One would hope with the new CDC update that was released today, that this type of complete overreaction will end soon. If schools are actually paying attention that is.

No, they are being idiotic. That's not "erring on the side of caution". That's ignoring facts, ignoring data and not being flexible enough to understand, that this sort of policy will NEVER allow people to return to any form of normalcy. Because they can always use the "err on the side of caution" routine for as long as they want. Even when its very clear, there is no issue at all in Hancock County. Has never been an issue at all in Hancock County and all the metrics that are supposed to be important, are about as low as they can possibly be already. When you are averaging 1/2 of a hospitalization per day, for going on 2 straight months, its way past time to end the quarantining of healthy people schtick. Its not March anymore. Otherwise, why even open schools or let high school athletics start in the first place? This kind of policy will NEVER allow either to work or go on for very long.

Yes with those idiotic protocols in place (even if you test negative, people who aren't sick and likely never will be still have to sit out 14 days), hard to see how much is going to get accomplished in the county this year in any sport. And just for reference, Hancock County is averaging 7 new cases per day. And has been under 10 per day since late July. % positive rate is low in the 5-6% range and been there for months. In the last 30 days, a grand total of 17 people, in the entire county, have been admitted to the hospital. 5 total deaths in the entire county since July 1st. Complete lunacy.

Incredibly stupid. But then again much of this is complete idiocy to begin with. If both people are "masked up", then what's the issue? If that's so damn important to "keep everyone safe" and people are doing what they've been told and its still not enough, then what are we doing?? Or are masks just a complete waste of time, which most of us already know to begin with. These state and county health departments are run by morons to begin with.

Which the CDC came out and said a few weeks ago isn't very prevalent. And the WHO said the same thing months ago. If asymptomatic spread isn't much of a thing, then it would blow the whole hysteria out of the water in 10 minutes.

Yes how dare they look at actual stats that show influenza is much more dangerous to kids then Covid 19. We need more people making decisions listening to CNN experts and Indy Star columnists instead.

Yes, lets continue to cancel every damn thing in life. Its fine to play a week later against another team. But not a week earlier in a scrimmage. The incredible weakness of this country is staggering right now.

Enough of the "long term effects" BS from something we just starting dealing with 6 months ago. Its these kinds of fear porn stories why we are being paralyzed by something we shouldn't be anymore.

There is literally NOTHING we could have done or can do, to stop a virus from naturally spreading. Lockdowns only prolong the agony, and create more serious issues short-term and long-term then they do fix anything. Look at places like Australia and Japan and Isreal that supposedly did things "right" by locking everyone into their homes for months. The virus doesn't go away when you are allowed to venture out. It appears to be very seasonal and works its way through the population in given places, however it pleases and at a similar timeframe. When its your time to have the virus, you have it and there is nothing you can do to stop that. Masks or no masks make ZERO difference keeping the virus from doing what it naturally is going to do. The reason why college football and high school football and literally everything else gets shut down or never gets started in the first place is because we are being governed by fear and we have people making decisions who literally have no idea what they are doing. And waiting for and thinking a vaccine will make everything right is about as foolish as it gets. Although with as delusional many people are in this country now, giving them Flintstone vitamins and telling them this will help you, might be good enough.

Doing all of those guidelines, still isn't enough for some people. Look to what just happened with the Indy 500 for example. They had ALL of those plans in place and had agreements with the state and still got the rug pulled out from under them. Because IU Health decided to throw some weight around at the very last minute. There are a lot of people, suddenly with a lot of power, who don't really like sports. Don't like the attention they get. Don't like the money they generate. And using this virus is a way to bring sports down. Which we are seeing happen right in front of our eyes everyday.

Yes their 7 day rolling average is a grand total of 50 per day. Which is the lowest that average has been since June 28th.

Coming down with what? 5 of the 13 Cardinals that tested positive have no symptoms. The other 8 have "very minor symptoms" (in other words...they have a cold). The other 28 teams have had zero issues.

Of course he did. People who have no idea what they are doing, say idiotic things like that and think it makes great sense. Adams County is only testing about 20 people per day (its a small county so that's not a big deal for that low a number; most small population counties without literally any cases or anyone in a hospital are the same) so all it would literally take is one more positive case to move the rolling average up. And give this moron the chance to wield more power. But, its OK. Its just high school sports. I'm sure these schools have plenty of other ways to pay for stuff without the revenue they receive from football games. And just because your football season or volleyball season are basically ruined to the point that it doesn't even feel like a high school sport anymore, that's no biggie. You have so many other years in life to play high school sports with kids you grew up with.

If he does, there is going to be a revolt in that state.

Yes its a hellscape of Covid up there. 81 total cases in 5 months. That's an average of 1/2 a case a day. Current positive rate is 2.9%. These schools athletic budgets cannot function making literally no money from football gates. Football, not basketball, pays the freight at the vast majority of schools. For all sports. Other sports will be cut. Coaches will not get paid. Kids get screwed...again. Don't be surprised if football gets dumped at many schools next year. No money for it and kids interest in football will continue to dwindle, making participation less and less. But just sit back and take it. Continue to let people who have no idea what they are doing and are using no justifiable science or data to make decisions, continue to do so. And then wonder what the hell happened to our way of life.

Then there will never be a sport played this year in Ohio. Which is what their clown governor probably wants anyway. MLB just had at least 3 false positives (out of the 40 or so that tested positive). Its estimated that between 5-10% of all tests are inaccurate. Its just completely pathetic what our country has turned into in such a short period of time. Very, very sad.

Just to show how completely idiotic this decision is... Adams County has a grand total of 81 cases. Total. In 5 months. Their current % positive rate is 2.9%. They have had a grand total of 2 deaths. One in early April and one in mid July. Their in-over-his-head health officer for the county, Micheal Ainsworth had this gem of a comment in the story... The only "light at the end of the tunnel" is a train of stupidity rolling over the top of us that is ruining society.

Because head coaches who have success at catholic schools tend to gravitate to other catholic schools......once they've found out how hard it is to win at a public school.

Just another reason why "The Mercy Rule" is no good. Thinking of all of these silly scenarios makes a mockery of the game. Teams and players are only guaranteed 10 games a year. That's fewer games then basketball plays. Fewer games then soccer plays. Fewer games then volleyball plays. Fewer games then literally every other team sport plays. And we think its a good thing for players to get less opportunity to play? For what end? So that referees and former band teacher administrators can get home earlier on Friday night? I was at a game last season where the running clock was enacted and a team ran 1 offensive play in the 4th quarter. Which means that the varsity team played 75% of a game and the backups/JV/freshmen got zero playing time. In a day and age when more and more schools don't even field a JV team let alone a true freshmen team. In a day-and-age when football participation is already down. Good luck getting sophomores and freshmen to come out to play football when the entirety of their football experience is getting the feces kicked out of them in practice each week. Again the whole "mercy rule" thing was a complete overreaction by old people, many of whom don't understand athletics who think they know better then high school coaches on how to manage a game and how to run their teams. Because we all know it really matters to most 17 year olds that they only got beat 42-0 instead of 56-0. I'm sure because of our mercy rule, we helped those poor kids sleep better knowing they only lost by 42.

We'll have to see how the high school free agency period goes and what players sign with new teams for 2020.

Outside of Ben Davis, Warren Central, Carmel and Center Grove nobody else in 6A is "competing" in 6A either. Should the other 28 schools in 6A all merge with somebody too?

Especially when Decatur Central could be about ready for a serious downturn from where they've been in recent years.
