  1. Nice win by Lawrence North. Man, Patrick Mallory has more than just a MIC contender there. I think they may be a contender for the whole schmear. Giants weren't competitive today. Won't make excuses. They were skunked by a better team this morning/afternoon.
  2. I live right by Decatur Central, and it got quite dicey. I know there were trees down around here and some people still don't have power.
  3. Lawrence North and Ben Davis postponed to 11:00 am on Saturday.
  4. Thank you for compiling this.
  5. Looks like running will be at a premium (or selecting the right side of the field to go towards during the 4th quarter). This might be a week to choose the end of the field. I remember a few years back that BD went to Carmel. There was a huge front that blew through exactly at halftime. The temperature dropped like 20 degrees and the wind changed directions completely. BD had chosen the wrong end zone for the new wind conditions.
  6. Ben Davis has not been 1-5 since the 1974 season. Carmel 35, North Central 14 (It's a heated rivalry game) Center Grove 42, Lawrence Central 14 Ben Davis 27, Lawrence North 21 (OT) (Homer til the end) Warren Central 38, Pike 7
  7. Guess you have more skin in the game than you want to say publicly. It's fun going round and round and round and round and round and round with you. You're good for the board. Keep pokin'.
  8. I suspect I know. But I'll keep it to myself.
  9. This is the longest psychoanalysis over a three-letter word response in the history of the GID. I don't care that people know I'm Jon Easter, but, since you want to call everyone by their real names, who are you?
  10. The gameplay was awful. You're right. Warren ended up being just a little better than Ben Davis. They made a play when it counted, but Ben Davis, by their own decisions, gave them the chance to do it. I haven't tried to give anyone an excuse for anything, and trust me...Temp...you didn't hurt my feelings. I just think it's hilarious how you just can't leave something like a three letter response and a period alone.
  11. Only you could turn a "Yep" into a dissertation on what you think about me or what I thought about the game.
  12. As if to prove my point.
  13. Dealing with you is like dealing with a fart in a whirlwind. No matter what I say, you'll keep it going. I am not making excuses for anything. Your inferences are doing a lot of work.
  14. That was the "not much else to say" part. LOL
  15. Yeah, Giants let one get away. Had every opportunity. Not much else to say.
  16. What a crazy comparison.
  17. I think the first-ever Ben Davis football game I attended was in 1990 when I was a sophomore. Ben Davis lost to Warren, 16-14. Since then, I've seen a lot of Warren/BD football. Among my favorites... 2000-Ben Davis 65, Warren Central 30 "Fast Break Football" as the Giants scored the first 35 only to have Warren score the next 30. The Giants closed it out and won 65-30. 2001-Ben Davis 56, Warren Central 21-Forever known as the "James Banks play" around here. Banks, who was punting for the Giants, sees a snap sail over his head. He goes back and picks the ball up at the 10ish yard line and then snakes his way through the Warren special teams. With the help of a Jon Polston block, he returns the ball for a touchdown. It's still probably the most scintillating play I've ever seen on a football field...period. 2002-Ben Davis 35, Warren Central 28 (OT)-The Giants stuff Warren on 4th down and defeat the Warriors in the Regional. One of the worst weather games I've ever seen. It was also the last game on Warren's grass field. It was basically grass soup. If I recall correctly, we had all different forms of precipitation that game. Rain, snow, sleet, graupel, etc. 2003-Warren 27, Ben Davis 26-Ben Davis misses an opportunity the next year in the Regional to hop on a fumble late, and Warren returns the favor in the '03 Regional coming back from a 26-14 4th quarter deficit. 2006-Warren 76, Ben Davis 7-Probably should have been 76-0 if not for Tandon Doss. The Giants jumped for a false start on their first three plays of the game. It was a harbinger of things to come. This game was like watching a continuous 2 1/2 hour car crash. Warren scored first. Ben Davis drove down and missed a field goal from 40ish yards. After that, it was 49-0 or something at the half. Tutsie ran up the score. But, it probably would have been that bad anyway. The Giants couldn't stop Evans or anyone else that night. 2008-Ben Davis 45, Warren 23-Satisfying upset victory for the Giants in the Regional. It broke a 9-game losing streak to the Warriors. 2009-Warren 23, Ben Davis 17 (OT)-Under the open roof at Lucas Oil, Warren wins in OT. 2010-Warren 36, Ben Davis 0-After the Giants had a slew of injuries in their previous game including to two of their QBs, I mentioned it here on the GID and got a stern talking to by Kevin Vanderbush after the Giants got shutout by Warren. I haven't mentioned a peep about injuries since. 2012-Ben Davis 6, Warren 3-In a brutal, physical, nasty game, the Giants hit two fourth-quarter field goals by Sterling Stedham. He kicked the game-winner with six seconds to go from 50 yards. The game had been played over two days due to weather. 2014-Ben Davis 40, Warren 36-One of the best football games you'll ever want to see. The 2014 Giants slugged it out with Warren and prevailed on a late TD. 2017-Ben Davis 36, Warren 29-Reese Taylor took control on the Giants final drive to run out the clock between the veteran Giants 2017 squad and the up and coming Warren squad that would go undefeated and win it all the next year. 2019-Ben Davis 27, Warren 24 (2OT)-The Giants get by Warren in double OT. Warren had it won in regulation on a FG block at the final play, but the Warriors celebrated too early and came on the field during a live ball. The resulting penalty gave the Giants a second chance at the FG on which Zack Fox converted. The Giants won in double OT. 2021-Warren 57, Ben Davis 56-This game was crazy, certifiably crazy. A rash of defensive injuries for both squads meant that neither could stop the other. Still the Giants built two substantial leads in the second half and blew them both. Mike Kirschner wins on his first trip back to the Westside.
