  1. I question this as well....but I truly have no idea of minor league soccer demand. I hope the team and the city have done their market research. I can't help thinking if cities can support MLS teams such as Columbus, KC, Cincy, Austin, StL, Charlotte, Salt Lake, etc, why can't Indy support minor league soccer? But, although I enjoy the EPL (Go Spurs)and have attended matches in Brazil and Europe, I've never felt the desire to check out an Eleven match. But guessing I am not part of the demographic they are targeting. I get over the hump with this investment given all that is included. Removing the old Diamond Chain factory from downtown, completing needed environmental remediation, making the riverfront more desirable, adding much needed hotel space, restaurants to that area of downtown, more residential living space, etc. My guess is that this stadium can and will be used for other purposes than just soccer. I am not sure of the need for more office space....But its the total package and utilizing an area of downtown that is frankly an eyesore that makes me feel more positive about the investment. If it were soccer alone, I would probably lean your way.
  2. Indy has become a major convention city...but the city is short on hotel space. We have an amazing football stadium, with few restaurants around it. But we do have an old factory taking up primo space on the White River that could and should be used for something more beneficial than an eyesore. You call it a Trojan Horse....I call it moving forward investing in a city that needs it. I chuckle when people living outside of the Indy metro area complain about local government involvment and higher taxes. Doesn't cost you or Muda a darn thing. Don't come here if you are worried about a few more cents added on to your meal. My guess is that you don't come here much anyhow, so not sure why it matters one bit if the city is working to better itself.
  3. I have read a number of studies that contradict each other. I notice you always show you bias by presenting one view. If you open your mind, you may learn even more....bias is a barrier BTW, it does matter. Real estate (both residential and commercial) hotels, restaurants, etc investments in a complex. etc absolutely provide a return. Cleaning up a dilapidated area within a downtown area, to include environmental remediation making an area useful does matter. You have no idea regarding the long term revenue generation not associated with the stadium. I am not saying all sports-related investments lead to a positive return. All I am saying this investment is much larger than the sports side of the complex and it would need some study. Without diving into the return on such investment, words are only an opinion.
  4. You failed to answer his question. Do you know who is funding? Is it county residents? Donut county residents? Tourism? Combination? Pretty easy to find other articles and economic studies that contradict your reference. My guess is with the differing opinions, there is no consensus. You do realize its much more than a stadium correct? Hotel space, office space, residential space, restaurants, etc. That area is an old factory that sits on the river and I am guessing the cost includes environmental remediation. That area of the city downtown needs investment. Glad they are doing something.
  5. is there a need for both the XFL and USFL? Would they be smarter to combine these spring leagues?
  6. No argument....I would say the EPL is the most popular soccer league in the US. They have excellent coverage on NBC, USA and on Peacock. (NBC streaming)
  7. everyone has a different opinion on sports investments and numerous studies seem to contradict each other...but this investment is much larger than an athletic venue. Real estate, hotels, restaurants, office space, etc. That area of downtown was an eyesore along the river, and this is a much needed facelift. https://www.wthr.com/article/news/local/new-indy-eleven-stadium-neighborhood-project-downtown-indianapolis-groundbreaking-renderings/531-85865f5f-4ab9-4ba8-b037-2ee7e8d8cf72
  8. I don't know....using that space where there used to be a factory makes a ton of sense. That is quite a sports complex in the downtown area with NFL and uses of Lucas Oil, Victory Field, and now this soccer complex. Also adjacent is the TCU amphitheater for concerts, NCAA HQ, museums, zoo, etc. The area by the river needs development, and this venue also provides more downtown hotel space (much needed) and restaurants. Lucas Oil needed more options around it and this is a great answer. Also, all of this is right across from a large convention center. Just hope they build the soccer stadium with the ability to expand so they can attract a MLS expansion team and perhaps use it for large outdoor concerts, etc.
