  1. Any sport. And use “witnessed” as liberally as possible. In person, a participant, on TV, listening to the radio, streaming, whatever. It just has to be something that left an indelible impression on you. I’ll be happy to start. I watched the 1973 Belmont Stakes only because Secretariat was trying for the Triple Crown. I know nothing about horse racing, and don’t even like horses. But when I saw Secretariat, well, I know an athlete when I see one … even if it has 4 legs instead of 2. What that horse did in that 2-1/2 minutes was the most extraordinary athletic performance I ever saw. It was the equivalent of Jim Brown rushing for 400 yds., or Babe Ruth hitting 6 homers in a game. It was spellbinding to watch. And I can still see that Big Red pile of muscle basically lapping the field. Gave me chills, knowing I was watching something that was absolutely unique.
  2. I would love to know what the win percentage is for teams that have a special teams score.
  3. Much better offense passing the ball.
  4. This exact play occurred in the closing moments of a playoff game several years ago. The crew got it right … and were regularly downvoted by the losing coach for years afterward as a result. Because the foul occurred after the down had ended, and they were short of the line to gain after 4th down, the ball goes over. The 15 yd. penalty against the defense is then enforced from the dead ball spot. 1st & 10 after enforcement for Team B.
  5. I was there. Total domination in every facet of the game.
  6. And Crown Point scores after a 62 yd. pass play on the first play after the kickoff. Crown Point 12 - Merrillville 7 3:34 of the first.
  7. Merrillville answers immediately with a quick drive of several big plays. Merrillville 7 - Crown Point 6 4:51 of the first.
  8. Crown Point takes the opening kickoff and drives the length of the field, punching it in on 4th and goal from the 2. Kick was blocked. Crown Point 6 - Merrillville 0 7:06 of the first.
  9. Thanks. That makes it a lot easier. But I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. This weekend.
  10. “Connor Stalions is not the boogeyman. He’s the one you send to steal the signals of the @#$&*% boogeyman.” NSFW
  11. I have access to East Central’s Hudl video. When in the game did this fumble occur?
  12. Tell me about the “blown fumble call.” I’ll hunt down the video. Might be useful for training purposes.
  13. It’s noteworthy that the study is based on self reports of concussions, not medically-diagnosed concussions.
  14. I once fired a clock operator at halftime … of a playoff game … found out it was a nun.
  15. Many years ago I was working a game at North Judson. As I gave the ready for play signal, a bat landed on the ground about 5 yds. in front of me. Sure enough, they snapped the ball and the QB rolled toward me … and the bat. I kept one eye on the QB and one eye on the bat as the play ran. Somehow, the bat escaped being trampled and flew away before the next play. At that time, the local public TV station, WYIN, broadcast a game each week on tape delay. I was able to get home in time to watch the replay, and the bat showed up great. And no, I did not throw a flag for an “illegal bat.”
  16. Most of the posts here are fairly serious. But believe it or not, lots of funny stuff happens in officiating. This topic is for folks to relate funny stories about officiating. If you’re an official, you can relate something that happened in game. Fans, coaches, players, media, etc., can chime in with something humorous they saw regarding the officials. Here’s the one place we can lighten up about official’s and officiating.
  17. It was funny watching him pound the table. A little bit of “Old Brian” showing through?
  18. I certainly hope I was wrong about Williams in my pre-draft assessment. And to date, he seems to be doing everything right, both on the field and in the locker room. Let’s not commission the statue just yet, though.
  19. No rest for the weary. After opening against a traditional Ohio power and then taking on nationally ranked #10, the Eagles host Boyle County, the #1 team in KY this Saturday.
  20. I think that depends. If the coach calls a timeout to talk to the Referee and says “Look at this play, you guys were wrong,” just tell him “I can’t look at that, put it away.” Problem solved. Now, if it goes beyond that, then you start thinking about using the flag. But certainly not as a first resort. Calling an unsportsmanlike conduct foul on a coach has significant repercussions. Not to be done lightly.
  21. Or on the try, at the option of the offended team.
  22. What level of play? If it’s played under high school rules, this is an unsportsmanlike conduct foul against A. Because USC is always enforced as if it were a dead ball foul, the TD counts. The defense gets to choose whether the 15 yd. penalty is assessed on the try, or the subsequent kickoff.
  23. Some of you may have known James, a B1G replay official who had a long and distinguished career officiating high school football in Indiana. A great friend and a mentor to many, many officials. He passed away unexpectedly yesterday just before the Michigan game he was supposed to work. Fair winds and following seas, James.

  24. The mighty, mighty St. Edward Eagles take down highly ranked St. Joseph Prep of Philadelphia, 35-21.
