  1. Nothing wrong with getting a little excited about your team. What fun would it be if you knew from week one that you didn't have a chance at winning the state title?
  2. Spoiled here in the Summit City. Every game is broadcasted on Summitcitysports.com. Rare freeze up issues, good quality, and instant replay.
  3. Valpo appears to be the real deal this year. Game against Merrillville in Week 7 will be huge.
  4. 1. Dwenger - Luers fans wont like this, but there seems to be something special about this Saints team. We'll find out this Friday against Homestead whether or not Dwenger's hype is legit. 2. Luers - Just ran the table on a couple of good 6A programs in Homestead and Carroll. We all knew Luers would be good, but this good? The Knights left unfinished business on the field last year and are on a mission. They better not get ahead of themselves though, or they'll finish the regular season 0-2. 3. Homestead - How good are the Spartans? Their high octane offense will be tested this Friday. Dwenger will be hungry after letting two SAC titles slip away from them at the hands of Homestead the past two seasons. If Homestead pulls this one off, then I'm a believer. 4. Carroll - Their romp over North Side was an eye opener. The attitude of this team looks a bit different than it did in Week 1 against Luers. They are starting to look like the team everyone thought they would be in the preseason. 5. Snider - Probably the best team the SAC has ever seen sitting in the #5 position. That speaks volumes for the quality of football being played in Fort Wayne this year. Still potential for this team, but lot's of work to be done to be considered a 5A north favorite along side Dwenger and Valpo. 6. North Side - Still need to go with the Legends in this spot. Starting the season against Snider, Dwenger, and Carroll is no easy task. Especially when some key players were out for two of those games. Hopefully North Side gets better as the season progresses unlike last year when they got worse. 7. Concordia - Another team with a tough start to the season playing the likes of Snider and Homestead. They show promise, and in my opinion, is probably the best of the rest. 8. South Side - This position only makes sense since they beat Northrop by two scores. 9. Northrop - Northrop isn't a bad team, they just reside in the SAC. I can't say they are a very good 6A team though. 10. Wayne- Again, not a bad team. I don't think I've ever seen the SAC this strong from top to bottom. There are no bad teams in the SAC. Each team is in the top half of their respective class.
  5. What? You didn't think Homestead was the 4th best team in the state last week?
  6. Everyone knew Luers would be good, not this good though.
  7. Let's stop pretending that what they've done the first three weeks isn't impressive. Congrats the the Pirates on a fine start to the season.
  8. Add Luers in 2A to that list. The Knights are Top 20 regardless of class. That speaks volumes for a 2A school. Anyone who didn't see the Mercy Rule come into play by halftime isn't paying much attention.
  9. Luers is to 2A what Center Grove and Cathedral are to 6A and 5A.
  10. Luers is the better team, but Homestead's 6a depth is just wearing them down. Saw this coming when the Knights were up 35-21 at the half.
  11. The growth of Indianapolis is a direct result of an imbalance in state funding going to Central Indiana. It's been that way for years. It's part of the reason why South Bend's metro area remains stagnant with little growth. Things are done differently in Ohio, where all areas of the state are important.
  12. I couldn't have said it better myself regarding each game. Except........................"I just have this strange feeling in my gut the Cadets pull it out." Snider's a better football team than the scores of the first two games indicated. Concordia won't have much of a chance in this one if Snider puts there best foot forward.
  13. And they've had two good victories over pretty good teams, so it's not off the wall to believe they could be a highly ranked team. There's just some doubt after last years throttling by Chatard and Westfield. This a new year though.
  14. Tread lightly. Feelings are easily hurt on the GID.
  15. I understand and respect what you are saying, but I think a poll should be in the moment, not what a team did the year before. That being said, Homestead hasn't done anything to warrant losing their spot at the top, but the Saints just look awfully darn good. Two lines of thought here. It's all good.
  16. Gone are the days of playing Penn and Lafayette Jeff. No more Chatard or Cathedral. Carmel and Cincy LaSalle a thing of the past. Ohio Hartely and Leo no more. The SAC is playing inside a bubble and interest in this conference from other areas of the state seems to be fading. So this is a new thread to talk about some Fort Wayne football, arguably the best in the state pound for pound. Takes from last Friday in poll format: 1. Dwenger - I've said it before, I'll say it again. Defense wins championships. Dwenger plays defense as good as anyone in the state. Add to that some pretty good players on offense, and the Saints are your top team in the SAC after two weeks. 2. Homestead - I keep waiting for the Spartans to fall back to mediocrity, but they seem to have other plans. Certainly they can't 3-peat? They haven't gotten into the meat of their schedule yet, but so far they look as good as any. Luers will be their first major test this Friday night. 3. Bishop Luers - How bout them Knights! The little 2A school (save it for another thread) climbs into the top three in a conference loaded with 5 & 6A programs. They're back and without a morsel of a doubt the team to beat in 2A. Huge test against Homestead on Friday. 4. Carroll - Good bounce back win for the Chargers. They were pretty much written off after losing to a 2A program, but bounced back nicely against a pretty good Snider team. Defense actually looked pretty decent for a change. 5. Snider - Still a long way to go, but capable of beating any team north of Westfield. 6. North Side - The Redskins, I mean Legends, could be very good by seasons end. Actually they are pretty good now, they just need to get healthy. A record of 7-2 isn't completely out of question for this team. 7. Wayne - They've had the misfortune of opening against Dwenger and Luers. Although neither game was very close, it doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad team. What happened to them the first two weeks could have happened to 90% of teams statewide. 8. Concordia - Not sure what happened against Homestead after handling what appears to be a decent South Side team. Maybe the Spartans are just that good. They may have gotten waxed on Friday night, but I'm not ruling them out of a 3A run just yet. 9. South Side - Was anyone expecting them to beat Northrop after the Bruins gave Homestead all they could handle for a half? Nope. Kudos to the Archers, maybe they are turning the corner. 10. Northrop - Head scratcher.
  17. Six hours? Who's driving that thing? Huge thumbs up for Carroll. They beat a pretty good football team.
  18. Center Grove by 21. Indianapolis is probably playing at a higher level than any area that Kentucky or Michigan has to offer.
  19. Assume? I don't think my assessment of Dwenger is an assumption based on their performances over the past two weeks. Being that we're only two weeks in, I'll back off just a tad. Homestead is to Dwenger as Carroll is to Snider. Victorious, but not necessarily better.
  20. Dwenger looks like the best team in the SAC at this point. Homestead, Luers, Carroll, and Snider are a crapshoot after the Saints.
