  1. Did you play? If so, think back to your last game. When it finished, what would you have done to get just one more week of practice with those guys, one more week of locker room shenanigans, one more game? It’s a shame you can’t see how important even this abbreviated season is to those kids.
  2. Unlikely. Someone’s got to lose. And whoever loses, their fans will say they didn’t go all out because they were saving themselves for the playoffs.
  3. The question here is whether the kick had ended. The kickers can never advance a recovered free kick. But if the kick had ended, it’s a fumble and can be advanced by either team. A kick ends when the ball is possessed or declared dead by rule. So if the receiving team player clearly had possession, then it’s a recovered fumble advanced for a TD.
  4. You cannot convince the “all in” people with common sense. I was on the field for over 500 varsity football games. Approximately 100 or so were playoff games. If you think there’s no difference in the level of competition or intensity, on the field, on the sidelines, and in the stands, between a regular season game, the first game of the sectional, and a sectional championship game, quite simply, you’re wrong. I can’t explain it any more simply than that.
  5. Hey, it happens. I once threw an incompletion to stop the clock as the half was winding down and we were on the 3 yd. line. Oops! It was 4th & 1. Of course, I was a freshman in high school at the time.
  6. So, I just sat down to a nice lunch, opened up the GID to see what’s new, and this is the first thing I see? Could you please go back to just talking about end zone cameras?
  7. I wonder if the IHSAA considers seeding the tourney as a first step on the “slippery slope” of a tournament qualification system. The inevitable consequence of seeding is those 1 vs. 8 or 1 vs. 7 opening matchups, which will get everyone very familiar with the Mercy Rule, if they aren’t already. Once we have a few years of first round massacres, the IHSAA will realize the futility of those 1st round matchups, and simply eliminate half the field, let everyone play a 10th regular season game, and the tournament will be 5 weeks instead of 6. I just hope it happens in my lifetime ... but they better get started pretty soon. 🤣
  8. I’ll be there Friday night. Love the Inferno.
  9. Trick plays are one of my favorite things about football. This thread is dedicated to gadget plays at all levels. If you can accompany your post with a video, that would be optimal. Otherwise, try to describe it in sufficient detail that we can picture it in our mind’s eye. Here’s my favorite ... from a national championship game, no less.
  10. So, this foul is on the defense, correct? It’s a running play, so the enforcement spot is the end of the run. 15 yd. penalty is 1 yd. short of the line to gain. 1st down and 1 to go.
  11. Been there a number of times over the years. Great place. Great fans. One of my favorites.
  12. They’d be crazy to say anything more publicly until they have made the full report to the IHSAA, and the IHSAA has finished whatever they’re going to do. Until that’s closed, mum should be the word.
  13. Ironically, the best team in Ohio right now is a Div. II school, Archbishop Hoban from Akron.
  14. If, as often happens, they announce to the officials/opposing team that they’re going to take a knee ... and then do something else, that’s not going to be allowed. That’s the one time an inadvertent whistle comes in handy. 😉 On the other hand, if they just line up in a formation, it’s “play football.”
  15. The reason is that ejection is such a severe penalty that it triggers automatic replay review in NCAA. We don’t have the ability to review those calls at the high school level. Note that disqualification is warranted under the NF rules if the targeting (or any personal foul) is deemed “flagrant.”
  16. This very play has been discussed with some frequency, and the answer depends on a little more information. Did the offense do anything other than line up in “victory formation” to give the defense the impression they were going to take a knee?
  17. In this week’s games, did you: See an unusual ruling? A question about a rule? Just want to vent (within reason)? This is the place to post it. Complain if you must, but be sure to supply sufficient detail that we can get a discussion going.
  18. His insurance probably won’t cover it. 😄😆
  19. There have been discussions about things like this in the past. The IHSAA’s position is that “props” are not allowed, and certainly not something like a sledgehammer. I seem to recall someone bringing something like that out for the mock coin toss once. Not allowed.
  20. I think the oddsmakers will take this one off the board.
  21. Your point is well taken. But to be scrupulously accurate, St. X and Elder couldn’t both be 2019 champs, since they play in the same division.
  22. I recall a season at Notre Dame when we played back to back home games, first USC and then Navy. Saw a bedsheet hanging out of a dorm window that said: “Burst the Trojans and Bring on the Seamen!” True story.
