  1. So true. I’ve seen some pretty hilarious substitution situations. Looked like the Keystone Cops … if anyone out there is old enough to remember that.
  2. St. X’s time is coming. They will meet the mighty Eagles of St. Edward in the tournament eventually, if the Bombers get that far.
  3. Free speech is free speech. But because you have the right to say something, doesn’t mean you should. There is such a thing as professionalism and decorum. A potty mouth is often a sign of a weak intellect, unable to muster effective arguments, and substituting with shock language instead. Good for Dakich for standing up for a high school coach. But the value of his message is lost in the furor over how he delivered it, defeating the purpose. He’s basically a self-indulgent jerk.
  4. In high school, that’s a TD. In NCAA and NFL, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble, unless the player recovering the fumble is the one who originally fumbled it, and the down counts.
  5. Both statements can be true. Whoever was responsible for making sure the Bears showed up with even an average NFL offensive line this year should be tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail.

He’s such a smarmy, self-righteous, “holier-then-thou” guy. We’ll see how he is if he has a couple of down years.
  7. I don’t know if the math allows that or not … and I’m guessing you don’t know that either. But if he could, why would he? He makes his living by supplying ratings and statistical analyses for college football and the NFL. Do you think he receives any remuneration for putting together the ratings for Indiana High School football? We should be thankful we have what no other state has for high school football. And the reason his algorithms don’t work for closed conferences is that no college conference or NFL division/conference is dumb enough to have a closed schedule. The only reason conferences have that in Indiana is ease of scheduling. Always playing the same schools in the same order reduces the potential for growth.
  8. This is the important point. Kelly is finding out that his OL is a work in progress. He needs a more mobile QB than Coan. Buchner will be the starter by the time I go to the Navy game on Nov. 6.
  9. I don’t agree. Remember, Coan is not “his” senior. He’s a grad transfer who has been in the program no longer than TB, and less time than Pyne.
  10. Why no love for Sagarin? It’s not his fault that some conferences are “closed.” Except for the closed conferences, for whom the algorithms he uses don’t work well, his system is amazingly accurate at predicting winners, especially in the playoffs. He doesn’t sit in an office with a pencil and a green eye shade figuring out which teams to disrespect this week. It’s all math once you develop the algorithms. You folks who do nothing but complain because the Sagarin rankings don’t jibe with what you think should be the order, let’s see you pick against Sagarin and do a better job over the long haul. Believe me, you won’t.
  11. Just remember, any foul that starts with “roughing,” is 15 yds. and an automatic 1st down: passer, kicker, holder, snapper.

    They’re not the only ones.
  13. Had I been observing this game, in the post-game review with the crew I definitely would have asked them if they talked about disqualification at the time and, if so, what their thought process was in coming to a decision. There are a lot of factors that go into that decision, as @Yuccaguypointed out, some of them pretty subtle. It’s not one to make lightly.
  14. Just look for the girl with the sun in her eyes.
  15. So, you’re going to provide the clip, but not clue me in on how to do it myself? Knowledge is power. 🤣😂
  16. OK, I can’t figure out how to copy the clip from Facebook to here. But it’s a very interesting play, so if anyone has any technical suggestions, I’m all ears.
  17. Comments on this play?
  18. @JustRulesknows a lot more about the NCAA code than I do, but I believe that is correct.
  19. 12 in the huddle is not a foul under the NF code.
  20. Saw this one last night. Pretend you’re the back judge. What do you do? 3rd and 4 from the A 38 yd. line. Both teams come to the line ready for the snap. B12 realized he shouldn’t be on the field, and sprints for the sideline. The snap is imminent. You’re the back judge, primarily responsible for counting the number of defensive players on every play. What do you do? Blow the whistle, kill the clock, throw a flag for illegal substitution, a 5 yd. dead ball foul. Let it go to see if B12 makes it off the field before the snap. If he doesn’t, throw a flag for illegal substitution, a 5 yd. live ball foul. Let it go to see if B12 makes it off the field before the snap. If he doesn’t, throw a flag for illegal participation, a 15 yd. live ball foul.
  21. It was worse. A lot worse.
  22. Best athlete on the field, as far as I could tell.
  23. Covington 14 South Newton 0 3:05 1st period
  24. Covington 6 South Newton 0 9:53 1st period.
  25. I’m sitting in the press box at South Newton right now.
