  1. It was a poor choice of words, my apologies. Yours is much better as always.
  2. Not necessarily for video coverage since the IHSAA claims a monopoly on streaming/broadcast video.
  3. If a wrong kid is named at the state game, the roster was wrong.
  4. Jerry is a very kind and generous person. I know he spent time over the years with my young broadcasters walking them through his notes and his research for games. Jerry's one of the few people who can still make me starstruck. He may have lost a step or two, but that's a step or two no one else had.
  5. Having seen the mercy rule applied multiple times since it was adopted, I think it works well. The closest I've ever seen to a comeback in 30+ years of watching high school football at Ben Davis was a Regional game at Warren in 2000. Ben Davis got out to a 35-0 lead. Warren scored 30 in a row. BD closed out with 30 of their own in a row. 65-30 was the final.
  6. I was hoping for a certain purple team on the Westside of Indy not named Brownsburg.
  7. I've given up trying to predict 6A this year. Team with the most points wins.
  8. Brownsburg took advantage of every mistake Ben Davis made. I thought the Giants showed some heart to rally, but the Bulldogs kept making plays to slam the door. Brownsburg is for real, but, like Temp said, every time you start to buy in....... BUT, I think things might be different this year.
  9. It was. Brownsburg shouldn't lose again if they play like that.
  10. Here we go. Giants vs. the Bulldogs on the Westside. Winner likely takes the Sectional and plays on! Does Ben Davis keep beating Brownsburg when it really counts, or can the Bulldogs shake off a string of underwhelming performances in the IHSAA State Tournament under John Hart and deliver a knockout blow to BD?
  11. Wait, weren't you just lamenting about how the program had taken a swan dive?
  12. Ben Davis was DREADFUL in the first half. DREADFUL. I mean, it was so bad that we were up in the press box thinking about running clocks. Blocked punt in first half began to turn the tide even though BD didn't score off it. Giants hit a couple of big plays and then it was like LC suddenly was back on their heels. Reminded me a lot of the BD/Center Grove game where suddenly it was a ball game and LC got caught flat footed. Was just an odd football game. BD was fortunate to win in the end, but I can think of a handful of games over the years where the Giants came back or found themselves in position to win. You don't give them back...especially with this BD team who, in the past, has had trouble closing (three losses this year, for ex).
  13. I mean, the best Sectional draw by far is Warren Central's. Ben Davis had those other three teams that are now in Warren's Sectional for the last few years, and, while Perry is much much improved, I'm not sure there's a team that can prevent a running clock in the second half in that Sectional vs. the Warriors. I'd say Center Grove is a close second in that department in 6A.
  14. I know coaches who would love to have a 10th game, but you're asking this of the same folks who allow Ben Davis to host Brownsburg in week one of the 6A tournament. That's a different kettle of fish, though.
  15. He's got a heck of an arm. He'll get that accuracy dialed in and will become a real problem for the next few years.
  16. That's correct. BD gambled for an INT on one play to Duff and missed. Duff returned punt to the BD 9, and the Giants failed to cover a sky kick correctly which led to a Russell return. That's 21 points. BD's defense gave up 107 yards passing and 124 yards (on 40 carries) rushing including the 58 yarder that Duff caught and ran in after the gamble.
  17. Ben Davis 49, North Central 7 Giants get back on track with hopefully a full and healthy offense. Center Grove 35, Cathedral 28 Trojans just win. I think they'll do it again. Carmel 28, Lawrence Central 7 (w/o Luter), Carmel 28, Lawrence Central 27 (with Luter) LC had Ben Davis. They were gutted at the end. Completely gutted. Don't know why Luter didn't play against BD. If they don't play him, no way that they beat that Carmel D. If they have him, should be a really good one. Christian Brothers 38, Warren 21 CB looks scary if you go to their Max Preps. I'll take them to beat WC on the long road trip.
  18. I watched it, and it's still hard to believe.
  19. Coach Simmons is on record that as long as he's head coach he'll continue wanting to play Center Grove and Carmel. He still considers them part of the MIC. He's been vocal.
  20. I don't see the MIC expanding until something happens with one of the other major conferences. I think they stick at six. Cathedral has always played all over the state and out of state. Heck, they even went to Tennessee a couple of years ago. Not a new schedule.
  21. I get that, but I also see several teams on the list Warren would beat. That said, I can't really argue with you on this.
  22. I second @temptationon LC. That football team is scary. Will Patterson has done a great job putting together a program from the ashes.
  23. Let me start with the last game first... Carmel is good, but they are not great. The Greyhounds gave up a ton of yards to the Giants, but BD couldn't get out of its own way with penalties and the continued inability to stop big plays. I don't think they are THAT much better than Warren. I think it's a two TD affair. Carmel 35-21 over Warren. Center Grove should beat Lawrence North, but I think that the Wildcats have discovered something. I think they hang close and maybe CG hits a couple of TD's in the 4th to pull away. Center Grove 42, LN 28 Pike should have won a couple of games this year, but they couldn't close the door on opponents. I think that they are the better of the "o-fers" in the conference. I think Mike Brevard celebrates his first win. Pike 35, NC 14 Finally, Ben Davis should win this game. I think, as you said @temptationthat the Giants have more playmakers. I think the Giants want that 12th MIC title a lot. I think they're disappointed in what happened in their three close losses and want to close out an undefeated MIC slate, albeit without Carmel and CG to Coach Simmons' chagrin, for the first time since 2017. All of that said, I don't think there's any way this isn't a one possession football game in the end. Maybe the team that has the ball last will win it. Will Patterson for Coach of the Year and for showing what you can do with a program like LC's. Makes you wonder how NC keeps missing the boat. Ben Davis 31, Lawrence Central 28
  24. My comment was tongue in cheek since essentially that's what you had with the old RCA dome turf and many of the "Astroturf" fields prior to Fieldturf.
