Overall this is pretty much what a seeded sectional would look like (if you exclude home & away considerations) except that you could flip Central and Memorial. Memorial @ Bye: Personally, I'd prefer to play in Rd. 1 but you can't lose to the Bye and it will be nice to have an extra week to get healthy as the Castle game this week will be a battle. Boonville @ Harrison: This should be an entertaining game. I'd like to play at Boonville in Round 2. The last meeting between Memorial and Boonville was in 1957. Northview @ Jasper: I was more impressed with Northview than Jasper when we played them in Wks. 1 & 2, but Jasper seems to have improved. I haven't followed Northview but they haven't lost since Memorial beat them. It will be interesting to see how Northview does against Indian Creek this week. Reitz @ Central: Seems to be an annual thing in Sectional 24, but might lack the drama of prior years. Central throttled Reitz in the first match-up 42-0. It will be interesting to see how Central bounces back against North this week after losing to MD. Reitz picked up a much-needed W against Bosse. I don't see Reitz being able to hang with Central.

I disagree, but say you are right. That means 50% of the non-qualifiers (who are the visiting teams in Wk. 10) are guaranteed to get $0 or even lose money on a 10th game. I'm no math wizard, but 1/7 of the revenue split from 6 games (or 1/8 of 7 in a 8-team Sectional) is going to be more than $0 or a loss. Even if the 2 schools decide to split the gate, I'm pretty confident 1/7 of 6 games is going to be more than 1/2 of 1 game involving non-qualifiers, at least based upon what I've seen down here in SW IN over the last 30 years. Seeding and a qualifier are different issues. I could see seeding happening because it could help all schools in a Sectional financially. A qualifier isn't a lot of schools get revenue whether they are competitive or not so there is no incentive to support a system that is very likely going to exclude them on an annual basis. I'm with IO, I honestly don't care, but I don't think the pro-qualifier arguments are entirely sound.

@Footballking16 - You are assuming the non-qualifying schools (1) even schedule the 10th game; and (2) would draw enough fans to even pay officials. I'll give you an example from Sectional 24 (where 7 schools will split revenue). Last Friday we played Ev. Harrison (0-8, no chance of qualifying under any legitimate qualifier system). They had less than 25 fans in the stands for a game. As is, Ev. Harrison has a legitimate chance to win a tournament game (against 4-4 Boonville), advance to the 2nd round against Memorial (we drew the bye), and will get the benefit of 1/7 of the revenue from games involving Reitz @ Central (where I'm sure a 1000 or so Memorial fans will attend and add to what should already be a well-attended game), Northview @ Jasper, Rd. 2 games involving Memorial and either Ev. Harrison or Boonville and most likely Central @ either Jasper or Northview, and a probable Sectional final being Central @ Memorial. The regular season game between Central and Memorial was standing room only, so let's say 4,000 fans for that one alone. There is no way a "Bowl Game" between 2 struggling non-qualifiers is going to generate the same revenue as 1/7 of those kinds of Sectional match-ups. Granted, I don't disagree that money shouldn't be the driving force, but the reality is that money is going to be the biggest factor in whether the principals and ADs support any change.

And the school gets it share of the revenue from all Sectional games. This is one of the factors the "qualifier proponents" can't adequately address.

A question for someone smarter than me... In the SAC, after Wk. 9 wouldn't each of the 10 teams have identical SOS rankings since each team played the same 9 schools? Or is it weighted to recent games? Wondering because the SIAC will be in the same boat next year...

Not much chatter this week. Maybe it's a hangover from Wk. 7. The forecast isn't tailgater friendly tonight - rain and temps dropping to mid-50's by kick off. There should be a few good games on tap: Mater Dei at Central Bosse at Reitz North at Castle Harrison at Memorial MD will need to follow Memorial's recipe in this one. If the Wildcats can keep from giving up big plays on D, eat up the clock with sustained drives on O, and keep their wits about them, then they could keep it close and have a chance to upset the Bears. The Tigers are pulling for our Catholic rivals tonight. Schutte is a load for the Bears. (Central 27-24) Bosse is a good team. The big Q is how does Reitz respond after losing to North last week? (Bosse 28-21) North got the big win last week and Castle is playing well of late. Being on the wet grass of Lidy might neutralize the Huskies' speed. (Castle 21-14) Word is Harrison had a couple of kids drop the squad this week. Tigers look to get back in the win column after the 2OT loss to Central. (Memorial 42-14) Batten down the hatches, the rain is a coming.....

