  1. Are you familiar with Ohio’s Harbin formula? To me, it seems to do as good a job of combining W-L record and strength of schedule as any. It’s explained here, for the uninitiated: http://www.redridersportsblog.com/2010/10/ohsaa-harbin-computer-pointsa-tutorial.html
  2. I’ll actually be at the Rockpile for this one. What are the chances it will be a competitive game?
  3. I’m getting this mental image of Russ Radtke and Kirk Kennedy back in the day, sitting down over a couple of beers and chatting about seeding their sectional. 🤣😂
  4. Looked like pretty much of a clean whiff to me.
  5. I don’t know. Maybe selection bias?
  6. I don’t know what you do for a living. But I think we can rule out “psychologist.” 😉🤣
  7. 😂 “Lane” = expertise.
  8. You should stay in your lane. Those people who have left officiating have done so not so much because of lack of tournament advancement, in itself. Rather, they have done so because they perceive the tournament advancement system to be unfair … and I agree with them. Changing the tournament format would also be the logical time to change the selection and advancement criteria.
  9. Not if you include strength of schedule components into the formula.
  10. Wouldn’t it be great if we could figure out a way to make those regular season games between two 3-3 teams really exciting and meaningful by raising the stakes for which they are played? Oh, wait …
  11. This is a worthwhile effort that, I hope, will drive a stake through the heart of this myth once and for all. I am in lockstep with @Footballking16’s thinking on this issue. But while he is no doubt right in his conclusion, I place more emphasis on what such a qualifying format would do for the regular season. By raising the stakes for many, many regular season games, the whole season becomes more competitive. The level of interest and the caliber of play would rise accordingly. Better for everyone.
  12. Let me clarify. The situation you initially reported did not have the phrase “on his own,” or “intentionally,” as is used in the case book. The complete play and ruling in the case book is as follows: “9.6.2 SITUATION C K1 free-kicks the ball toward the sideline. R1 runs to a sideline and intentionally steps out of bounds. While R1 is still out of bounds, he intentionally touches the ball as it nears the sideline. The ball is declared dead by the covering official. RULING: Illegal participation by R1. (4-3-1, 6-1-9)” If that accurately describes the play in question, then the correct ruling is illegal participation on R.
  13. Because the R player was out of bounds when he touched the ball, this is a free kick out of bounds. R can take the ball at the out of bounds spot + 5 yds., or take the ball 25 yds. from the spot of the kick, or move the spot of the kick back 5 yds. and re-kick.
  14. Just looking for people who might have had a clean look at it. The guy who told me it was actually good didn’t. The Hudl video is a sideline view, and not helpful.
  15. They also beat Elder, St. Ignatius, and 3 time defending Colorado state big school champ Cherry Creek. This is why I laugh when people argue against a playoff qualification system because “teams will load up with a cream puff schedule” to game the system. That’s one way to go, but certainly not the only one.
  16. @ragdoll, if you can find offensive holding in pass protection on this play, you’re a better official than I ever was.
  17. Anyone at the Southwood - Tippy Valley game? Questions are being raised regarding the field goal attempt at the end - ruled a miss by the official under the upright.
  18. To be honest, their next game against Archbishop Hoban might be their toughest game of the year. Would not be surprised to see them lose against the Div. 2 2020 champs and 2021 runners up, and current #1. I believe even with a loss, the Eagles would start the playoffs with a home game.
  19. Eagles go down to Cincy and pitch a shutout, avenging last season’s OT loss with a 6-0 win at Moeller.
  20. Because the naysayers will have the same response next year, too.
  21. I don’t suppose you could post that video. We all like extremely blatant missed foul calls.
  22. Yeah, that’s the reason there hasn’t been a rush by other states to follow the Indiana example … in the last 37 yrs.
  23. Highland scores again on 18 yd TD pass on 4th & 14. 19-0 over KV. 6:00 of the 2nd period.
  24. 78 yd. screen for TD. On ensuing kickoff, Highland steals the ball and runs it in for TD. 2:25 of the 1st, Highland 12 Kankakee Valley 0.
