Watched the Blue-Gold game yesterday and I know it’s hard to gauge from a scrimmage but the offense looked bad. No Tyler Buchnar meant Drew Pyne starting for both squads and he looked bad. In his defense he got no rest in between series and the wr core is limited by both scholarship players and experience but DP did not take advantage of this opportunity. (And he also physically did not look good with the half cut jersey showing of his stomach 😳 ). Maybe the defense is just that good (hey they did tackle) but don’t think there’s much doubt the Irish need help from that portal at wide receiver and perhaps quarterback.

Where and what is traveler? Don’t know that one by name.

I’m biased but they’re be in my top 5. No order but I’d say ND, hate to admit but USC and Michigan, BYU, and I always liked Colorado with the black pants white jerseys and gold helmets. Don’t know a ton of fight songs but I do like Tennessee and Wake Forest.

Marcus Freeman doing something Brian Kelly had no interest in doing or maybe wasn’t allowed to do; connecting with the former players. I’ve read there’s up to 300 former Irish players going to the spring game tomorrow. Pretty cool to have that kind of a turnout If true. A bummer that Buchnar isn’t playing tomorrow, maybe this opens the door for Ron Powlus III

Would have been nice if they could have scheduled Colorado St, Hawaii, or even Tennessee St before playing in the horse shoe. Maybe the lack of "game" tape will help the Irish and TB (very wishful thinking) in week 1.

My hope (and perhaps ND's hope as well) is that the Irish can run the ball and keep OSU off of the field. I think with Harry Hiestand back as the OL coach ND is going to try and wear teams down this year. The OL, RB, and TE will be the strength of the offense and will be featured. But as a lifelong ND fan, I've hoped for this before and then ND can't run the ball or stop big plays from the other team and they get down 21-3 in the 2nd quarte. IMO it will be helpful that this is Ohio State's first game too so they may be working on some things defensively as well. Also, Tyler Buchnar will miss the spring game this weekend for ND. Hurt his ankle, not in practice but at the practice facility walking down the stairs and missing the last one. Hope those stairs are more physical than OSU's defense!!

Ortiz resigns at La Porte
WolvesOnTheProwl replied to Tommy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
4th coach in 5 seasons.... and I'm assuming when they hired a few of these young coaches (Sharp, Lowery, Ortiz) they thought they had their HC in place for the next 10 years. -
As the 23 class goes (Dante or bust), I’d be shocked if they finish #1. A top 3 finish is a better expectation IMO

I was talking about a Michigan fan referring to that game to get the “last” word in. No reason for any ND fan but to think about that game let alone mention it
-
And I personally do not like the scheduling of Tennessee St but I get that's where major college football is heading. As long as they beat TS by 50 and also can beat Clemson, Ohio St and USC I won't complain haha. So in 2023 they'll open up with Navy (in Ireland), Tennessee St, and Central Michigan before hosting Ohio St at home.

Unfortunately that's all you need to shut us ND fans up

I think both will play this year, neither are very big and at some point they’ll probably miss time so the other will have to be ready to step in. Could be as early as week 1. Will they look to transfer portal for a back up for added depth? Sounds like TB has been pretty accurate throwing the ball this spring. I agree that DP should have gotten more of a look in a few games last year but he must not practice well? They’ll utilize all their running backs in blue-gold game since there are only 5 scholarship receivers in spring practice.

Out of curiosity who are the many “chosen ones” you speak of? Not arguing just want your take. The only “chosen one” that I can think of in recent memory (does 2007 even count?) was jimmy Clausen who showed up in the limo wearing his state championship rings. I would say he was not a miss but obviously couldn’t take them to a national title. In fairness to the quarterbacks it’s also important to point out during the end of Weis and a majority of BK era they were way more than a great quarterback away from competing for a championship. Now it seems that overall roster talent is the best it’s been since maybe the holtz regime? Here are the quarterbacks I can think of since jimmy Clausen. Dayne Christ, Gunnar Kiel, Malik Zaire, DeShone Kizer, Everett Golson, Tommy Rees, Phil Jurcovic, Brandon Winbush, Brendan Clark, Drew Pyne. How many of these guys would you take over Tyler Buchnar? Probably way too early to tell what TB will end up but if they can somehow land Dante Moore he will be IMO the “chosen one” over anyone on my list including Jimmy C or Tyler Buchnar. Let’s see how the season plays out with TB running the show and see how Moores recruitment plays out and if either or somebody else can get them to a title

Was wondering the same

BK is on the gridiron digest?!? He better have booster status haha
-
Honest question but besides our favorite referee who else has proclaimed Tyler Buchnar as the chosen one?

ND has been all in on this to the point that if he goes elsewhere I’m not sure what the Irish do. He’s been to south bend a few times, recently for a 2 day visit. Rumor was he could be announcing soon and shut it all down but after his visit to ND he said he’ll schedule his official visits. Which means LSU, Ole Miss, Michigan and others will get a chance to wine dine and NIL the young man to come to school there

From what I gather TB and BL on same page as far as game planning on then on Friday’s BA would come in and try to alter their game plan. I think BA going to front office makes a happier TB and he also gets to keep his offensive coordinator. So kind of win-win for Tom Brady

I'll be anxious to see if some of the schools up here in NW IN will start up 8 man football teams. Up here the schools that don't play football offer boys volleyball in the fall. I just wonder if the smaller schools will have the numbers to have both 8 man football and soccer/cross country/boys vb or 8 man football and track/baseball. I know some of the smaller schools (Kouts, Hebron) share athletes in some sports Seems like Saturday mornings have replaced Monday JV games for a lot of school here in the north.

I think Yeoman has been at Penn since the early 2000's.... who has the next longest tenure at their school in the NIC?