In Evansville I would say Levron Williams and Deke Cooper are at the top of my list in the 90's. Also saw Zach Martin for Chatard in 2008 and prayed the kid who got Beetle Bailey'ed by him all night wouldn't be permanently injured and lose his commission to West Point.

I don't know how much stock to put into either the GS or Chatard games with Southport. I don't know much about Southport, but the teams they've beaten aren't setting the HS football world on fire. Granted, losing a QB is always tough, but I would also think that a 6A school would be able to absorb the loss of a couple players much easier than a 2A-4A school. When I watched the GS v. Southport game, I wasn't overly impressed with the numbers and expected a 6A school with 2,000+ students to have a few more bodies on the sideline. As one of (if not the most) the more objective GS posters said in the week leading up to the Southport game, it was a win-win game for GS. Win and they beat a 6A, lose and they lost to a 6A. Heritage Hills' D looked better than Southport to me (especially the secondary players).

Bosse could surprise some people. They did it last year to Boonville and just ran out of gas. They are a much better team this year than last year. I'm not saying they can win 32, but they could make some noise.

This could be the week North gets the W it's been looking for. Castle should have no problem against Harrison. Bosse at MD might be closer than people think, but MD is usually pretty tough coming off a loss. Hopefully Central at Memorial will live up to the billing, but recent history would suggest otherwise. The last 2 match-ups have pretty much been over by halftime. Central has a lot of weapons and the Tigers will have their hands full.

I expected HH to win, but not by 35, so this game certainly raised some eyebrows. All in all, getting humbled in what was their biggest game of the year might be exactly what GS needed. Taking FP, NP, PCHS and SS to the woodshed certainly doesn't mean much. Maybe the 8 point loss to 6A Southport wasn't all it was hyped up to be. I expect GS will use this game to get re-focused and be a better team when the rematch rolls around. My take would be that GS has a lot of work to do if they want to get out of Sectional 32 and make a run.

They also both played Princeton and had blow-out wins. Maybe that is where SOS comes into play? Jasper's 54.65 puts them at 88 and GS's 30.53 puts them at 220. I think there are 3 teams in the top tier (Central, Memorial & HH), 5 in the second tier (Castle, MD, Southridge, Jasper & GS) and then the rest. Linton is too far removed to be able to accurately rank IMO.

I can't speak to the others, but Brownstown Central is a team I was nervous about last year simply because we don't see any shotgun wing T so preparing is always a challenge. They are well-coached, tough, and do what they do very well.

MD is around 500 and Memorial is 600.

Central is the favorite to take the SIAC. It looks like they have the right pieces in the right places now. Memorial better not be looking ahead to Central or else Reitz could get them this week. Memorial's D is playing very well but the O needs to execute better, particularly the WRs, who have dropped several easy TD balls the past 2 weeks that made close games out of games that shouldn't have been all that close. I see MD at Castle being the game of the week. This will be MD's first game away from the Bowl this season so the adjustment to good field lighting may be an issue. North at Bosse could also be a good game. Bosse's QB was injured Friday so I'm not sure if he will be back.

Bosse should not be overlooked. They have a very good LB group, good size on the D line, and a secondary with speed and athleticism. And remember, last year they took undefeated Boonville to the wire in the Sectionals only to lose by 7 (42-35). We had some drops early that cost us TDs, but they played very tough for 4 Qs.

I thought he was OOB when I first saw the clip. Seeing that he was in-bounds, I think the initial reactions (including mine) were over-reactions to some extent. It also sounded bad - like 2 Corvettes hitting head-on. I suppose it a teaching moment and BA will get OOB in the future...

A lot of games to be played. I expect Reitz to get things turned around before sectional. Central is a very good team. Jasper seems to be improving. Sectional 24 will be tough. Depth and health will be an issue for us. We have a very small junior class, so a lot of younglings are getting significant time.

Look at the schools in sectionals 30, 31 & 32 on a map. Somebody did the alignment after a few bong hits...
