  1. Harrison's game against Jeff will likely end up determining the NCC winner this year.
  2. Typically, I'm looking for that open bar at a wedding ... except for my daughter's upcoming one since I know how her friends drink and I'm on the hook. My wife's family is Southern Baptist which means the strongest thing to drink at our wedding was sweet tea with a lemon in it.
  3. Correct, Faith has been playing in the Midwest Conference. I suspect that, as you alluded to, they may have picked that conference for the size of the schools. North Newton used to be 2A, but is now 1A which I think is the size of the rest of the teams there. At least one other team in that conference, DeMotte Christian, doesn't currently field an 11-man team. The new charter in Lafayette is going to be using the building that was the old charter school that closed, New Community. That building was, at one time, a Payless grocery store before Payless opened a new store about 2 minutes away in an old Menard's.
  4. LCC's youth program has traditionally had kids from Faith Christian and St. James Lutheran since neither of those schools have football as well as some homeschool kids. Almost all of the Faith Christian kids depart the youth program by the end of the 6th grade season. Some return to Faith and head over to soccer and/or baseball as their high school sports and some head off to play football at the public schools, departing the Faith program. I would venture that very few, if any, Faith kids attend LCC for high school.
  5. They were mentioned in response to another person as to "what was wrong with LCC?" I merely expanded that idea that there are new private schools or other private schools in the area are not necessarily tied to there being something wrong with LCC. I don't necessarily think that Faith will never have football; especially if their school continues to grow. For a long time, they had sports, but weren't an IHSAA member ... although they played many of the IHSAA schools from the area. They eventually joined the IHSAA and are now part of the post-season "festivities." Incidentally, Faith has had folks who have played football in youth programs of other local schools that left Faith to continue playing football when they hit high school ... the vast majority with local public schools. Edit: Faith might decide, if they get larger, that football helps preserve some of their enrollment without a negative impact. When they first started out, they were small where fielding football would have been a huge undertaking. As they get closer to 300, the cost of football, as well as potnetial risk against resources, goes down; especially if it helps retain some students.
  6. My son plays for Harrison, so I'm taking them by 10.
  7. They don't do football. They do soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball. According to MaxPreps, last season varsity baseball team went 3-16-1. Boys basketball went 11-11. Boys soccer went 12-3-1. Girls basketball went 9-14. Girls soccer went 10-4-3. Softball went 11-9. Volleyball went 21-8.
  8. Nothing, but realize that most people that go to LCC are Catholic. There are a few non-Catholics, but for the most part, the kids come from Catholic families. There's another private school with a high school in the Lafayette area, Faith Christian. It recently joined the IHSAA, but has been around for a while. The vast majority of kids that attend it are non-Catholic. In both schools, there are a very small number that see those two schools as private options as opposed to seeing them as religious schools. Charter schools provide an alternative to traditional public school education and religious education ... in a sense, secular private education alternative. There are folks that want a private school environment, but without the religious component. I suspect that there may also be some private religious school students who want a private school education without the influence of a different religion. For example, there's St. James Lutheran in this area, but it only has K-8. There is no Lutheran high school. Just like there are Baptists that want a private education, but don't want a Catholic flavor ... and Catholics that want a private education, but may not want a Baptist flavor ... I could imagine that there could be some Lutherans that don't want that Baptist or Catholic flavor to their education. I will say though that I know of a couple of families that attended St. James that now attend LCC. And, again, there are some folks that just want a secular, private education. The last charter school that was in Lafayette was New Community and closed down in 2016. Indy-based, Paramount School of Excellence, is expected to move into the same location that was left when New Community closed. New Community was only K-8 and it's my understanding that the Paramount School of Excellence will also start out K-8, but I'm not sure if they plans to operate beyond that.
  9. Jeff and Harrison will square off this weekend, so we should get some additional stuff to talk about in a couple of days on that front.
  10. I think there's a new charter school getting ready to launch in the Lafayette area. The last one didn't last though and it didn't have anything akin to a sports program.
