Here's what I have: Conf A: North Side, Northrop, Snider, Homestead, Carroll, Warsaw, Dwenger, Columbia City Mainly the big schools minus Northrop and Columbia City. CC included for geographic reasons Conf B: Marion, Huntington North, Jay County, Bellmont, Norwell, New Haven, South Side, Wayne Medium to small sized schools mainly south of FW. Conf C East Noble, Leo, New Haven, Luers, DeKalb, Concordia, West Noble, Angola Medium to small sized schools mainly in or north of FW. Conf D Adams Central, South Adams, Southern Wells, Bluffton, Heritage, Woodlan, Garrett Small schools mainly east, southeast, or north of FW Conf E: Central Noble, Lakeland, Prairie Heights, Fairfield, Fremont, Churubusco, Blackhawk, Eastside Small schools mainly north, northeast, or northwest of FW. Hamilton and Westview would be included in this conference.

What in the world is wrong with Brown County athletics? You think they'd be able to fund a decent athletics program with all of that tourist money. Neither the football or boy's basketball teams won a game last year. The boys basketball team lost to Crothersville, a team called Bloomington Lighthouse, and Columbus Christian. Yikes. This year, though, the football team won against Irvington Prep in their first year of 11-man football.

This week was weird. Very weird. It proved the Mid-State Conference's overall balance: I wouldn't say there's too big of a gap between 1 and 8. Maybe a disappointing result for me last week, but the conference has been really fun this year and I'm gonna be here for it when I make the quick drive Friday to watch the Quakers take on the Grizzly Cubs in Plainfield. POWER RANKINGS 1. Plainfield (5-1) (1) The Quakers had a disappointing road loss to Decatur Central, but I fully expect the Quakers to bounce back and learn from this missed opportunity. This is the kind of loss that builds experience for a young team and a young coach. I still have them ranked #1 in my power rankings for this reason. 2. Decatur Central (4-2) (4) An impressive comeback win over Plainfield catapulted the Hawks to #2 in the Mid-State power rankings. The Hawks proved themselves a legitimate contender in Sectional 13, which may just be the best sectional in the 5A South. 3. Whiteland (3-3) (5) Whiteland dominated in an impressive win over Martinsville, which served as revenge for last year's surprising Arties win. 4. Franklin (4-2) (6) Franklin gets a close victory over a decent Mooresville team. The rematch against Whiteland in the sectional should be a good one. 5. Martinsville (3-3) (3) Martinsville went to Whiteland and got beaten. Not a remarkable loss but one in which the Arties will remember to help prepare them for their likely game against East Central in the sectional (spoiler: no chance against EC) 6. Perry Meridian (2-4) (2) Whoa.... whoa is all I have to say. Perry looked like a different version of themselves this year... only to let down defensively against Greenwood. Warren Central will be licking their chops... watch out. 7. Greenwood (4-2) (8) I know, I know. Mooresville kicked their butt. I know. But I have to rank the Woodmen above solely for the fact that they've won games against Martinsville and Perry Meridian while the Woodmen are the Pioneers only conference win this year. Great, memorable win for the Woodmen who are off to a surprising 4-2 start. That offense can be POTENT at times. 8. Mooresville (2-4) (7) Mooresville comes in at the dreaded 8th ranking this week, however I'm not totally convinced that this is the worst team in the conference. I can see the Pioneers picking up another conference win or two this year before heading into their sectional, where they will probably lose. WEEK 7 PREDICTIONS Plainfield 22, Franklin 20 Close battle with moderate scoring similar to how a lot of Plainfield and Franklin games have gone this year. Game of the Week in the conference. Whiteland 23, Mooresville 13 Whiteland should out-man Mooresville in this one. I wouldn't expect too much scoring here. Martinsville 28, Perry Meridian 27 This can be a fun game that I expect to be close. Can go either way. Decatur Central 40, Greenwood 28 Greenwood's offense against a shaky at times Decatur Central defense. The Woodmen will continue to gel throughout the year in the passing game. However, Decatur's offense shouldn't have a problem with the Woodmen defense.

I think the Quakers or the Raiders are 5A South's only hope.

