  1. I can see that...and that did happen under the old qualifying format many years ago. But changing schedules isn't easy for some....certain regions are currently limited to playing options. Travelling large distances may not be an option. And if they can find different opponents, it may be to the detriment of local rivalries. The latter is something I personally experienced.
  2. Temp, You lost me with this statement..... Carmel - The 'Hounds slipped up late against Warren before dominating a good LC team on senior night to regain momentum heading into the tournament. They will get a hungry Westfield team in round 1 that is hungry to prove they belong in the 6A conversation after two consecutive semi-state crowns at the 5A level. Westfield won consecutive 6A semi-state crowns, playing CG in the 6A state finals the last 2 years........not 5A
  3. I guess Coach...just shows recruiting is hardly an exact science. Guessing the experts hit more than they miss...but sometimes they are really off the mark. Diamonds in the rough are what make good teams, great. The Boilers sure got a diamond right out of southern Indiana.
  4. Shocking....man, did not see that one coming......
  5. I vote we go with coin tosses....worked for Odessa Permian and Midland Lee.......
  6. Congrats Cathedral! Shake hands....move on!! See ya next year if not sooner. Time for the playoffs!!
  7. 419 yds against GS on 28 carries?? Wow! Did you see his track accomplishments? Ist in state long jump....2nd in high hurdles. How did so many miss out on this tremendous athlete???? (recruiting world and colleges)
  8. Good for him....what a job on and off the field. This young man is impressive. Will never forget the job he did leading IU into Madison a couple of years ago and got the W over the Badgers. Hope he lands somewhere where he gets the shot to play. He deserves it!!
  9. Looks like Valpo and Hanover...that is what 247 listed. How does a 3 star not get more offers?? With an offer from Navy, the young man had to be pretty darn good in the classroom. https://247sports.com/player/devin-mockobee-46102150/ Looks like a Purdue walk-on. What a grab for the Boilers! https://www.si.com/college/purdue/football/purdue-walk-on-devin-mockobee-taking-advantage-of-increasing-opportunity
  10. Mockobee played for Boonville HS
  11. I haven’t seen Spegal this season…
  12. Demoralizing?? Lol. The Trojans will be just fine. Coach Moore and his staff will use the extra week to get them ready. They will learn from it. Sometimes, you just tip your hat to the other team and just go lace ‘em up again.
  13. It’s the highest buyout in the Big 10. Wisconsin’s buyout of Chryst was $10M. IU football constantly is a head scratcher
  14. They should be all over O’Neil. Every time I see Carson Steele rush over 100 yds in a game for Ball State, I just shake my head that he couldn’t compete with IU’s backs…ru kidding me? Yesterday Steele had 179 yds and 3 TD’s
  15. Also, Indiana becomes first CFB program to lose 700 games in its history….😖
  16. Meanwhile, Michael Penix broke UW record with a 516 yd passing game and 4 TD’s in victory over Arizona….. I don’t think so with a $30 million buyout….
  17. I kept stating this is less of a football issue and more of an IHSAA issue for all sports…..crickets
  18. Pretty sure Maryland went all in during Covid year and is now considering making it permanent.
  19. Hope both teams do have the opportunity to meet up again this season. It has been a tremendous series. My guess is being independents, they will play for some years to come. Tip of the hat to the Irish…heck of a comeback. A few key plays made the difference in the 4th quarter, and Cathedral made them.
  20. Not disagreeing, but got to give Cathedral tons of credit. Their pitching and catching combination is pretty darn special.
  21. Maybe I missed it...so if we cut 6A from 32 to 16 teams per your proposal to qualify for post season play....how does this help the kids? (both players and the student body) Coaching staffs? I understand it makes it more exciting for you. Honest question....
  22. One thing is for sure...like death and taxes, it is a certainty that this topic will be hashed and rehashed on at least an annual basis on this forum.... I will continue to say that this is bigger than football with the IHSAA. Bottom line, there is zero driver to take a game away from kids, expect for the appeal to a segment of the fan base. And I don't see that being a big enough reason to change. Compound the issue with the past qualifier system in this state being not being considered as a success....far from it. Seeding...that has a much higher probability in my opinion. But hey, lets debate it each and every year.....quite the exercise.
