If LCC's OLBs and DE are performing really well, they stand a chance of keeping it under 40. If not, it'll be ugly. Against Harrison, WL was most successful with 1) hurry-up offense, 2) sweeps on motion, and 3) QB keepers up the middle on delayed pass plays or off of fake sweep. They struggled running between the tackles except for the aforementioned QB keepers. Mullis put up about 125 of WL 210 or so rushing yards in that game, so making sure that someone spies him on passes is a necessity. Similarly, when the back in motion crosses in front of him, someone needs to spy Mullis on the backside. On offense, Harrison had lots of success in the middle with the power back, but ended up switching from that in the second half ... not sure why. LCC may have better passing attack success than Harrison as I think Metzger probably has better read action than Henderson, although he's less mobile, physically, than Henderson. Big issue for LCC will be making sure not to self-destruct. Harrison had four turnovers in the second half alone against WL with two coming in the red zone and one coming on a kickoff. You can't give away four second half possessions against WL and expect to win, although even with those four giveaways, Harrison still kept it interesting into the 4th quarter. Even though WL didn't score after the fumbled kickoff after the WL TD, you could feel a momentum shift happen that Harrison never reversed. As for season record, I think LCC is looking at 7-2 or possibly 6-3 pending who they match up with in the HC crossover game. Still waiting to see how Tipton fares against Cass, but I think LCC. Saw LCC scrimmage against Harrison and was impressed with their ability to hang early on and counterpunch. Harrison's size and depth though wore them down as the game went on. Realize that I think Harrison is suiting up just under 90 players, so there's a definitive depth there. LCC has just under 55 on their roster, which is pretty good for an SF'd 2A team, but about 15 of those are freshmen.

This actually happened in the LCC-RCHS game a few years back. LCC was punting and an RCHS player blocked it, the LCC punter pucked it up and punted it again and it was blocked again BY THE SAME GUY WHO BLOCKED IT THE FIRST TIME. RCHS recovered it in the end zone for a TD.

I know Zionsville snuck down into 5A last cycle and Merrillville crept down this time, but sneaking half of 6A down into 5A is going to be noticeable.

Looks like Whiteland took the inside track in 5A South tonight knocking off DC 28-7.

Harrison with a pick. A few plays later they put up another TD. Harrison 38 - 6 over Marion with 1:28 left in 2Q. Harrison puts up 35 unanswered points in 17 minutes.

Marion jumps on 4th down when Harrison was looking at a FG attempt. Harrison then makes Marion pay more for the mistake by converting 4th and 5 and then scores on the following play. PAT is good. Harrison leads Marion 31 - 6 in 2Q.

Harrison with another passing TD. PAT good. Harrison leads Marion 17-7 with 4 seconds left in 1Q.

Harrison comes right back and picks up a 5-yard pass for a TD. PAT is good. 10-6 Harrison over Marion in 1Q.

Marion gets its first TD of the season. PAT is no good. Marion 6 -3 over Harrison in 1Q.

Marion messes up their punt giving Harrison the ball inside of the red zone, but a holding call forces Harrison to settle for a field goal. Harrison 3 - Marion 0 in 1Q.

You can see this with really good/great skills players, especially running backs who, when they score, typically make the line the first guys they celebrate with.

We'll get a preview of those two on Friday. Will also be able to gauge Harrison somewhat based on Whiteland and DC's performance against Plainfield.

Andy's a great guy! I used to coach against him when he and Steve were rebuilding the youth program there. Great attitude and really patient with the kids. Definitely in it for the right reasons. Always enjoyed talking and joking with him before and after our games. Wish him and the BC program continued success.

That's a shame as Allen has typically been a team that just talked by its play on the field, didn't shy away from any type of game/opponent, and didn't make excuses. My own boys and my players have always been taught to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Hopefully Allen's coach will get back to exhibiting that philosophy. And it's potentially more problematic when you see a team like South Oak Cliff, which played Duncanville, and hung with them in a 23-10 loss ... with the realization that Duncanville has about 3,800 students and SOC only has around 1,200. That's pretty good punching power for the equivalent of an Indiana 4A school; especially given that Duncanville is Top 20.

Receiving votes means that you have to have been ranked somewhere in the Top 10 by someone. I like the fact that South Newton is having success, but of that Top 10 1A group, I'd likely place them above/in place of South Decatur ... which I'm not even sure how South Decatur is in consideration ... and that's it. As such, I don't think it's too far off after just two games that they aren't ranked in Top 10 yet. If they knock off TPC, I think they definitely get Top 10 votes.

I also suspect that the incident of dog cr*p on your field goes down too with artificial turf. Had a game one time on a grass field, where after the first play from scrimmage, we all get back in defensive huddle, and all of a sudden the smell just hits us all. Everyone's checking their shoes and looking on the ground and all of a sudden one of the corners just jumps back out of the huddle and starts pointing at the right tackle's back. Apparently on the play, he'd tackled the back and rolled in it and it was smeared all over his back. Wasn't quite like the huddle scene in The Replacements, but there was a lot of gagging going on.
