  1. Not like this wasn’t predictable.
  2. This is the rule in the 49 states that play under NFHS rules … including Indiana.
  3. At what point in the game did this occur? I’ll look at the Hudl video. Might be a good play to use for teaching purposes.
  4. I’ve had a few of these … and it is always a chore to explain to the defensive coach why this is not a fumble, but an incomplete forward pass, even though the ball went backward. If the passer’s arm is moving forward prior to the ball being released, and because of contact by the defense he is spun so that the ball actually comes out backward, it’s still a forward pass. Arm direction is the determining factor. It’s a very unusual play. Sounds like the crew wasn’t sure what they had. But they talked it over and got it right.
  5. Uhhhh… We did hold off on ordering that statue, right?
  6. I will be in the house tonight. My first time at North Posey.
  7. Urban Meyer was actually the wide receivers coach at Notre Dame from 1996-2000.
  8. If both are looking for the ball, tangled feet is not a foul.
  9. It is more likely that I’ll set foot on the moon someday than Notre Dame even entertaining the thought for a fleeting second.
  10. Please destroy all copies of this picture, and never bring it up again.
  11. There must be contact in order to call DPI. Face guarding with contact = DPI.
  12. It’s very hard to provide what coaches, fans, etc., call “consistency,” in a play where, literally, every play is unique. And there is general agreement that PI is among the hardest calls to officiate, at every level. There are 6 categories of DPI, and we are taught that if you can’t fit the action into one of these 6 categories, keep the flag in your pocket: Playing through the back. Hook and turn. Playing the man instead of the ball. Grabbing the arm. The cutoff or arm bar. Early contact. Speaking specifically of “tangled feet,” the philosophy is well defined. If the players are running even with one another and they tangle feet, no foul. If the defender is in the trail position and they tangle feet, it is only a foul for DPI if the receiver is looking for the ball and the defender isn’t. If neither is looking for the ball, it’s never a foul.
  13. Unnecessary. I used plain English.
  14. This assumes that the only reason for getting a degree is to help in getting a job. Thus, the only measure of the worth of the degree is economic. Not true for everyone.
  15. I will be at North Posey Friday for their game vs. Heritage Hills. My first time in Poseyville. Looking forward to it.
  16. Absolutely. Catch rule is the same at all levels, except that the NFL requires both feet inbounds.
  17. They’re like a Triple A shortstop who wants to make the show. They make great plays. But then an easy ground ball goes right between their legs. You don’t see those guys in the big leagues.
  18. Sorry, but regardless of how well they are playing today, Marcus Freeman is on thin ice with me. Every year they have at least one pathetic effort. It’s his job to make sure that doesn’t happen. In 3 years he’s got losses to Northern Illinois, Louisville, Marshall, and a Stanford team that was a laughingstock in a laughingstock conference. None of those teams should EVER beat Notre Dame. It’s his responsibility to make sure that the effort is there, and he hasn’t done it consistently enough for me. Not by a long shot.
  19. Yes, the ball is dead when K possesses it. I couldn’t see the PF. I’m sitting in a palapa on the beach in the Dominican Republic right now, and the glare of the sun off the Caribbean makes it hard to make out much detail. Truth. 😂🦜🌴🧉
  20. It isn’t the same one, but similar. Note that the kicking team can never advance a recovered free kick.
  21. Obviously, I have no idea what happened. But that AD has some serious stones, that’s for sure.
  22. Do we count schools that no longer exist? If so, I need to go beyond Harrell’s site.
  23. Team K players are prohibited from blocking imtil the ball has gone past R’s free kick line (10 yds) and been grounded. Those 2 requirements can be satisfied in any order. K is also free to make contact if R initiates contact first on K’s side of R’s free kick line, or if R touches the kick. The foul is for an illegal block. The penalty is 10 yds., though, not 15, for K initiating contact early. However, if the contact could also be considered targeting or a blindside block, both are 15 yd. penalties. Could this possibly be the play you’re talking about? https://url.us.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/69CACkRDl5svXDGI2fOCGvV2K?domain=hudl.com
  24. I’m going to have to do this. After 47 yrs. of officiating, I’ll bet I can get that number up pretty high.
