  1. Just saw this one in action last night. After their first TD, Harrison pulled off a perfect crossfield floater from the right hash all the way to the left sideline and it dropped down right around Logansport's 40 or so. The problem is that it was too perfectly executed. Logansport's front line, which was skewed toward the kicking hash, thought it was a regular long kick ... as Harrison's first kick of the game was a long ball that resulted in a touchback after the receiver mishandled the ball and it went into the end zone ...and immediately dropped back. The gunners on Harrison's left side got down to where the ball was going to land and there was no one on Logansport's team near it. It came down just as the gunner got there and he caught it without letting it hit the ground first. Logansport ended up getting the ball around Harrison's 45 or so after the 15 yard penalty. I understand the reasoning for the rule and it certainly seems to make even more sense if there's a receiving player attempting to catch it, but it was a bummer because Harrison's kicker and kick team executed it so well and completely caught Logansport off guard. Given that there was no one from Logansport around it, if it'd hit the ground, Harrison would have still likely recovered.
  2. Logansport with a feel-good TD with 30 seconds left in the game, but Harrison blocks the kick. 28-13 Harrison. Final.
  3. Harrison causes a fumble and rips off a 50 yard run. 28-7 over Logansport with 6 minutes left in the game.
  4. Harrison with QB with a keeper sneak. 2-pt conversion is good. 21-7 Harrison pulling away from Logansport. 7:42 left in game
  5. Harrison with a 25-yard FG. Leads 13-7 with 30 seconds left in 3Q.
  6. Harrison with 30 yard field goal on opening drive of second half. Leads 10-7 over Logansport.
  7. Harrison and Logansport tied at half 7-7.
  8. Logansport picks up a TD. 7-7 tie with Harrison. 6 minutes left in 2Q.
  9. After forcing a Logansport punt, Harrison and Logansport trade turnovers. 0-0 at end of Q1. Like last week, Harrison scores early in 2nd. Leads 7-0 with 10:36 in 2Q.
  10. Back in the day ... before helmets ... we ran 5-3 against the veer. And yes, the playside DE's job was to completely blow up the QB every play.
  11. Growing up running the veer in Texas, and likewise having to defend it, the most emphasized aspect by our defensive coordinator was that the QB was mercilessly punished on every play whether he had the ball or not. Our goal was that, by the start of the second half, that triple option veer was going to be a dive play because the QB never wanted to get to the end again for the rest of the game. The days of the point guard QB disappeared pretty quickly in that league. You had to have QBs that came from the fullback or linebacker ranks to survive the game and keep it as a triple option.
  12. Definitely a candidate for Post Snippet of the Season!
  13. This is what I keep telling my son; especially if the other team has wheels back there receiving. You just take that other player right out the game without any need for gimmicks. 80 yards is a LONG way to go when you realize the football gods are quite fickle about a team traversing that distance carrying a ball.
  14. Going all-in this weekend. I see a small opening, but going to have to take a risk now or that's going to close up. 1 Point Games Lafayette Central Catholic @ Benton Central Northwestern @ Rensselaer West Lafayette @ Twin Lakes Western @ Tipton 3 Point Games Hamilton Heights @ Cass Culver @ Pioneer Knox @ Triton Frontier @ West Central Seeger @ South Vermillion Harrison @ Logansport Eastern @ Sheridan 5 Point Game North Judson @ LaVille
  15. Your guess is as good as mine. I've found that I can reduce my meds if I don't try to expect or find reason in many of the IHSAA's methods and madness.
  16. There problem is actually that everyone else around them got better, by comparison, this season. Frontier, West Central, and South Newton all lost to North Newton last season and are doing better than their last-season counterparts. North Newton still has to face North White and Tri-County, who they beat last year. NW is currently at 4-2 and I'd pick them over North Newton. North Newton may pick up a win over Tri-County, but compared to last season, that's not a pickup.
  17. Dang it, was trying to gain ground on Ballhawk, forgot to lock the door behind me, and look who wandered in.
  18. I'm hoping so. Harrison started the season a two-TD underdog to Decatur Central and is now a 4-point favorite. If they continue to work that, they can pick up their sectional which would, likely, pit them against Whiteland, who is a likely winner of their sectional and currently a 10-pt favorite over Harrison.
  19. End of 3Q. Harrison leads 41-0 over Tech.
  20. Harrison with 67 yard drive on the ground on opening drive. PAT is no good. 41-0 with 4:00 minutes left in 3Q.
  21. Harrison receives to start the 2nd half. Running clock in effect with Harrison leading 35-0 over Tech.