Don't care how many D1 recruits the state of Alabama has, most Indiana teams would blast most Alabama teams out of the water Bottom Alabama teams would make Cambridge City Lincoln look like a state championship contender

I personally believe that they are behind Plainfield and Harrison right now. They should play Plainfield close and even possibly win on Friday but if Plainfield wins convincingly then Decatur needs to rethink their strategy.

I personally believe that nobody in the South is better than last year's Whiteland however teams such as Plainfield and Bloomington South are capable of playing them close.

Can't underrate those guys. Crown Point game should be somewhat telling though

5A South is a melting pot right now, and multiple schools have a punchers chance. Plainfield, Harrison, and the Bloomington schools seem the most likely at the moment.

POWER RANKINGS 1. Plainfield (5-0) (1) Without a doubt the best team in the Mid-State right now. Defense looked a little iffy against Greenwood in the 1st half but really stepped up in the 2nd. Legitimate contender in 5A South. 2. Perry Meridian (2-3) (4) Perry is the 2nd best team in the conference right now. I wouldn't say that they'd be competitive with Warren throughout 4 quarters of football but they should be able to win out in conference play. 3. Martinsville (3-2) (8) Arties jump all the way to 3rd after a dominant win against Franklin. I thought that the Decatur win was fluky, but the Franklin win proved that it was not. Arties sophomore WR Jace Lafary is one to watch in the future, finishing with a statline of 6 catches, 140 yards, and 3 TDs. The Greenwood loss still stings though. 4. Decatur Central (3-2) (5) Decatur won a rivalry game against Mooresville. Rivalry wins are always impressive, especially on the road. They are a good team but where they stand in Sectional 13 will be determined with their homecoming game against Plainfield on Friday. 5. Whiteland (2-3) (3) Whiteland was expected to decline a bit due to their loss of production, but 2-3 was not expected and there is still some possible losses on that schedule. Either way, not a bad team, just in a conference with a lot of teams that are on the same skill level as them. 6. Franklin (3-2) (2) After what appeared to be a solid win over Whiteland, Franklin collectively soiled their pants against Martinsville on Friday. I feel that 2-7 are all very close with one another so I have no problem with dropping Franklin so much after a lackluster performance against the Arties. 7. Mooresville (2-3) (6) Mooresville is not a bad team, but I have 6 teams over them right now. Pioneers lost close to Decatur Central and they should have a good shot against Franklin next week. 8. Greenwood (3-2) (7) Greenwood is back to their last place standing in the Mid-State, with their defense playing exactly how I thought it would against the Quakers. Bright future ahead for the Woodmen as long as they keep their new coach around, but this is not their year. WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS Plainfield 20, Decatur Central 14 Martinsville 21, Whiteland 20 Perry Meridian 35, Greenwood 28 Franklin 27, Mooresville 26 Should be an exciting week in the Mid-State, as always.

Hey Snider people, If Snider makes it to LOS, who do you think they'll face from 5A South, and who do y'all want them to face? Being in Plainfield, I'm hearing a lot of biased Plainfield talk and I'd like to get a semi-neutral perspective.

Almost nailed the hammer on the head on the other three but what was I thinking with SN vs TC...

Plainfield 46 Greenwood 20 It was Homecoming tonight for the Quakers, and in the first half, the Woodmen acted as if they wanted to spoil it. Greenwood took a 6-0 lead and had it tied at 14-14 before the Quakers scored just before halftime to make it 22-14. Greenwood took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half back for 6, however, the Woodmen would not see the end zone again for the rest of the night. This was the best that any defense had performed against the potent Woodmen offense all year, holding them to just 14 offensive points. Plainfield's offense would also get theirs, scoring 44 total points (they had a safety in the 4th quarter). The Quakers have not played to the best of their ability for the past two weeks and will need to tune up the intensity a bit if they want to spoil Decatur Central's homecoming next week, which I know they can. Also, Snider's 27-24 win over Carroll doesn't bode well for our State chances. Go Red Pride!

Frankfort would be a prime candidate for relegation if the IHSAA were to ever implement it (which they should).
