Indy has 15 mega schools. Seven of those are going to have "up" seasons. Three of them are going to have "great" seasons. An "up" year + mega enrollment = good luck to the rest of the state.

You've got a point there. Now we just need Penn to step up this year and take state............or at least make a good impression at Lucas. Indy has dominated 6A since it's inception with the exception of Penn's near win over Center Grove in 2015. Temp pisses me off when he says "show me." But he's right.

Both of your comments in bold are speculation. I think there are 10-20 programs that could claim "best coaching in state." There's just no way to tell for sure. I agree that Crown Point is capable of beating anyone in the north. But I'd bet a large amount of money that they wouldn't "roll" Carroll, Snider, or Penn.

It's good to see a passionate fan base out of the northwest. Keep it up. But I don't recall anyone comparing Crown Point to Merrillville. Coaching can take a program to a whole new level and CP is seeing that this year. I don't think you can blame anyone for thinking HSE, Carmel, Carroll, or Penn are capable of taking Crown Point down. Those are all good football programs. Crown Point will have their opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong. But right now everything is speculation. We're all looking forward to a very exciting 6A North this year.

I agree that Crown Point is having one heck of a season, but the Indy bias is just and fair until a northern team proves otherwise. I'm pulling for Carroll, Penn, or Crown Point to prove the "Indy bias" wrong this year.

You could very well be correct. For the size of the school and the community, the crowd they've brought to the last few Snider games have been less than impressive. But I've noticed that across the board and the internet may have something to do with that. I remember back when Snider and Penn would bring 2500 fans to a game two hours away. That's just not the case anymore. I always felt Merrillville had a loyal fan base who travels well. If Merrillville were to travel to Snider or North Side this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought 1500 plus.

Snider waxed Homestead and Dwenger whereas North Side did not. That's probably the reason for Snider's higher Sagarin rating. The Legends take their game to a whole new level when playing Snider. I would argue that Snider is North Side's number one rival being bordering neighborhoods. No matter the records, when these two play, either Snider puts their best foot forward or they lose.............that simple.

Eastside is a thorn in Luers side, so getting out of sectionals will be a chore. But I'm looking forward to seeing how the Knights do against schools their size for a change.

I still wanna say Carroll and Crown point are a step behind the Indy schools. We'll find out when Hamilton Southeastern rolls in at semi-state. We already know Penn and Jefferson are a step behind............both multi touchdown victims to Cathedral. Although Penn was scary close for three quarters.

No one up north really knew who Hamilton Southeastern was until 2005. Are we seeing the same thing with Franklin? Whiteland?

In Luers case, the value is playing larger schools that get them battle tested for the tournament. Take this years team for instance. They sit at 4-5 but are probably one of the best 5 teams in 2a.

Why would that be a problem if every team you played was a class or several above you?

Can't punish Bishop Luers with a two win season when three of the teams they play are in 6A, three are in 5A, two are in 4A, and one is 3A. If you want to go by win/loss records, then the only wins that count are the ones in your class or above. In this example, Luers would be 2-0.

Glimmer of hope with Carroll. We won't know what they are really made of until they play out of town opponents. They do appear to be better than last year though.

They subbed seven freshmen on defense. I mean, it sounds legit. Not sure how else Merrillville gets wasted by Chesterton.

Snider opened up a 20-6 lead. Both teams missed an extra point up until that point. North Side scored two more touchdowns after that and missed on both conversions. Final score 20-18. Could have beaten Snider? Sure. Should have beaten Snider? No. You could say the game was pretty even and came down to extra points. We'll find out who the real winner is if Snider can get by Dwenger. But I'm not going to hold my breath. Dwenger has good coaching capable of making the adjustments they need to close the 28-0 gap. And not many have more heart than a Catholic kid playing football. This sectional is a crapshoot.
