5. I would have 1-3 the same. 4 down to 6, 7 to 4 & 8 to 7 and 6 to 8.

  6. My mother at some point during my and my siblings upbringing uttered all those quotes from the right, and she didn't live in a nursing home. What exactly is your point Dante? That parents who emphasize raising their children to know right from wrong, accepting personal responsibility for their actions and the freedom that comes with such responsibility are to be relegated to the proverbial scrap heap?
