  1. My post on the Super Bowl 3 years ago today. 🤣😂 Oh God of the Gridiron, today is Your Day. First, we give thanks for last weekend’s great victory, as your mighty right arm TB12 carried your justice into the den of iniquity that is Lame-Bow, and struck down the dog-ass Pack and their evil sorcerer, A-rog. We ask that, in your infinite mercy, you get some tickets for A-rog... so that he can get back to the Super Bowl once more in his career. But now, Lord, we come to you with an even greater ask. The upstart Mahomey, and his henchmen, led by the infamous Andy “Not so thin as a” Reed, invade your sacred ground in Tampa. Oh Lord, let your ambassador in this world, TB12, once again call down the lightning on the young pretender, so as to instruct him in your most important Commandment: THOU SHALT HUMBLE THYSELF BEFORE BRADY!!! You created the football world in only 7 glorious days. Now we implore you to bless your faithful champion, TB12, with his 7th ring, symbolizing the triumph of football good over football “I’m in a hurry to be the greatest of all time.” Amen.

  2. One of the things I like about the Super Bowl is the proliferation of creative “prop bets,” many of which are only distantly related to football. Then, I thought the people on the GID are just as creative as whoever it is that comes up with those goofy prop bets. So, let’s hear some imaginative prop bets for Sunday. I’ll start. Over/under on the number of times Taylor Swift is shown embracing Travis’ mother: 3.5 Over/under on the number of times Mahomes is compared to Tom Brady: 2.5 Over/under on the number of times Andy Reid and hamburgers/cheeseburgers are mentioned in the same sentence: 0.5

  4. For years all I heard over here in Elkhart was the excuse for the lack of success in athletics was the split to 2 high schools. Now that we are back to 1 high school records have only gotten worse.

  6. As part of a renovation and addition Westfield High School, which was completed several years ago, a new weight room was built, along with a renovation of the gym. A new aquatic center was also built as part of a partnership with the new Westfield YMCA. Currently 10 new outdoor tennis courts are under construction. Growing school districts need to keep up their facilities.

  7. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/indiana/rankings Speedway has less than 2,000. Now let's look at the schools once you get pass the wealthy suburbs of Indy. What I see is Heritage Hills, Cascade, Tell City, Eastern, Northwestern, Manchester, North Putnam, Argos... The list goes on. Where is Warren? Lawrence Central? Jeff? Elkhart? I mean Elkhart just consolidated... One would think they should be at the top of the list!!! I have taught/coached at a lot of schools. Some were in a wealthy community, some in a poor community. Some were large corporations and others were small. There are a lot of factors that go into a school corporation being successful academically. One of the last factors would be school corporation size. The most important would be parent involvement. So how about we start by fixing that.

  8. On a sidebar, Coach Felix Chambers took the reigns of the Southwood Football program in 1969. Until the hiring of Coach Tyree, all coaches following Coach Chambers were either assistants or had played for Mr. Chambers. At the conclusion of the '23 season, the coaching tree lasted 53 years!! Welcome to Southwood Coach Tyree!

  9. @Muda69 Yes, I read the Ball State study (located here for reference: https://www.indianachamber.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/School-Corp-Size-2024.pdf) The conclusion was summarized in one sentence: "Increasing school corporation size to around 2,000 students has the potential to reduce per pupil cost and free up funds for classroom instruction of other purposes which could improve the educational outcomes of students." It is important to note that they use aggregated data to perform this study and they do not dive deeper into each school corporation to address potential outlier conditions. For example, the number of foreign exchange students, the number of special education students and those with an IEP. All these items (and more) can affect graduation rate or test scores. I think the study provides insight, but should be expanded to provide real insight to the unique qualities at all schools. As a reminder, these are children, not numbers and each child will flourish in different settings. I think my main point is that I would caution consolidation based on aggregate data and leave this up to the communities where the children and their parents live.
