  1. I believe the Mid-State's been around since the 40's. 1942 per Almanac Sports. Decatur left & came back too. http://www.almanacsports.com/football/conference.php?conf_id=midstate
  2. I give Jeff credit for putting a MIC team on their schedule. We didn't think LC was going to struggle this mightily this year. Seemed like a nice win early in the year.
  3. Yeah, but it doesn't work that way. The middle school AD's formed the MIIC and have tiebreakers, but the MIC so far hasn't budged on this.
  4. In the MIC Invite (Sectional 7) the likely Sectional Championship game comes first as Warren Central (6-3) travels to the northside to face the North Central Panthers (6-3). Both teams are co-MIC Champions and WC beat NC, 28-7 the first time out. Will the "Fighting O'Sheas" defeat the defending State Champs and draw some retribution for the Regional loss last season? I call Warren in a slobberknocker, 14-7. That means everyone should congratulate North Central on winning the game.
  5. First conference championship in football EVER at North Central, and it's the first team out of the MIC "Big Four" to win a conference title, too. Very rarely have NC, LN, LC, or Pike (or THN and THS for that matter) flirted with the conference title. Even though it was shared with BD, Warren, and Carmel, it's significant. Really proud of Ben Davis. Wish they had not stubbed their toe against LC. I think the Giants are still playing their best football, and I'll be honest...I never saw them beating Warren, Carmel, and NC after the way they played against Avon and Center Grove. That's why they play the games, though. Jason Simmons should get some credit for keeping his team focused. When they're on, they'll be a tough out in the tournament.
  6. You railed against Tom Allen, Mike Kirschner and now Jason Simmons...so carry on.
  7. Perry joined the Mid-State because they didn't want to travel to Terre Haute and Bloomington. I don't believe Southport was interested in joining the Mid-State from my conversations with Perry Township folks. Brand new stadium facility. Would seem like someone would want to coach there if the current coach moves on. If he stays, I wish them luck. It's a proud program. Steve Purichia did a great job down there. You're spot on about the Mid-State though. It's a stellar conference.
  8. Congratulations to Coach Shanley. A really good guy who's done a great job.
  9. He's done a tremendous job turning around a program that had lost 23 of its previous 24 MIC games before his arrival. Here they are with a share of their first-ever school MIC Football Championship (and first ever conference championship in football according to Marion County historian Jim Pich). I'm happy with giving them a share though. If BD wins on Friday, the Giants will only be 5-4 but they will have beaten the other three teams (if Carmel wins) they will be tied with. Stupid crazy MIC this year.
  10. In the wacky, crazy MIC...BD could force a four-way MIC tie (and have beaten the other three teams they would tie with). No tiebreaker in the MIC though. Personally, I'm interested what's going to happen when the tournament starts. I have NO idea who's going to win 6A.
  11. I brought up Mike because he was the first person I heard say seed 6A 1-32 and play regardless of travel. That was the reason. You're the one, Temptation, who made it something more because you have to stir the pot. It's good for the board though. Stir stir stir.
  12. I'm just telling you what he said..and judging from what he said on Twitter now that he's at Mt. Vernon, he still feels that way.
  13. Still haven't seen DT respond to this fact that Carmel did not travel on a beautiful night for a critical MIC game at BD. --- As far as the BD facilities go, the turf, if I recall correctly, was paid for by the NFL the first time in a grant and by IU Health when it was pulled up and replaced. Giants Stadium had the home side/track reconstructed in 2006 as part of the renovation of the Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center. The northern locker room building was built at that time and built around the existing scoreboard/storage building. It includes garage bays for outdoor equipment and maintenance vehicles. This building also houses restrooms for the visiting side. The southern (home) locker room was built in 1998. The visitors side (OLD HOME SIDE) was constructed in circa 1988. The press box on that side was replaced two years ago as it had fallen into severe disrepair and had major roof problems. It is used by all media except for WBDG.
  14. Benton Central had to go to Evansville to play in the Semi-State last year in basketball.
  15. Mike Kirschner, when he was at Ben Davis, said seed 'em 1-32 and play 'em. If you have to travel, so be it.