  18. Warren and Ben Davis meet for the 100th time on Friday night. The Warriors lead the series 58-38-3. BD has won four of the last five, and the one they lost was the goofy 57-56 one on the Westside in 2021. Any favorite moments in this series? Also, I did some rough math, and I figured that Mike Kirschner has either been a player or coach in 40 of the games to date. Some guy who sounds a lot like me talked to him about the rivalry.
  19. I remember 2019. The Warriors came into Giants Stadium ranked #1, and the Giants were going the wrong way at 1-3 after being blown out twice and a 35-34 win over Pike. The Giants had a chance to line up and tie it with a last-second field goal. It was blocked, but Warren was flagged for coming onto the field during the live ball. BD lined up again, kicked the PAT and then won it in double OT. Not sure that will happen again. This Warren team is better. I think they're the best team in the state. I think it may be their year. I'd love it for Mike Kirschner. I can't really argue with your score prediction. Giants just aren't there yet. Would LOVE to be wrong. LN scores as many as they want vs. Tech NC gets thumped, agree. Center Grove, who is very solid, obviously, rolls. Carmel wins
  20. So, he was suspended and now he's back. Story over.
  21. Ben Davis @ Warren Central on Friday night! It's the 100th meeting between the two teams. Warren Central leads the series 58-38-3, but the Giants have won four of the last five and six of the last nine overall. The Giants and the Warriors played for the first time on September 23, 1937. It was the first modern football game for both teams, and the game was played at George Washington High School in Indianapolis. It's been a truly wonderful series to follow. Both current head coaches have a long history in the series. Mike Kirschner is a Warren Central graduate. He also is obviously the head coach there and was the head coach at Ben Davis from 2007 to 2017 and an assistant at BD from 2000 to when he took over as head coach. Russ Mann came to Warren Central with Jayson West. He stayed through West's tenure and coached with Mike Kirschner for one year at Warren before coming over to assist Jason Simmons for one year. He then took over as head coach at BD.
  22. Well, I wasn't expecting Joe Goss to start for Ben Davis, but I think he gave a good account of himself. The Giants made too many mistakes, and special teams have been a struggle this year. Missed PAT, Blocked PAT, Punting issues, Missed Opportunity to pick up a squib kick, gave up the opening kickoff for a TD return, etc. BD's secondary gave up two long TDs. You're not going to beat Center Grove doing that. Congratulations to Coach Moore on his 250th win at Center Grove. It had to be particularly sweet coming on the Westside in a place where Ben Davis and Center Grove have played some great games. Last night was not among them. I thought the offense looked pretty good considering the sophomore started at QB. The Giants moved the ball on the ground well, and the dink and dunk passing game worked. The Giants still fail to capitalize on a couple of red zone opportunities. The turnovers just have to stop. As far as the rest of the night...Warren was as advertised. Three safeties? GEEZ! That defense may be one of the best ever in high school sports. No joy on the Westside knowing that D is up next. Lawrence North may be the only challenge for Warren in the MIC this year unless the Giants can get themselves in gear quickly. Pike did what they should have done against Southport. I thought Carmel would probably lose to Trinity, but I don't know exactly what that means when comparing them to Indiana teams. Just feel like that program is in neutral right now. They're in need of a marquee victory if a program that's won that many titles can need a marquee win.
  23. Weird situation. Interested to hear more verified details!