  11. Not sure about this one. At the start of the season, DC was a two-TD favorite over Harrison. Today it's about even.
  12. See, these are the kinds of things that make me feel old. I recall watching your youngest son play LCC in semi-state. Feels like a couple of seasons ago, but it was a DECADE. I mentioned the LCC kids that I first coached in the youth program now being on the varsity coaching staff. What I didn't mention, again making me feel really old, is one of those kids just welcomed his fourth kid into the world. It goes really fast.
  13. 2 Point Games Benton Central @ West Lafayette Hamilton Heights @ Twin Lakes Tipton @ Northwestern 3 Point Games Cass @ Western Rensselaer @ Lafayette Central Catholic West Central @ South Newton North White @ Caston Covington @ Park Heritage Fountain Central @ Seeger Harrison @ Lafayette Jeff Kankakee Valley @ Lowell
  14. Triton should crack the Top 10 based on this last week; at a minimum moving MC out and going in. The only spoiler I see, in the Coaches' Poll is Sheridan leapfrogging by nature of picking up their 700th program win. Yes, I know that winning 700th over the years has nothing to do with a 2022 poll, but realistically we know that there are things other than current production that tend to influence poll standings; especially earlier in the season.
  15. If B declined, ball would be on the the 40 with 1st and 10 for B ... although I'm not sure why B would decline unless, like you said, they didn't understand that he was getting the ball either way. Not specifically sure of placement in high school, but I believe that, if A's QB is less than 10 yards behind the LOS, then it is 10 yards from the previous spot and loss of down. If A is further back than 10 yards, then it's considered a spot foul and loss of down. One change that did happen in 2022 is that, if QB is outside of the tackles and clears the neutral zone with the throw, it doesn't matter if there is a receiver close by or not, it wouldn't be grounding.
  16. It sounds like there was some convincing or discovery that there was a receiver in the area and thus incomplete pass and turnover on downs at the original LOS. In essence the flag is waived off. I've seen this a couple of times in the past and both times it was because of a tackle-eligible situation caused by a shift of the end/receiver who then uncovered him. In both cases, the offensive team's coach had informed the ref that the tackle would be eligible. In one of the cases, the announcement was made to everyone and it was one of those "Oh, yeah, that's right, you told us" and the flag was waived off. In the other case, one ref had been informed and he didn't inform other folks. Again, it was one of those, "Hey, it's not an issue as that tackle that stayed in and blocked was actually eligible." Your described situation seems like the flag was waived off, but no indication of such was made to the stands.
  17. I kind of did it backwards as I was attending high school games before either of my two boys played sports; or were even born. Mainly it was to support the older brothers of the kids that I had started coaching in the youth program, but then later to support the boys/girls that I had coached along with finally having sons that enjoyed football for the game. Now I'm at the point where I'm sitting in the stands to watch my oldest son play as I haven't coached any of the kids on the team that he currently plays on; but I have unofficially coached their little brothers. Still have another two years for the oldest in high school and another six before his younger brother gets out of high school. At that point, the pipeline should be empty between my own and the kids that I've coached, but I have a feeling that I won't quite be gone from the stands. At the Harrison/LCC scrimmage, I was looking at the roster and looking at how many of the kids on the LCC team I had coached before I retired from coaching in their youth program. Worked out that there were only about 12 kids on that roster that I hadn't coached. What caught my attention though and hit me, with something that I had never thought about while coaching, is that four kids that I coached in the youth program at LCC are now on the varsity coaching staff there.
  18. Harrison scored on seam pass, but got called for holding. Nonetheless, Harrison picks up the score. 45-12 lead over Anderson with just under 4 mins left in 3Q.
  19. Harrison tacks on a field goal with 25 seconds left. Anderson takes knee. Harrison goes into the half up 38-12. Harrison will receive at start of 2nd half.
  20. After loss on first play, Harrison gets 50 yard QB keeper for TD. Leads Anderson 35-12. About 3 mins left in 2Q.
  21. Anderson receiver gets behind Harrison secondary for 74 yard TD. 2-point conversion fails. 28-12 with just under 5 mins in 2Q. Incidentally Anderson kicks kickoff out of bounds for best kickoff outcome so far. Harrison makes them rekick and Harrison recovers onside kick on Anderson 48.