  9. Time will tell....that would certainly separate him from recent Ohio State QB's playing in the NFL. I do appreciate your hope and passion for your team. Hurts lost his O Coordinator....we shall see what impact that has...if any.
  10. I'll agree..... now, if he can learn to read defenses, make sound decisions and execute........
  11. Fantastic baseball commentator. Seeing some great photos of Tim during his playing days as a catcher with StL and Philly....photos with Gibson and Carlton
  12. Fair enough....now I choose to leave a conversation that obviously has no direction.....
  13. 🙄 Can you name one program that has won 37 straight titles or are you just having a slow day? I am truly not sure where you are going with your comments.
  14. Great comment...it was a true paradigm change. When CG joined the MIC at the time Coach Moore started, most people thought CG was crazy and could never compete at that level. In 2000, they made it to the state finals, and by 2008, won their first title. But a vision of achieving something never close to be realized in their past, along with hall of fame coach building the program and changing the culture took the Trojans to a completely different level. Can that recipe not be replicated for other sports? Even the Cubs finally won a world series!! What football team ever has? Is program success only defined by 37 consecutive titles? Bottom line, CG football is considered as one of the elite programs in this state. They were nowhere close when they first started the journey with a new vision.
  15. So you cherry pick one sport and make your case. Brilliant. BTW, a CG diver just won her 2nd straight state championship. Also, given their natatorium, they may not beat Carmel much in the future in swimming, but I bet they hold their own. You tell me...does Carmel, Warren, Cathedral, Ben Davis, etc still have top notch programs after they had excellent head coaches leave or retire? Coach Moore is a legend...no doubt. But he will remain close to the program after he retires, will have big time hand in the replacement, will ensure his pieces still function and one of the best feeder systems in the state will keep chugging along.
  16. yea...because he built a program that is not sustainable?? C'mon. You do realize CG does pretty well at a number of sports, right?
  17. I see it more as musical chairs. Carmel and CG were tight knit pals leaving the MIC together for a brighter tomorrow in the HCC. HCC said "no", I believe more because of Carmel. MIC is scorned and kicks both out. Carmel doesn't see HCC on the horizon and realizes MIC may be only conference in town to take them. So, distance yourself from your main competitor, ensuring you get one of those spots. Distancing yourself pleases the majority of the MIC, so that's what they do. With hat in hand, they are allowed back in the MIC. Without CG in the MIC, they mop up. Lot more trophies in the case back at the mansion. It has to be much more than a single bball game in which their own coach screwed up royally with his behavior.
  18. Go to the 1:30 mark if you don't wish to watch it all. Rich Nye report from WTHR
  19. Reich and Wentz coming from Philly didn't stick. Maybe the 3rd time is a charm??
  20. 100% agree PHJ. The video can't be debated. He sends his players around the students as he should, but instead of following them, turned to his left and pushed his way through the kids, making contact with a number of them. He totally instigated the incident. And Carmel admin uses this event to push for separation from CG, claiming CG admin didn't punish a kid enough who received a 3 day suspension for pushing the coach back AFTER the coach made contact with him first? It makes zero sense. There has to be more at play here. Why hasn't the IHSAA stepped in if Carmel admin is unable to hold their coaches to a standard? I have my thoughts, as I guess so do many others. Carmel looks very bad in this case....and it would seem they are willing to do anything to separate themselves from CG and win their way back into the MIC. I just hope the CG admin starts making demands of Carmel or escalates this to the IHSAA forcing their hand. Totally unacceptable.
  21. Didn't remember your name and does it matter? You can read and figure it out. Regardless, it didn't matter to me. BTW, I understood what you stated and implied the first time. So you have insight as to how all the MIC school administrations feel about Carmel AD? Good for you...guess you are "in the know"
  22. No disagreement....so call it consistently. Don't allow muggings earlier in the game with no calls and then flag a ticky tack at the end of the game impacting it. Not a hard concept to understand. That is not speculation or irrelevant.
