HNAC Week #1

No disrespect intended. Didn't realize you were in that sectional. 🤐 Having done the Andrean/Cass Regional, and knowing what they have coming back, that's going to be quite a hill to climb. Good Luck! -

100% agree If you're going to run into Andrean, in the tournament, this will be a good game to see where you are. -
List of canceled and newly scheduled games
SL816 replied to Rudy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Recently notified that Highland @Griffith is cancelled for next week. No scrimmage tonight, for our crew, and down to 6 regular season games. Very frustrating. -
I would say that's far beyond the game officials jurisdiction. That's a personal team/school policy that they need to administer. Just my opinion.

Saw it on Region Sports. 4-1 vote by the school board. -
Suspended or cancelled season

Yeah, but that new scoreboard will look good...…….. -
Definitely good to hear from you tonight and has been enjoyable to sit in on meetings from around the state. Something good has come from a tough situation.

Schools Pausing or Cancelled the Fall

Serious question, why? What happens between now and March 1st that changes anything? If we all shelter until then, what have we changed? -
Schools Pausing or Cancelled the Fall
SL816 replied to Football Guru 25's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Blind? I'm not blind to anything. And I don't think any of us want to see an end to high school sports, but I do think there are people that are looking to finally be right about something...…….. -

Schedules and Nightmares

Has the IHSAA put out anything that eliminates the minimum number of games stipulation? I saw @Bobref mention the 4 game minimum. I participated in a Zoom meeting, for an association that I'm not a member of, last week, and the guest speaker was Mr. Faulkens. This question came up and I could've sworn he said there would be no minimum to play in the tournament. Apologies if I mis-heard. On a side note, I do appreciate all of the associations that are holding on-line meetings. It's good to hear from officials in other parts of the state...…..and the refreshments are much better at home. -
Football Season Options
SL816 replied to from_the_sidelines007's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Like the NBA player that left and went to a strip joint? But they support a Marxist organization, so that's cool to you...... -
In the various meetings I have attended, I haven't heard anything different for this year. I would guess that masks will be a personal preference. Not much they can do as far as social distancing. When I worked the H, I made sure they were able to work unimpeded.
-
The only option I know of, besides a regular whistle, is the handheld electronic whistle. Some officials I know have purchased them in anticipation of possibly being required to wear a mask. Our crew will be using regular whistles. If masks are ever required, I know I won't be working.

October 14, 2016 - Kickoff. Runner is hit by multiple defenders. When the pile hits the ground, I blow the whistle. Next thing I know, another R player picks up the ball and runs about 50 yards before he is tackled. As the HL, I get to feel the eyes of R's coach burning through me, as I give him his options, one of which is not getting the ball at the other end of the field. Needless to say, those plays stay with you. 😟

Does baseball, or any of the sports that expand the number of officials in the tournament, require special certification, on those mechanics, to qualify for the tournament? Or are those mechanics covered in the testing process? I ask, because speaking to a Florida official a few years ago, I was told that they go from 5 to 7 as soon as the playoffs start. They, of course, can do that because they have a (sensitive word coming.....) qualifier for their tournament. In order to work the tournament, they have to be certified in 7 man mechanics.
