National Top 100 - September 12
temptation replied to whiteshoes's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Obviously not buying the moral victory rhetoric from BD/IMG huh? -
I sometimes think (and I am guilty of this in my rankings too) many coaches fall into the "name recognition" trap. Teams get the benefit of the doubt often times based on history which is sort of unfair. I also think that can occur in the other direction in terms of biases. After all though, it is just fun discussion. Not life or death.
-
Referring solely to statewide rankings, particularly at the 5A/6A level. Both of these teams could find themselves at LOS on Thanksgiving weekend in the state’s two largest classes.
-
Roncalli’s demise (especially after what Chatard did this weekend) has been greatly exaggerated in my opinion.
-
Honestly (with a straight face) when, in your opinion is the last time you could make the argument that the best matchup in the state was between two Fort Wayne teams? Because I think that’s the case this week with two HCC tilts getting honorable mention.
-
Wow on that Carroll/Snider score!!!!

21-3 on the season... Fishers @ Brownsburg: Both teams coming off of rivalry games, one ends in heartbreak (Fishers) one ends in continued domination (Brownsburg). Expect a sluggish start from both but tons of talent on the field in this contest. I will roll with the 'Dogs at home 31-21. Franklin Central @ Avon: The Flashes NEED this one after losing at home to Zionsville last week. Many, myself included, thought they could compete in the top half of the HCC and that still may be the case. If it is, they should have little trouble against a rebuilding Oriole outfit. I think they "escape" with one here. 27-21. Westfield @ Hamilton Southeastern: The Rocks have won their past three contests by a combined 9 points which could bode well for them as the season progresses and they get an HSE squad feeling all fat and happy after a big rivalry win. That being said, I think Westfield's luck runs out here and they are on the losing end of a close one. HSE wins 27-23. Zionsville @ Noblesville: Zionsville has quietly improved and won by double digits on Indy's southeast side last Friday in a bit of a shocker for me. Things don't get any easier this week as they travel to Noblesville whom I have been trying to figure out for the last 3 years. This is a statement game for both teams to prove they can compete with the upper tier of the conference and I will take the Millers at home by a slim margin of 20-17. What say you?

21-6 on the season... Cathedral @ North Central: After a disappointing loss on Saturday morning, I would not want to be line up across from the Irish the following time out yet that is the position hapless North Central finds themselves in. The Irish should comfortably roll here, 45-0. Harvest Prep (OH) @ Center Grove: Another team from the Buckeye state travels to Greenwood this Friday night and I know very little about them other than the fact that they are 3-0. MaxPreps has em at #35 in Ohio and if that is even close to true, it'll be a long bus ride back east. CG rolls 31-7. Lawrence Central @ Pike: Should have gone with my gut in the preseason as I had LN as the better of the two Lawrence Township schools. LC got some traction for me, albeit in a loss, after their thriller against Westfield. Turns out that it may be fool's gold as I had them firmly in the top ten. This also makes me question my loyalty to Westfield. Pike is improving but I think LC gets back on track here. Bears win 31-17. Lawrence North @ Carmel: Will the real Carmel squad please stand up? The Hounds have now been on both sides of lopsided scores this season after getting their doors blown off in Louisville. After BD, the MIC is chaos and this matchup should provide some clarity. Is there a less respected 4-0 team in 6A than LN? Count me as one of them. I am going to roll with Carmel in a mild upset here just because they are at home. 23-20 Hounds. Warren Central @ Ben Davis: East side vs west side. The Warriors have now rattled off two in a row after an 0-2 start and travel to their rivals' place to try to get above .500. The Giants showed well for themselves last week though I hate the term "moral victory." Interesting coaching story here as both head coaches formerly coached on the opposing sideline. Giant fans remember the last time they hosted this rivalry and won't let it happen again. I think BD pulls away here 35-20. What say you?

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 4)

Would like to add that I was also impressed with the strides the Perry squad has made. They used to be a bye week for most schools. That being said, (let me know when you are tired of hearing this) using the transitive property, Franklin Central who I have at #24 disposed of Perry much easier than Plainfield did. The Quakers did not play their best on Friday night and were a missed FG away from being 3-1. -

Is it sad that I too had the thought about MSU escaping that contract?
-
C’mon now. I need you to bring that same energy you had last month when Harbaugh was “lying to the NCAA.” Don’t disappoint me now.
-
Substitute UCLA in at #25…didn’t do my homework.

Sorry, I had to… https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/sports/columnists/graham-couch/2023/09/10/mel-tucker-michigan-state-football-sexual-harassment-allegation-graham-couch-opinion/70816082007/

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 4)

Yeah, transitive is all we have to compete those top four teams unfortunately. A BD/CG or BD/Brownsburg regular season contest would be electric in 2023… Good point on Moeller. These are high school kids all around so it’s really an exercise in futility. Did see that Moeller gave the ball to Jordan Marshall 35 times Friday night! That’s unheard of in modern day football. Selfishly excited about him in Ann Arbor next fall. I want to believe in Crown Point so badly as last year northeast Indiana (Carroll) broke through and northwest Indiana joining the 6A party would be awesome. I am a firm believer that statewide irepresentation in all classes is what makes high school football intriguing. Merrillville sorta ruined big boy football in the region for me a couple of years ago when they came down to Indy and got throttled by Chatard. Mudsock is quietly becoming the highest profile rivalry game in the state annually in my opinion. It’s what Ben Davis/Warren used to be. -

Christian Brothers is pretty loaded…King is rebuilding and a year away based on what I’ve seen. Far from an expert in other states though. Belleville (MI) is probably better than anyone Indiana has but not by much if I had to guess. I know very little about Illinois. All things considered, I think I’m taking Carmel to beat LN Friday which just adds more confusion, lol. -

This week against LN tells me much more. I think you may be right. -
