2022 3A outlook
DumfriesYMCA replied to DumfriesYMCA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It’s a little of everything some schools stick to their historical schedules and it works. Heritage Hills comes to mind for this. If they have the horses their schedule doesn’t matter they will show up and play. other schools like Gibson southern have learned that playing above their class is the way their program needs grow and mature through a season. travel and what not come into play too for some teams…and scheduling is hard. Gibson Southern schedules 5A/low 6A teams every year but I think for the longest time many of the bigger schools didn’t want to schedule them because they didn’t think it would be a competitive game for their kids. I have to imagine there are plenty of other 3A schools who have the same issue and just have to try and find games whether it’s playing down or out of state -
If you really think about it….this is really because kids are listening to their coaches and sticking to the gameplan as it unfolds. you don’t see as many punt returns because punters are trying to get hang time and minimize a return….and the return kids are more disciplined/not selfish and will only take the return if it’s a situation that is favorable to the team. is safety a factor? Yes…but we have rules for protecting the players already. This is more about teams wanting to just take the field position and get their offense out there…minimize the risk of not getting the defense off the field. if you want more punt returns in todays game you need to find matchups where the talent isn’t proportionate….like a punter on a team who can kick it further than his teammates can run in 6 seconds….or a returner who is a step above everyone in the speed department.

I didn’t think about that aspect…but I didn’t sub in much 😅 that does seem like something logical and a good reason why though. -

I don’t think it did here Like what is the problem if a player is all the way down by the endzone….if they are out of bounds and don’t interfere with the officiating crew or anyone working the game….there is nothing wrong with it…but it’s a rule for some reason. and to me…I just can’t see a reason for why you have to restrict a team to a certain area on the sidelines. -

I’ve always wondered why do we have the rule of players in the box on the sidelines. like I just don’t see the problem if they were outside the box…then again when I played I was always getting yelled at because I would be hyped up on the sideline and next thing ya know im at like the 15/10 yard line and coach was yelling at me to get back lol -
Oh I’m a staunch bears hater so much so that I have never started a single bears player on any of my fantasy football teams in the 10 years I’ve played. not a single one of em i also have a shirt of Aaron Rodgers that says “I still own you” lol wont find someone who hates the bears more than me 😂

2022 3A outlook
DumfriesYMCA replied to DumfriesYMCA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think Vincennes is definitely playing with some heart and probably 2 chips on their shoulders during the offseason the Evansville paper, reporters, and SIAC fans were pushing this idea that VL was looking to leave the SIAC already. the PAC I believe unanimously voted to not let them join and they ended up staying in the SIAC. Kinda feels like they said “ya know what…nobody seems to believe in us so screw them…we will show them on Friday nights” and so far they have arguably been the most impressive team this year in terms of expectations and results -

I have no idea about owen valley other than they are the patriots. And something about them being the patriots makes me want to see GS beat them lol But i don’t think it will be the same as playing at Heritage hills -

It’s been pretty quiet about tri west this year but I think they were said to be returning a lot this year i know a few of their players are very unhappy with the way things finished last year getting blown out by GS. I recall seeing about 3 or 4 of them at the state championship game and they kinda just had this look of being upset/this could be us playing right now. Which props to them. I don’t think I would have the will to go watch the team that just beat me play for the state championship the week after getting blown out like that. im sure they will be ready for the playoffs and ready to make a push for LOS and have been working with an extra chip all offseason -

We back. Let’s stay on topic this time so this thread doesn’t get locked up again please. the last thing I brought up was Vincennes Lincoln is someone to keep an eye on Sectional 30 currently looking Tougher and tougher by the week GS, VL, Mt Vernon, Owen Valley all contending for that sectional -

Yeah GS has new radio broadcasters this year. I think they are college kids at WVC where the station broadcasts from. i think they got mixed up and didn’t know any better which led to my confusion. kinda lucked out that one of the refs there is on this forum to clear things up -
4A is just so tough this year. if any SIAC 4A makes it LOS, they would be without a doubt the best team in the 812 for the year
-
I’m out of reactions but definitely agree repeat of last year…came out incredibly flat now there is a fire lit under their butts and the bears are coming into town
-
It’s week 5 and the SIAC is still chaos lol i think only feel confident about picking Reitz to win.

closer to the topic here Maxpreps 3A rankings I think it’s going to be interesting to see where Vincennes ends up. Closed off in the SIAC…and the only 3A team in the SIAC now I believe with bosse up to 4A as well as Memorial. Going to be quite the wildcard once we get into sectionals -

Well….it wouldn’t be a 3A outlook thread without this coming up out of nowhere lol -
I was under the impression the sophomore safety was playing good snaps already either way it’s a young team I was thinking earlier in the offseason “ya know….it’s probably easier to project the 2023 team and how good they are than this year.” Simply because there are so many guys coming back this year has been a nice surprise so far

I don’t know if Lawrenceburg is too low they are sitting 10th on a list that goes from Terre haute to Bloomington to Charlestown. It’s almost the complete southern half of the state minus some of the Indy metro and neighboring areas that we won’t classify as Indy if you live there but everyone will still think it
-
Also, It’s still weird to me to see Columbus East ranked so low. Forever in my mind as a powerhouse but it’s been a few years. take me back to the Jones/Kiel years
-
I believe GS and Reitz had a scrimmage in the summer. One of the very early ones, not the week before week 1. I think the early reports from that were that GS could run the ball pretty easily and Reitz had a very strong receiving group would definitely be a fun one…too bad the SIAC is closed off. Gonna be a few years before something like this can happen (barring both teams facing a cancelation on the same week)
-
The top of 3A being separated by 7 points seems very appropriate. so many 3-1/4-0 teams in 3A too. Lots of changes in the next 5 weeks for sure
-
Yeah that’s true. I personally just enjoy it because I can poke fun at the wife since she is a Princeton grad and I went to GS. But for football….it’s completely non competitive. It’s been 20 years since Princeton got a W and that was only because Gs had to forfeit a game back in like 2003 or something
